*Dusk gave way to night and soon ascended to dawn. Spellbound was up and grazing on the dew-covered grass, far from the others. He was nervous of the white mare and her daughter, glancing hesitantly towards the herd every so often. Sepsis slowly woke up, Moonstruck close by. The gray mare arising to her feet, stretching her wings and looking around as the young filly sprang up, too.

In the distance the gray mare could see the figure of the striped, aging, colt. She slowly walked toward him, the soft morning growing softer and gentler as one single large, luminous cloud rolled in, bulging and billowing with thunder and rain. The drops fell light but fast, landing gently on the sleek summer coats of the horses. The island felt as an empty, softly lit alley would in the cobble stone-lined english countryside in a small market in the valley while old gray and brown drafters pulled carts and wagons of brew and summer harvest. Children pushed rings with sticks in their white stockings and fresh britches, their softly colored dress and blouse. The air was crisp, the rain being cool. Sepsis sighed relief, though the days were never very hot nor sticky.*

Storm and Jewel were playing tag chaseing each other, biting playfully, rearing. They were having fun. Jewel ears pinned back and bolted after Storm who was getting away. She caught up to him and bit his flank making his squeal, and Jewel stopped dead in her tracks, lifted her nose to the air, and shot up on her hind legs, one ear pricking forward the other one back. The filly had grown bigger, and her coat was becoming dark grey . Her mane was longer and so was her tail, he coat gleaming with health. She was very stunning.

Diamond watched her foals from the distance where she layed down in the cool mud. Even as it rained she stayed there. She was tired, and decided to get some sleep. First she rolled in the mud before resting her head in it, and shifting off into a sleep.

*Spellbound let out a long, hot snort that ended in an abrupt stop. He glared at the white mare and her silly yearlings, turning away to graze with boredom, keeping an occasional eye on the silly horses.*

(Time skip, 1 month)

*As spring drew to a close, the days grew longer and the nights grew louder. A symphony of crickets, owls and the surfacing dolphins that shored here at the draw of spring became apparent, the almost mechanical whine of the cicadas signaling the fall of dusk, and following until the sun subsided beneath the ocean's horizon. Firelfies danced in the gentle midnight breezes, more abundant as the nights became warmer.

The wild wheat feilds began to take on a golden color, shining in the sun, somewhat like the color the mountain lion's coat took on this time of year. And with such shade the season presented new challenges. The lions chased after the horses on occasion, though the sweltering days would fool one into thinking it would become easy for the lions to catch teir prey, one would be mistaken. The lions had grown slower, fat from the winter's abundance in rabbit and fish gathered in the pools frozen in place among the rocky tidepools. And the flightless foul that occasionally roosted in low branches at the draw of fall. But with the beaching dolphins the cougars remained fat and lazy, feasting their weight each in beached dolphins, with the reason that the food supply never tapered.*

*The day began hot, the flies whisking around the herd numerously, attracted by the hot scent of the heat where the misquitos and ticks were kept at bay by layers of mud. Sepsis dug her muzzle into the thick mud, shoveling pound after pound onto Moonstruck's back and rubbing it about her body in the places where rolling had missed. She snorted and mud trumpeted into the air like water from a whale's blowhole. A few of the other horses did the same. As the herd stood around, cocking their tired hooves and holding their heads down low, Spellbound came to high spirits, prancing about the valleys with Ashwood, the only two not bothered by the heat. Spellbound walked gaily over to Dreamcloud and Sepsis, nosing their foals in hello. Ashwood stayed a few strides away, watching the wheat feilds carefully, looking for a swishing tail or a hungry glare.*

*Dreamcloud looked up into the sky as Sepsis coated her back in mud, avoiding her wings.*

I don't recall the summers before this one ever being so hot. Or the wheat feilds ever being so thick...I don't think it's safe to stay here for the whole summer, if it wasn't for Kaio's wings, he'd be sitting in a lion's belly by now, he isn't a runner..

*Sepsis looked towards the wheat feilds, and up to the sky, and then down at the mud as Dream spoke*

I suppose everything does seem a bit warmer..Even the mud isn't all that cool anymore..Nor is the wheat as thin as it has been..But how could we escape and where would we go? Not all of the herd has wings..

Ghost spiraled downward back towards the herd, Prince close behind him. The two had been out for a quick flight to try and cool down. The air was hot and warm but the wind from the flight had been enough. He landed and trotted over to join the rest of his herd. He walked over to Dreamcloud and Sepsis, nickering a greeting to them and their foals. He was already growing hot again.

Prince landed shortly after his sire and galloped over to Spellbound. He nosed him happily in hello, then proceeded to do the same to Kaio and Moonstruck. Prince was growing into a gorgeous young stallion, his bay coat shone gold in the sunlight and his wings, pure white, were feather-full and large. He had beautiful conformation and his step was graceful and suspended. His black mane had grown out just below his cheek and his forelock was growing out over his eyes now. He snorted again and pranced lightly around in good spirits.

Evander sighed and nickered to Kaio. He had been working on teaching him how to control his flame.

((Haha thanks Aqua! Yeah, I seem to be a bit Andalusian-nuts don't I? xDD ))

Diamond trotted threw the thick trees of the forest, flickering her ears to every dirrection. She didn't trust the forest, but it was way cooler in the forest then it was in the open were the herd was. She slowed down to a walk, and hung her head low as she dragged her steps. The heat was getting to her, and it was making her lazy and sleepy. She saw a small lake up ahead, and lifted her head a little. She quicken her walk and once came to the lake she bowed her head, and stuck her muzzle into the water. She pulled it out right away. Warm. Was it possible to get any cold water around here anymore? Diamond didn't know what was happening to this place. Last summer, the herd was fine. This summer it wasn't too good. It was all hot and sticky. Diamond shook her head, her long white mane shaking in every direction. "Well, better head back to the herd." Diamond looked at the water again, and took a sip. She coughed and shook her head again before trotting slowly out of the forest, and breaking back to a gallop back to everyone.

Jewel snorted as she stood next to Storm, swishing flies away from each other. "Ugh Storm, it's so hot out." Jewel complained to her 'brother'. Strom snorted. "We could always go for a swim in the ocean." Jewel shook her head. "It's way to warm the water." Jewel was growning into a fine young mare. Her coat had faded into a darkish blackish grey, her mane flowing almost to the shoulder; a couple of inches and it would past. Her tail was long and dazzling, standing tall. She sighed and laid her head over Storm's back as she watched Prince. Why did he always greet the other foals, but never come around to were Storm and her were? Jewel shook the thought out of her mind when Storm asked her something. "You wanna go for a run?" Jewel lifted her head off Storm's back and bobbed her head, he forelock flapping over her eyes. "Sure." Storm turned around and leaped from a trot into a gallop, Jewel following.

*Sepsis laid in the tall wheat grass, Moon pawing at random molehills, chasing the family of moles about.*

How can you have such energy in this heat...

*Lurching upwards, the old gray mare made it to her feet. Bits of chewed wheat and weeds stuck in her coat and hair, falling off like pine needles. Sepsis had never been fond of rolling in mud, since it washed off she didn't bother with it again. Every insect that drank her blood died instantly. As she walked towards the mountains Moonstruck darted before her, dashing about as if the weather were cool, crisp and energizing. Slowly, they made their way up the mountain, a newly aquired skill keeping all cougars at bay. Sepsis stood at the near top of the mountain, Moon closeby yet quiet and still, watching for cougars and cyotes.

The gray mare slowly bowed to the sky, holding her stance for several minutes until the clouds moved in; surging with lightning and bulging with rain. Moving with the clouds the mare rolled her eyes back into her head and carefully. Her mane and tail whipped about violently, her wings tucked tightly to her back and her hooves gripping the ground, seemingly growing from the rock like an old, gnarled oak. She blew a cold breath towards the sky for a moment, and as if she had just sliced them wide open like a gutted catfish, the rain poured from the clouds like a waterfall.*

Ghost looked to the sky and sighed with relief. Finally...Rain.

Prince looked skyward and whinnied his delight. The cool rain was soothing on his back and he flared his wings to their fullest to wet them as well. He half-reared and nipped playfully at Spellbound and Kaio, encouraging th other colts to play with him. He still refused to include Storm. He still viewed him as his rival and a threat.

Diamond had just slowed down to a gentle trot, when her mane started to fly and her tail whipped the ground. She looked up at the sky were it looked all black and it was very windy. By the looks of it, Diamond thought their was going to be a hurricane. But that thought went away when she saw Sepsis and rain falling from the sky. It cooled down Diamond a lot, and she let out a happy snort.

Jewel and Storm were bucking, nipping and rearing at each other as they tried to wrestle each other to the ground. They used to do that when they were younger but it was still really fun. They both stopped when rain started to fall. They whinnied happily.

((yeah...Oh well, I gave them both a week to reply and nothing, so I think that for this roleplay we need a fresh new face to get things going again. Which means new horses for angel and bri once they come back, unfortunately. Thats whats gonna happen. Since they havent replied in so long I reserved the right when I made this roleplay to get rid of charachters of people who hadnt posted in a week when no previous notice has been made.))

*Many days had passed since the hurricane left the island in tatters. Kipcha, Diamond and her foals had died. Ashwood and Spellbound had dissapeared without a trace, the mountain lions were descending from the mountains and had begun to pick over the corpses, scavenger birds picking over the bones, resting on the exposed ribs. The caves had begun to take on the smell of rotting meat, as the smell drifted in from the lands where they had been killed. Trees lay toppled over in the forest, sand from the beach had been heaved inland for nearly a hundred yards. Sepsis was in the skies off in the distance, scouting for a new home, while the remaining horses stayed back. Moon lay at Dreamcloud's feet, Kaio picking at grasses, beggining to take an interest in things other than milk. Ghost lingered in the caves despite the smell, and Evander watched the horizon. After a few more hours, Sepsis returned bearing news of an island miles off the shore.*

*The gray mare, thin with hunger, landed near the caves. Much of the herd looked to her for news and she told them of a vast land far from their destroyed home.*

Is it possible to get Ghost to come with us..? He isn't handling this well, Lithea and Prince are out of the question as well..Soon the dead will be nothing but bones, and if they stay here they'll be next..Any food left will soon be gone, the land is flooded..It's uninhabitable..

((I guess I'm taking over Lithea as well then.))

Ghost stood with his head hung, the loss of his mare was heavy on his heart. He looked up when Sepsis came in and shook his head, he tried not to appear too downhearted in front of his herd. He walked up to Sepsis. He had thinned out quite a bit as well and he looked rather ragged. "Of course I'll come. I won't abandon my herd." He said.

Prince and Lithea looked up from where they had been lying. They were just as thin as any of the other horses and had lost a few feathers in their wings. Prince sighed heavily and got to his feet, soon followed by his sister. They walked together over to their sire. They seemed to be taking the loss of their companions harder than the loss of their mother. The still had Kaio and Moon though. "Let's just leave, Sepsis is right, it's completely barren." Prince said. Lithea nodded in agreement.

Evander turned his gaze away from the sun and looked at them, he seemed to be the only one mostly unaffected by the hurricane. "This land holds too much misery in it for us as well. I agree; we should find a new home." He said, then returned his eyes to the horizon.
