Well its a new type of game... think of it this way...
trying to play ps3 games on a ps2 >.> is basically what your wanting ( Only with DS )

But you have the option to turn off the 3D on the 3DS. So if you could do that, why couldn't you play it in 2D on the regular DS? It's possible, it's just Nintendo's little way of getting people to spend $250 on a 3DS.

Because it's an entirely different system, not a better DS. Like the Gameboy Color to the original Gameboy. It has better graphics, and some of the games, including Ocarina of Time, use motion controls. The other DS does not have any of that type of capability. The 3DS is generally a more powerful system.
