Tenkai Matsumoto
I wish I could find a place where I could research all those fun special skills that people use for spies and agents and stuff, so I can adapt things that would work for Tenkai.
Then I could write posts like how Michael Westen explains stuff in Burn Notice.
What? You're going to make Tenkai into a ninja now? Though historically, that would be accurate with the samurai being ninjas, too, and all. Cause seriously...your character can use a change in looks.
What? D: I'm not changing how Tenkai looks. And he isn't a ninja.
However, he does know about ninjutsu and certain aspects of stealth. He uses that plenty of times. You were in the Dead Forest, remember?
That, and when Tenkai went sneaking aroung in 09, he modified his outfit slightly so he'd be able to sneak about. I once imagined what Tenkai would look like in a more MGS-based sneaking suit, like something he'd wear working for the Vatican. But I don't know.
Either way, the whole samurai-monk-ninja thing has been in Japan for a lot of times. Ninja in Japan were samurai, anyway. They lived in autonomous regions that they owned and pledged loyalty to daimyo. It's like how the Iga ninja served the Tokugawa shogunate through Hattori Hanzo, or how (supposedly) Kotaro Fuuma served the Hojo clan.
The Iga province had a lot of that sort of connection, between the Iga ninja, the Yagyu clan (samurai), and the Hozoin temple (monks). They seem to pop up everywhere in Japanese culture.
