"It's a lot like making regular cookies," Toby said with a grin. He wouldn't admit it, but he was excited to make cookies with his boys. He still loved firsts.

There were a hell of a lot of supplies to get out, considering how many cookies were being made in how many different types. Plain old sugar, cranberry-and-white-chocolate macadamia, and molasses for all six of them.

Toby had invited Michael to possess him this time, considering that he already knew how to make them, though he did have a cook book. Michael had been delighted to be able to stick their hands in the dough to mix it, and had even laughed.

"What is this?" Michael asked.

"White chocolate," Dari replied.

"Chocolate?"

"Well, not really. It doesn't have any cocoa in it."

"Then how is it chocolate?"

"Hm... well. It had cocoa butter. It probably wouldn't sell as well as 'white congealed oils.'"

Kevin was more impressed with the bin of cookie cutters provided. He'd taken each of them out and studied them while Maia'd put the sugar cookie dough in the fridge to chill. "Look, Michael, there's a ghost!" He held it up for Michael-Toby to see. "And a pumpkin, and a wolf--and a cat?" He glanced at Maia then. "You brought Halloween ones!" He accused.

"There's Christmas, too," Maia assured him. She was grinning. She looked over towards Toby. "Michael, try it. You'll like it. It's different."

Michael looked up and smiled. Sure. A ghost. If they all wore sheets on their heads.

"No, it's all of them!" Toby defended, "We just brought them all. Christmas ones can get boring sometimes. Halloween is just on top." It was the second-to-last holiday, after all, and they hadn't made cut cookies for Thanksgiving.

"Try what?" Michael asked. The cookie cutter? Oh, no, the 'chocolate.' Toby reached out, took one, and popped it into his mouth. Michael finished up the chewing and his face screwed up. My, that was sweet. Toby laughed.

"Good, right?" Toby asked.

"Interesting, at the very least."

Kevin dug around in the bin, pulling out a snowman shaped cookie cutter. "Oh, there they are," he said. He pulled out a few others; a Santa, a stocking, a Christmas tree and a--heart? The kelpie immediately pushed that one aside, making a face.

"They're better in the cookies," Maia assured Michael with a smile. "When the dough's finished chilling, will you help us cut them out?" She asked.

Cody'd brought out a bag of chocolate chips, maybe from the room he was sharing with Dari. The bag was open, and he was taking out a few at a time and eating them.

Michael nodded. "Certainly. I've never done so before, not even while alive."

"Really?" Toby asked, then remembered: "You were pretty wealthy."

"Not comparatively, but yes. My family was, anyway."

Dari turned and stole a few of Cody's chocolate chips.

"We'll decorate them after," Toby said, "How ever you want. It's pretty fun."

Did the wealthy not partake in cookie making? Huh. "I've never made them either," Maia said.

Cody grinned and offered Dari a handful before he offered Toby the bag. "I thought Michael might like these better," he said. "Try them, Michael. I brought mom's recipe, I bet you'd like chocolate chip cookies."

Kevin took a few white chocolate chips before wrinkling his nose. "Blegh. These don't taste like chocolate."

Dari laughed a bit at Kevin and offered him a few chocolate chips to be rid of the taste. As a marshmallow connoisseur himself he didn't mind the over-sweetness of white chocolate. Besides, the cranberries and nuts evened the flavor out.

Michael turned and took one arm, stealing a few chips and popping them into his mouth. He smiled. "Chocolate was very different when I was alive."

Kevin gratefully took the chocolate chips, eating them and thoroughly enjoying them. Ah, there! That was chocolate. "Thanks, Dari," he said.

"Really?" Asked Cody, curiously. It was hard to imagine chocolate as something different. He couldn't picture a world without chocolate chip cookies! "What was it like?"

Dari nodded at the thanks.

Michael meanwhile addressed Kevin, but didn't look to him first. Toby still had most of the control, so Toy obligingly turned his head toward the boy.

"It was a drink," the ghost said in his own voice, "It was dark and bitter."

"Like dark chocolate," Dari said, "Like very, very dark, drinkable dark chocolate."

Both Cody and Kevin wrinkled their noses. Chocolate as just a drink?! No chocolate bars? No..:anything? "So...no one liked it?" Kevin guessed.

"Blegh. When was milk chocolate invented, anyway?" Cody asked, shaking his head. Poor Michael.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 04, 2017 6:32 pm

"On the contrary, people loved it. It was special, exotic, only for the wealthy," Michael said with a smile. Of course he understood why modern humanity wouldn't be too thrilled with chocolate in its original for with all they had! "Oh, it wasn't until well after I died."

"The eighteen-seventies," Dari said, and in moments was able to clarify: "Eighteen-seventy-five or so."

Michael nodded. "Ah. Long after my death."

"Gross.." Kevin shook his head. He hadn't been fond of the special dark chocolate Maia had gotten him to try. But that, as a drink? It sounded terrible! He would've paid to not have to drink it! "I'm glad you get to have real chocolate now, Michael."

"We're going to be making fudge at some point," Maia said, thoughtfully. "Michael, you should help." The marshmallows might tempt him.

"Are you going to use marshmallow cream?" Cody asked. "Toby told me not to let you eat that, you know."
PostPosted: Sat Feb 04, 2017 7:00 pm

Michael was still smiling. He only had "real chocolate" in the capacity that he was now able to possess people kind enough to eat it for him. Besides, if you wanted to get technically, what he'd grown up with was proper chocolate. This was a milky abomination, comparatively.

"Fudge is great," Dari piped up, "It's a whole different texture. I think you'd like it. It's very rich."

"I don't have to be a part of everything, you know," Michael said, but still his smile remained.

"You're family," Toby said, taking his head back to begin cleaning up, "...he said to himself." Being possessed was definitely unusual.

"We want you to be," Maia said, then, and gave Michael a smile. He was family! "Besides, it's Kevin's first time making fudge, too."

Kevin looked up at that. "Do I get to lick the spoon?" He asked, eagerly.

The selkie chuckled. "Of course," she said. "Toby, do you think it's ready to roll out?"
