Well, just because they don't have the exposed accelerator rails doesn't mean they're not Rail Rifles. Just look at the difference between the Vehicle and Crisis Burst Cannon and the Steath cannon. Same weapon, but on the stealths, the barrels are encased, while they're exposed on the former two.

Chakra_Thief GT_Popogeejo They are armed with rail rifels.I think the drones use the Tau controllers Bs. I highly doubt those are rail rifles. They look nothing like rail rifles, or rail guns. Rail weaponry always consists of two barrels seperated by a space. The pathfinders are definitely carrying them, but the drones are equipped with something new. The guns look like a form of pulse technology. GW news page Sniper Drone teams consist of a single Tau Spotter and three rail rifle-equipped drones, providing pinpoint accurate anti-personnel firepower. I'd say thats pretty conclusive.

Do you guys have any info on the Vespids? I've heard a bit about them but still don't know what part of the Force Org. chart they'll be on... Quote: But Im thinking the Rail Rifle drones may be the heavy weapons weve been looking for Well, that's just dandy! Our squad heavy weapons are the first to go if the unit gets shot at...
Ooh, I've been pondering this for a while now, what about what it says in the current Dex about burst cannons being just an automatic version of carbine. If that's true, they should force pinning checks too shouldn't they? That would be a nice change...
Also, what's the range on the Rail Rifle?

savage_2501 Do you guys have any info on the Vespids? I've heard a bit about them but still don't know what part of the Force Org. chart they'll be on... Vespids will be a Fast Attack choice, replacing the Kroot Hounds, which are becoming a squad upgrade for Kroot. Rumor has them at 3's for WS, BS, T, and S, with a 7 Ld, 8 with a squad leader, and a 5+ save. I've heard they're Jump infantry with Fleet of Wing, and some kind of short range AP3 gun. GT, the Vespids have not even been released yet, so no one knows thier points cost, but posting thier rumored stats is not illegal. It's not as if anyone can buy Vespid models and use them until the new codex comes out anyway. savage_2501 Well, that's just dandy! Our squad heavy weapons are the first to go if the unit gets shot at...

Also, what's the range on the Rail Rifle? Actually, they way I've heard it, the 1-3 drones the sniper controls deploy and operate independently, and you can take up to 3 snipers per heavy support choice, you you could have 9 sniper drones on the table, and your opponent would have to shoot nine times to kill them. In addition, I've heard that the drone controller Tau has a Stealth Field like the Stealth Suits do. The burst cannon is a multi-barreled version of the carbine, as the carbine is already automatic. It doesn't cause pinning because it lacks the carbine's underslung grenade launcher And actually, I beleive the rail rifle can be posted, as GW has not actually included them in any official codex (or the Wargear book for that matter) and furthermore, GW UK has the rules for them online, so I'd say posting them is fine. Actually, checking it out, GW UK has not only the rules for the rail rifles, but the stats for every Tau weapon and model online as well. Sick. Just look here for the stats.

Thats good. Kroot hounds took up a valuable slot but thats why I like the Kroot hound packs for the Kroot list. They can have 20 hounds in the pack if I remember correctly

Yeah, I book marked that site, thanks Oryn! I knew about the AP3, but that was it. Jump troops are good... 3nodding
Hmm, 9 snipers running around shooting things, yep sounds good to me! Oooh, Stealth Field... surprised The way the other guy said it, it sounded like the drones were going to be assigned to FW teams rather than them being on their own, so that's why i said what I did because that would mean that they would have to e targeted first.
I thought it was just it being a carbine rather than a rifle that forced the pin test, not the GL... Oh well. That's what I meat was the multi-barrel part... oops.

IF they are actually assigned to FW teams, perhaps the teams can start to kill SM's consistantly. Personally, I don't think GW will do that. Doesn't fit in with the way they have made the Tau so far.

No problem, but your original post was wrong anyway. If you put a single, or even a pair of Sniper Drones in a squad of Fire Warriors, they wouldn't have to die first. Majority Toughness and Mixed Armor rules override the "Drones die first" rule in our codex. It's been FAQ'd. So you could lose the Drones last if you want.

I just want opinions on this, but if the IoM launched another crusade against the Tau, would the Tau A). Succumb to it B). Barely survive it C). Repel it with some difficulty D). Repel it easily E). Drive it back into the IoM and capture some worlds in the process F). Destroy it completely and capture IoM worlds and troops
I would say D, as they repelled teh Damocles crusade, which was their first conflict with the IoM. They would probably have an easier time of it this round.
