Sgt_OBrien My brother's Gaunts shot down my landspeeder in a small game with fleshborers. gonk
That's just painful. Of course, I've had Tank Hunter Marines plug holes through Rhinos before.
And to the current turn of discussion: It does seem like the Run rule was made to just fine tune those Swarmzilla armies.

Question, Will my carnifex benefit from that 4+ cover safe if I put a squad of gaunts in front of him. And does he block line of sight of my own units.
Can units fire through other units (belonged to the same person) without giving the enemy a cover save? or do they get cover saves from enemy units blockin each other.
Questions I've been curious about

Carnifex.
What's their role in the army now? Fill em up with goodies and they just get gunned down, especially with the Monstrous Creature rule enabling the enemy to pick them out from the crowd.

It depends on what you want. They can serve as Tank Hunting beasts if you give them Venom Cannons, a troop slaughterer with Barbed Stranglers, or just an all out CC Monstrosity if given proper equipment. Of course they're going to draw fire, but they always have. Nobody in their right mind is going to leave a 'Fex alone.

Well, you've always been able to pick out Monstrous Creatures, haven't you? The big deal with the Tyrant Guard was that they had a special rule saying that you can't pic out the Tyrant from its unit of guard.

You've always been able to pick out MC's. 5th hasn't changed this. Carnifex builds will probably shift some, with people taking more devilfexes and cheap CC fexes over the usual 3 sniperfexes, now that glancing is no longer viable for tankhunters.

I'm planning to put my Genestealers on 40mm bases because they simply dwarf 25mm ones (not my picture, but illustrates the point). Has anyone done anything similar?

I've seen it been made, and it wasn't that good, unless you make a VERY scenic base of course, but with the new rulebook it's against "the rules" though as I belive it said you need to use the bases they come with (in 4th ed they could use bigger bases but not smaller), but you should do it if you like it.

Reference a page number? The guy at GamesWorkshop mentioned nothing of the sort.

Page 3, under the heading 'Bases.' If you're supplied a base with your model, you must glue the model to it before it's legal. If you use larger that normal/scenic bases, you have to clear it with your opponent.

If you use larger that normal/scenic bases, you have to clear it with your opponent. That's more saying that models have to be based. It's very rare that you'll find someone who refuses to play you over such things, kinda like the 4th edition rule that you need to clear Special Characters with your opponent.

It's implemented because base to base is really something that counts now. Bigger base = taking up more space, meaning less models within 2" fighting zone.

Okay, let me start out by saying hello!!!!
I am a Tyranid player, and unfortunately for me, it is a bit embarassing to be saying so right now... I started playing a long time ago, back with the previous edition of the codex was out, and am back now with the newer one, and I desperately need some help.
My opponents for the time being have been Imperial Guard and Tau. Though now he only plays Tau, so..... Just Tau.
I must say, every single game I have played, I have lost, savor one (where I ripped the hell out of one of his Imperial Guard tanks, and his regular foot-soldiers couldn't even roll to hit my 'fex because I pumped him full of chitinous armor XD XD XD XD )
I don't know what's wrong, or if there's something I'm not doing right. I've played with 500 and 1500 pts, and seem to lose every time, and while I know you are going to probably lose more than win in this game, I have become the laughing stock of my friend because some games I can't even get to him before he wipes the floor with me.
So!! As a dedicated and lover of playing Tyranids, would it be possible to have some help or friendly advice? I have some of the models, but I'm scared to put them together becuase every army list I make gets laughed at and punched through within the first few turns.
The last game we played was 500pts 'Nids vs. Tau. My army consisted of 6 Warriors (one of the brood's bein' HQ) with Deathspitters, Enhanced senses, Venom Cannons, and rending claws. Then I had two broods of Hormogaunts with +1 str.
The battle was.....okay-ish I guess. He had two squads of Fire Warriors and one of those Battle suit things for his HQ and about five Gun-Drones. Apparently his Fire Warriors weapons don't allow me to get an armor save since Pulse Rifles are AP 4?? He ripped through my Gaunts like a Turkey on Thanksgiving, I got half of the two Broods into CC (each brood had ten, and had about 5-2 left before I got to assault him)
With the Warriors laging behind (I gave them the big guns in hopes of them doing damage to the HQ becuase I've had good games with big weapons before) And..... the guns didn't do anything. The Warriors BS wasn't even enough to wound the armor, and my Tau enemy also had a 2+ save and a 6+ Invulnerable????
So I finally got the Warriors into CC with the HQ, and the HQ was failing, but at this point, I was like.... what's the point? I killed about a full squad between the 24 Fire warriors, but clearly, I was at some sort of disadvantage. We gave up when my Gaunts were killed and just my three Warriors remained....
*sigh*
Looking back, I forgot about the Fleet rule for Gaunts, I could have assaulted him on the first turn.... and if I gave the Warriors the Leaping rule and scything talons, I could have also done more damage to the HQ...But still... I made a bad army list, didn't I? I'm certain I could have had a better game if I had chosen differently...
The majority of my games turn out like this, half my army gets wiped on their first shooting phase of my opponents turn. I know it happens of course, but there's gotta be some way to at least get most of my army through so I can assault, right?
I tried and tested having the Warriors just to shoot, and they're....horrible (to be nice) so next time I'm definitely going with a more CC oriented army.
I did get to see a "professional" Tyranid player a while back play in a tournament, I only saw one game, and even then, the Tyranid player was really nasty towards me and very stuck up. It was a let down, but I watched him tear through a Space Marine Tank and squad of normal troops....
And I'm wondering, is there any staples that a Tyanid player needs?
Like maybe a Winged Tyrant?
Or a Brood with a specific bio-morph? Which bio-morphs help Tyranid players most?
Those are my questions on Tyranids. I love the game, I love to play, I just.... I need guidance, since I've yet to see Tyranids totally trump another army~~~ ANY army.
Hmmmm..... there are also a two general questions I had:
1. How big is the tabletop for a 500pt army? We were playing on a table 2ft by 4ft and my opponent was saying it was too small...
2. If you're in CC and you kill your opponent, do the rest of his squad move in after you kill his guys? Or do yours move in afterwards?
For anyone who might be able to help me, thank you!!!
