"I'm sorry. I didn't think it would come through the cracks. I- i should probably vacuum up there anyways." she said and turned away.

"uhh... yeah, sure." she said, absentmindedly as she walked down the stairs. her mind was filled with the images on the photographs. memories from a long time ago when life seemed perfect.

Cassie stepped onto the first floor and turned to the kitchen but then whipped her head back around and looked into the other room. she thought she had seen something. someONE who she knew she'd never see again. Cassie turned away troubled, scratching her head. *great, now i'm hallucinating.* she thought.

Julius sneezed. "Damn dust." he mumbled.

Cassie retrieved a glass and poured the milk. then she took the vacuum and went upstairs. she handed the glass to Julius. "Here." she said.

Cassie paused. she looked at Julius, almost in a daze. but she smiled. "you're welcome." she said. "I'll just, go clean up there." she said, starting to enter the stairwell.

Cassie walked up the stairs slowly, the vacuum felt like a hundred pounds in her hands. she didn't really want to clean the attic. she wanted it to stay the same. maybe she could just run some joint compound over the cracks so that the dust wouldn't bother Julius. she set the vacuum down and went back to her old photographs.

Julius frowned and looked inside his cup. "No more milk..." He shrugged and set the cup down on his nightstand. "Oh well..." he covered himself up and went to sleep.

Cassie sighed and left the pictures once more. maybe she'd show Julius some time. she picked up the vacuum and went back down the stairs. she left the vacuum on the first floor and went down into the basement and retrieved some joint compound and a putty knife. she returned to the room. she grabbed a chair and stood on it, applying the joint compound to wherever the cracks were.

Julius was standing in nothing but white. A cake appeared in front of him and he smiled. He grabbed it and scarfed it down.
Julius started to eat his pillow in his sleep.
