"That is true," Lin murmured.
Though unless it was training he normally waited for her didn't he? It was only then she realized how much she was use to Earendil simply being there. It was hard to imagine him now not being there.

Haldia looked at Lin over her shoulder. "Are you all right?" she asked, more worried about Lin than about Earendil. "I do not believe that I have seen you this anxious before ... he is going to be all right, you will see."
She offered Lin a brave smile, hoping to make her feel better.

"Hmm?" Lin snapped out of it.
She had been thinking hard when was the last time she had been with Earendil and not known where he was.
"I'm fine... I'll be fine, don't worry. This is just... strange for me."
Okay, perhaps more than strange, really she knew the whole being anxious thing was completely illogical, but Earendil had been so weird yesterday.

Haldia blinked at Lin. "Strange?" she repeated. "Does he not often go somewhere early in the morning, before even eating?"
In her experience with him - at least, at the palace - he had been frequently absent in the mornings. To her it was almost natural. Really, the only reason she was out here was because Lin was worried.
They had gone almost all the way to the valley already, and since they hadn't found him, Haldia turned the roc around. They would circle the ranch for a while and see if he was anywhere near there.

"He does, but normally I know where he is!"
She blinked and realized that really didn't sound very right, it made her sound like his mother or something, which was kind of disturbing. Lin didn't even dare tell Haldia that under normal circumstances he tended to wait for her when he wasn't training.
Which in itself somehow didn't seem quite right, but it was right to her.

Haldia laughed aloud as the possessiveness of Lin's tone. It was just funny to her - but then, she was one of the people who knew about Earendil's love for Lin, and she knew that were the situation different, Earendil would be thrilled to know that Lin was so worked up over his absence.
"We will find him," she grinned. "And then you can ask him yourself where he was and why he did not wait for you."

Lin blushed greatly at that, "I didn't mean it like that... I mean, he doesn't have to wait for me all the time."
She always knew deep down inside that one day he would stop waiting, he did have a life after all and she knew that. He was always waiting for her, and it was obvious from his conversation with Shael he was ready to stop waiting if only this unnamed girl would return his feelings, which wasn't happening.
It made her wonder though what would happen if that girl returned his feelings.

"No, that is true," Haldia grinned. "But you must have realized by now that he does it because he wants to. He showed me to the city while you were home again, and it is quite clear to me ... there are very few people that he respects, and fewer still that he has true affection for. You are one of them."
The main one, but it was not her place to say.

"That's because most care about his rank," Lin shook her head, "It would be so bad if most were like say... those in the Eastland."
She had a feeling though it was because the ruling family there was young and the people there remembered what it was like before Estel and Lothirel became king and queen.
Lin paused, "Did.... Earendil show you the candy shop?"
It was morbid curiousity.

Haldia nodded. "Yes, but only once he was sure that the owner's daughter was not in," she replied, not thinking anything of it. "I believe that he took me to every shop, though ... I admit, I was curious and eager to see them all. But he did not seem to respect any of the young women. The older and married women, yes, but ... that was it."
She chuckled softly. "He even said to me that until he met women from outside the city, he could not find any that he could even just tolerate."

Somehow Lin could see that, she had to chuckle at it, even though poor Earendil probably had a hard time being in the city with all those women.
"Yes, well... all the young and unmarried are after him for a husband," Lin replied, "It's not wonder why he can't even tolerate them. He's eighty years old, you'd think by now they would have figured out he's not interested."
Actually when she thought about it, he was eighty-one today. Lin pouted a bit, she didn't have anything for him. Darnnit.

"I have never understood those women who wish to marry a man of prominence," Haldia admitted. "I think that is the reason Kelirahc and I are such good friends. He was much like Earendil, back home. Sought after by the single women, young and old. I was never interested in him in that way, and so he never ran from me."
She was also aware that it was Earendil's birthday, but birthdays had never been anything special to her people, and so she didn't think anything of it.
"Somehow," she added, looking around, "I do not think this is the type of place where he will have to worry about such things, though."

"No..." Lin scanned the ground again for any sign of her friend, "Here is away from the city and the influences of a kingdom. In fact this place is sort of like an inbetween space it's not part of any nation."
Which was interesting..... she sighed as she looked again. Where was he?

"It reminds me of home in that way," Haldia smiled, looking around. Suddenly she pointed. "There! By the horses!"
Sure enough, far below them, Earendil could be seen leaning against a fence post and watching the horses. He was about as far away from the ranch house as he could get without getting lost, and Haldia wondered if perhaps he wanted to be alone. Still, she had to admit that he should have expected that people would be worried about him.
She nudged Rhiel gently, and the roc tightened its wings slightly and started to descend.

Lin was completely surprised, out of all the places that she expected him to be it wasn't by the horses. True it was still far from the Ranch House but on the other hand, he was obviously fine.
"What's he doing out here?"
