The boy screamed. He screamed like no creature Xenon had ever heard scream before or after. The sheer horror, the sheer agony in those harrowing tones made even Xan the elder grow slightly grim. Xenon wasn't regretting what he'd did, but one would have to be truly demented to enjoy a scream such as that...it was almost enough to damage a psyche itself.
Takasuki had dropped the rabbit when his friend fell back grasping at his head, letting out the terrible cry. He watched helplessly as his friend continued to scream, lost to the world as he even began to claw at his face as though in some attempt to rip whatever was being done to him out of his skull.
Finally, the screaming slowed...his expression becoming more and more faint... until at last...the screaming stopped. Xen pushed up his glasses his eyes back to his younger self. Xen the younger was looking shocked, shocked at what he'd done, shocked that he could truly do it, shocked that...he didn't feel sorry he'd done it. Xenon noticed the exact moment his younger counterparts mind turned to the repercussions of this.
He was no fool, he knew his father and mother suspected he had a Kekke Genkai...he also knew what they did to those who were found with such things outside a village... and now he'd used it against another child...this was not good...

The impact of the situation sinking in, he looked suddenly to his only witness. Xenon stood, looking suddenly...almost identically like his older self, almost, there was still a touch of desperation...he was not awake just yet.
"You..." Xenon said his anger building. Takasuki was staring into his comatose friends face. He was still breathing, but for all intents and purposes he was dead. Lost from the world. His mind was destroyed, his eyes, now soulless, forever staring into nothing...
At being addressed Takasuki looked up, and terror spread over his face. "I...no...no please..." Takasuki fell back "Please don't!"
Xenon the younger could feel the same sensation, he could do to this boy what he'd done to his friend, no one would know it was him, there would be no witnesses, he could keep living his life... he could...keep existing...
The fear in Takasuki's eyes was almost sparatic "Please, I won't tell anyone I swear to god! Please!" he was crying, his face wetting quickly as the two streams went down his face. "I won't tell anyone PLEASE!"
Xenon the younger, in fact both Xenon's face was cold. The Xenon of today would have assured the boy it wasn't personal, before calmly killing him...but...Xen the younger...
"You've given me your word..." Xenon said staring down at him... "I didn't mean...to..." he looked at what was left of Shinji, then returned his eyes to Takasuki "I'm not going to kill you..." he turned around "I never wanted to hurt anyone...I just wanted you to stop hurting him..." he looked slightly soulless himself "Get out of here..."
Takasuki looked shocked. "You're...you're letting me go?"
"I said..." he looked back his golden eyes cutting through the boy with their glare "Go." Takasuki didn't need telling a third time, he ran as fast he could, fled the scene... Xenon, after taking one last look at his conflicted past self, he moved on to the moments before his true awakening...the shattering of all illusions...

Xen couldn't answer her. Xenon the Elder stood watching his younger self, staring at his mother with catatonic eyes. She was staring at him with tears in her eyes, asking him questions for which he had no answers. Why?
His father stood outside the house, blocking the building with outstretched arms. He was trying to stop the crowd, trying to reason with them, trying to make them understand, trying to make them show mercy...but none seemed interested, especially the parents of Shinji. The Mob was only still kept at bay by the fact it was Doctor Maboroshi speaking to them, but even he who helped many in the village could only hold them for so long. They had murder in their eyes...
His mother put her arms on his shoulders and asked again "What happened? Xen I know you would never-"
Suddenly...it happened. Xenon the elder could feel it happen, he looked out the window and saw his father fall, a pitch fork through his stomach.
"DAISUKE!!" His mother's scream caused Xenon to shiver against his will...but then his eyes met hers...and he noticed something that he hadn't when he was young, even though he'd been looking right at her. The look in her eyes...killer intent. Tears welled in her eyes but his mother didn't waste a fraction of a second, she seized Xen's hand and, while he himself still looked completely bewildered and lost, she dragged him along behind her. Like a shot she fled from the back door, rushing into the woods behind the house.
Xenon the Elder was pulled along with the Memory, his feet not even moving as he kept pace with his Mother and younger self. The Mob it seemed was slowed down searching the house, setting it ablaze and ripping it apart.
Xen didn't rightly know how far they ran, but the Mob it seemed was still in pursuit, and they couldn't run forever...

His Mother stopped and looked at him, her face determined "Xen, go..."
He looked at her. "Wha-"
She turned back in the way of the pursuers. "Run...they won't follow you."
Xenon looked at her shocked again for a moment...until finally...it happened. "This...," Xen grit his teeth. "THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!!!" His mother looked back at him her face almost...hurt. "If it weren't for all those stupid ideas about...mercy and...justice...that's a bunch of LIES!" Tears were forming in his eyes "If I hadn't had spared that boy, if I'd just killed him too...none of this would've happened!!" His mother's face seemed to fade into a sad muse.
"I knew..." He muttered "I knew it was all an illusion but I believed you...I wanted to believe you..." he looked at her...suddenly...emotionless "But now this happens...Dad's dead, and now you have the gut's to just walk off and die for me too...?" he faced the other direction. "I don't hate those villagers...they did exactly what I expected them to...they're just scared, they're just selfish... who can blame them for that..." he looked back at her side long "Well from now on I'm never going to bother with that nonsense again...I'm never going to feel pain like this again...I won't believe in your illusions, I'll see through everything, I'll look out for myself and MY interests and the rest of the world can have the same privilege." his gaze was fierce.
"So go ahead...go ahead and die...leave me behind...I won't give up like you, I'm going to live..." His fierce eyes looked slightly surprised for a moment at the loving look in his mothers eyes. He'd expected many things from her reaction, shame, hurt, apology... but love...?
"Go then...live your life for yourself...follow the path you choose to walk on, and never doubt that what you've chosen...pay no heed to the right and wrongs others will try and force on you, follow your own heart...wherever it leads you...I know you'll be okay."
Xenon, for a moment, took a step back towards his mother, but then his eyes filled with cold again, and gave her one final questioning gaze...before running away...

Xenon nodded, this refresher, this reminder of his conviction, of his vow, even his mothers words. This had solidified it, he kept it all fresh in his mind, kept it all clear and vivid. He was ready... he would rest for the rest of the day, then, tomorrow...
But suddenly he noticed something. He wasn't being dragged along behind his past self any more, he was still aloud to remain in this clearing despite that he'd not been here to witness it...how could he have a memory of something he'd never witnessed...
He looked suddenly to the only person still in the clearing... his Mother. The Mob was coming, their torches glazing through the forest. His mother gave her warm smile, the one she reserved to make him feel better when he was feeling down. "Your a good boy Xen...you'll realize that someday..." she suddenly formed...his eyes went wide. Was that...a hand sign!!? "Goodbye...my sweet little boy. LIGHTNING RELEASE:-"
Xenon snapped awake, his eyes shooting wide open. What...what was that just now, there was no way he could've remembered that....and even more so...his mother had just been about to use...a jutsu!? That was...that was impossible... how...
He shook himself. No, it had to be a side effect of the dream trance, some kind of anomaly. Some kind of quirk...that hadn't been what really happened... his mother wasn't a Shinobi...she was a...a...
He realized suddenly, he didn't know what his mother was before she retired to take care of him...but...a Shinobi...impossible...it was completely impossible... he shook himself. He was being a fool, it was just a deviation in the dream...it's twist on reality... he had to focus on the now... he needed to get some rest for tomorrow... he still needed to master the effective practice Jutsu itself...and tomorrow would be dedicated to that...he pushed aside all thoughts about that odd occurrence and went back home to fix himself a big dinner...he was starving.

The next Morning Xen got up around his usual time, and this time grabbed some of his coffee. Ah...it'd been a while. He was going to master that jutsu today... he couldn't allow the last few days go to waste. If he didn't master it today...he'd just keep on trying...this Jutsu was just the first of more to come.
The Clearing he'd been using was occupied today, but he was able to recall another spot of similar caliber and settled in it, crossing his legs as he finished his coffee. He first had to gather himself,
the first step to a jutsu like this was Mental Preparation, while admittedly he wouldn't always have time to prepare.
First he refreshed his mind with all that which he'd spent the last days to reach, that state of mind, that state of...
The Visions of his defiance, the rush of the truth, the casting aside of those tattered fantasies... he formed the hand sign. The entire point of his current existence, the very thing which had set him upon his new path... the seeing of the truth, the destruction of illusion...if he couldn't master this technique...then he couldn't learn any at all.

The chakra was still there, just as it always was... still waiting there for him. Yet still, there was much he couldn't control...much he wasted, but now was not the time for that, now he had to focus on the Jutsu. Kai release was really just a rush of chakra through the system, but how effective it was was based on something entirely different.
Chakra was the soul's breath, the strength of the soul was the strength of chakra, to wash out Genjutsu was a battle of wills, so Xen had brought himself back to the very moment when his will was the strongest, when his soul was at it's peak.

He opened his eyes. While he was not so lacking in control that the chakra escaping his body was visible, his golden eyes began to shine as chakra escaped them...this wasn't really surprising though, for a clan like the Maboroshi, the eyes, which were the most effective medium for genjutsu at a distance, were their most prominent Chakra outlets. Even while he was actually rather proud of his Chakra control for an academy Student, even he was expected to exhaust at least some chakra unnecessarily.
Xenon was building the chakra, focusing it to his fore head, the key to the just was to wash a strong wave of your own chakra to eliminate all foreign chakra sources...he continued to focus on that single moment, when he'd truly felt his most powerful, when he'd broken the chains that bound him...

Xenon's breath was slow, his brow furrowed. The chakra was something like a slippery eel, you simply had to know how to grab it... the chakra built up in his Heaven Chakra suddenly stopped contracting...and he released. He shivered slightly as the shock wave ran through his system. He shook slightly and coughed, feeling himself weaken slightly.

He recoiled and wiped some sweat from his brow. Yes, he'd read about that, if one didn't execute the technique properly, then the wave would cause more harm than good... still...he stood, making the hand sign once more, he'd just have to make sure he didn't let the wave run wild...he had to guide it with his will... another try...

The day was creeping along slowly, Xenon continued to batter his chakra network, each time tempering the waves, each time that much closer, that much more in control.
He knew the only real way to test it was to have a real foreign chakra in the system, but it was really a matter of principle. Clearing out the system was technically all the Jutsu was about, clearing it out effectively that is.
A Genjutsu that infiltrated the body being expelled might do you no good at all if getting it out of you damaged the body more than the jutsu itself.

Xen closed his eyes. He was close...he was very close. He lessened the chakra, condensing a lesser amount to an even higher level of concentration. The key to this jutsu was control, as he'd said before, trying to over power a attacking jutsu was a waste of chakra he now realized and wasted chakra resulted in wasted time, and maybe even cost you your life in the right circumstances. He had to be efficient...he had to be flawless.
This wasn't some fruitless drive for perfection either, he simply had to be if he was going to survive, he knew it, and so did the other shinobi. In this line of work, a single fumble could mean the end, of your career, and your life.

Xenon removed his glasses, spinning them about one finger. Interesting...he was successful that time...but...it didn't feel right. The wind blew through the area around him, the trees swaying softly in the gentle breeze It didn't feel like it was his technique, it had felt empty, a mere motion of his energy...he frowned and slipped the spectacles back on. He had to keep trying. It wasn't even a matter of practicality any more...it was matter of pride. He smirked and made the hand sign...a finger print...he let his chakra flow once more...

'I...am going to live...' He felt it, he didn't know how, he didn't know why, but this was the moment. His veins rushed with power. He felt his own power coursing through him, his will completely controlling the current...if only for a single moment. his lips split into a smirk as he shouted out
"KAI!!"
The shout seemed to echo through him along with he energy, the rush of his own will, the rush of his spirit filling him, made him realize what all those scrolls meant. This was his soul, and it alone was his, no other could duplicate this exactly... no one could copy the thing that defined him as himself...
The Chakra returned to normal, Xenon relinquishing his control and allowing the chakra to return to it's mysterious currents. As he felt himself return to normal...he knew...
