Damion stopped dead in his motions, hands stopped at his chest level as he stared at Maximos," A what?" He asked softly, quite clearly understanding what he had heard, but wanting to clarify for his own sake. He seemed to tremble alittle, his hands slowly turning into fists as his eyebrows drew down. For one who admittedly didn't know much of the world, his reaction to the meere mention of a demon seemed to infuriate him, veins showing at the corners of his eyes, creeping towards the pupils. " And no one's done anything to fix it?" He asked, obviously restraining himself, his teeth grinding together.

"Why would they?" Tomorrow asked as he continued piling boxes atop one another. "It's a desert for a reason. The heat has been melting it steadily. If anything, the flora will be a little more greener for the next few hundred years."
The question of his Tribe was stealthily evaded. There was only two true-blood Tribals left, as far as Donner knew. The rest had been killed many, many years ago. Damion didn't need to know that at this moment in time. Unlike Maximos, Donner felt guarded when talking to strangers...even strangers as helpful as this man. It was the reason he introduced himself by his Gaian name instead of his true one. You never know who's listening...
"Dont like demons, huh?" Donner asked the man with a wry smile. "We've killed our share, over the years. I even got possessed by one once. Remember that, Maxi? It got me to make that singing sword..."

"You could say that...." He said through gritted teeth, before his mind focused on the mention of a sword. " A Singing Sword? How'sat work exactly?" Damion asked, picking up another box as his adrenaline slowly lowered, the meere mention of a demon getting his blood up in ways no insult ever could. " Does it have little curves on the blade to make a noise or something?" He asked, carrying another two boxes over, figuring it too hard to carry another one on his head. Despite the work, his eyes never left the two, flickering from one to the other almost constantly. His energy seemed as boundless as his interest aswell, for even when he had to stop moving one leg would begin to tap, the heel bouncing up and down rapidly.

"It was so sharp, it cut the air itself." Donner explained, leaning against the pile of boxes to watch Damion move. "When you swung it, it would cut the air and the sound it made was a soft singing noise. You could make different noises depending on how you swung it, my daughter used to be very good at making music with it..."
His voice trailed off for a moment, his eyes distant, staring off into space...before he blinked, coming out of his funk. "Your Tribe - when you move stuff, you do it together, huh? Sing as well...keep the mood high, make it fun?"

" Yeah! I play the drums personally...though I don't know much about moving. Islands don't make for nomads." Damion said, watching his new aquaintance curiously," I take it you don't see you family that often?" He asked softly, a look of true concern on his face. He wasn't good at hiding feelings, because most of the time he didn't really want to. " You should, ya know? Families important." Damion said decisively, walking back over to grab another box, actually going so far as to pat Tomorrow on the shoulder, a feat which had him jumping up and stretching to do so.

"I would, but ah..." He paused for a moment, frowning. "...We had a falling out and now we don't talk anymore. It's real hard now."
He cocked an eyebrow as the man leapt to pat his shoulder. He was surprisingly affectionate...
"If family is so important, why did you leave the island?"

Damion paused at that, seeming to go into his own little word much like Tomorrow had done, although his was much shorter lived, " Because my family just wasn't worth it." He said softly, before turning grabbing one final box, hefting it up alittle faster than he anticipated, sending it up into the air for a breif flight before the islander caught it in a rush, his eyes widening comically.

He cringed at the mention of that sword. The Lament. A barbarian of a man wielding a katana with almost no regard for its worth, its legacy, and it entirely clashed with his style. He cringed a bit harder when Tomorrow mentioned his daughter.
Choosing to hold his tongue he grabbed another set of boxes, one under each arm and made his way back to the ring noting how full it was. He raised a hand stopping each of the workers with a gesture, then turned around and kneeled before the runic ring gently placing his right hand on it farthest edge.
A violet glow spread quickly like fire from his fingertips across the ring filling its every symbol before slowly spreading up over the boxes themselves. Without warning each box was embraced in lilac and in a single flash a bolt of lavender shot straight up into the sky. The clouds would part for just a moment giving a glimpse of land hovering about a mile above. With the ring clear, Maximos gestured for everyone to continue.

Damion paused at the flash of light, looking momentarily stunned before shaking his head and grinning," Freakin' awesome man.....whole magic deal....just awesome." He mumbled, laughing alittle. Obviously he was a man entertained by much, probably the cause for his sunny disposition. " So....where do all these boxes go anyways?" He asked, eager to turn the conversation away from family now. " If that's not pryin' mind you." Damion went on, glancing over at Maximos for amoment and arching an eyebrow, before that same eye flicked over towards Tomorrow before he winced and shut both eyes," Oh ow.....that's why I shouldn't try that..."

Ah, its nothing really, just a simple transport array.
Maximos paused looking somewhat embarrassed. There was no way to gracefully or socially escape that without risking grandeur. So he simply faced it head on.
My home.
He said pointing straight up. Above was cloud cover, but above that was Shadow Island. Clouds brought rain, and desert didnt see much rain, thusly didnt have many clouds. So the cloud cover was...lacking at best. Damion would be able to see the full island up ahead. A one mile chunk of earth floating roughly 6000ft overhead. Large violet runes could be seen fully ignited around the 400ft cone of earth which extended down beneath the islands surface.
These supplies will last us a month or so. Walter burns through food like wildfire...
He said remembering the actual scale of one of his spreads. Tomorrow could vouch for that.
...though, nothing goes to waste!
Which is to say, it was all really really good food.

Donner smirked as he placed his hand upon Damion's shoulder and pointed up to the sky, leaning down to look the man in the eyes, mirth sparkling in his. "He lives in the clouds, my son, on an island in the sky - do you think him a fairy?"
He laughed, as if it was a great joke, before placing his thumbs in his pockets, regarding Maximos with a smirk. "When are you going to get your head out of the clouds and come back to Gaia, my brother?"

" Woah...." Was all Daimon could say to something like that, staring wide eyed at the floating island, jaw hanging wide open for amoment before snapping shut, a grin instead spreading. " An Island in the sky....that is amazing....is that normal here on the mainland?" He asked curiously, looking up at Tomorrow with a quizical expression on his face. " I mean, we see the occasional squid or shark out in the waters on some days but....no islands like that....how does it stay up there anyways? Does it have something to do wtih all those runes or something? do you guys ever have to watch out for mountains?" Questions flowed unstoppable from his mouth as they came to him. He was almost like a child here, everything was new and different after all.

Maximos just looked at Tomorrow, cocked an eyebrow, then returned to work gently shaking his head. He really didnt know what to make of that comment, so he didnt make anything of it. He made a quick gesture guiding one of the other workers and then heft a box up over his right shoulder and carried it to the circle.
He just let the questions play like a recording in the background, it wasnt rude it was just that there was no way he could explain it all save for one explanation. And he would never interupt the boy to give it. So, after the verbal release had passed he pepped up.
No, to my knowledge mine is the only one. Its magic my friend, and that you do see alot of that on the mainland.
As for questions about its form and function, since Maximos was going to be offering Damion dinner, the boy would be riding on the island after the boxes were done. And as they were heading toward Durem they would be crossing over a mountain range and across a long plain...Which is to say he would be finding out for himself soon enough.

" Well then I'm glad I've got my shield." He said, reaching back to pat the circle of metal before going back to his box carrying, carrying one under each arm each time he returned to the stack, setting them down in the circle, carefully avoiding the lines in the earth each time. Damion didn't seem to have any questions left, but every now and then he'd look back up at the island high above them, scrutinizing the bottom of it with narrowed eyes. He thought he head seen similar markings before, but it could just as easily have been his imagination, and probably was. " So....what are some of the landmarks here on the mainland? We had some old maps back on the island, but the only place they seemed to show was this big stadium, or how to get there atleast."

Damion paused suddenly, looking down at the ground for amoment before spinning towards Tomorrow, his shield flying out from one outstretched arm, whizzing through the air like some mad frizzbie past the giant mans hip. The disc of metal gleamed gold in the sunlight, sending shards of light off in all directions until it hit its' target, a small thief creaping up behind one of the sailors, near the waters edge. It sounded like a gong being hit as the metal hit soft flesh and bone, a deep, resonant ringing noise that shook inside the chest, the man it hit being thrown a good five feet throught he air before falling straight into the water. The shield rotated several times, becoming a floating orb of light where the man had been before hitting the concrete of the ground, bouncing only once before settling on the ground." Bingo." Damion muttered, smirking pleasedly as he trotted the twenty feet to retreive his shield.
