To what level are "animal-sympathizer" vegetarians for animal rights?
If you support animal rights, why do you own a pet? And then, why not become vegan too? No leather, no dairy products, etc.
Varying levels, I suppose.
You could argue that it's human "nature" to eat meat, or you could argue that we have a moral conscience and therefore it is our "duty" to not eat meat. You could also argue that maybe, some animals survive longer in captivity because humans take care of them. Or, perhaps it's "wrong" to keep any animals in captivity, including cats and dogs. Etc.
Where do you draw the line?!

I eat meat because it's easier than researching all of the nutrients in meat that I'd be missing out on with a vegan diet... that and I just like meat. Meaty meat meat. <3
And you know, at the risk of sounding creepy, I'm pretty sure I'd have very few qualms about eating human meat if it was the only food available. Though I would prefer to have permission in advance. I don't fantasize about how people would taste, I'm not all that curious... I do like to bite people but I rarely draw blood. wink
I mean, if it's life or death. Donner Party sort of stuff...
Though I would consider eating a pet-animal or a monkey/primate right up there with humans as far as cannibalism. When you take an animal into your house and make it family, then it's a person, and eating it is wrong--except as a last measure for survival.

I'm sure if you're trained to believe something is right or wrong, it's acceptable. Cannibalism for survival included if our planet ever comes down to that. xD
I eat meat because it's all I know to eat. That, and I'm allergic to fruit, and I hate vegetables [my mouth dries up and I can't even swallow them!]
My boyfriend is vegan. We amazingly have no diet issues and manage to follow our respective preferences around eachother. When we want to pick off eachother's plates [awww] we just go with middleground: rice, avocado sushi, "imitational meat" tofu [which tastes GOOD], PB&J sandwiches, daquiri ice cream, etc.

Well, I like fruit and vegetables, most of 'em, but when I'm HUNGRY, those aren't going to cut it. I need substance, something my stomach can wrap itself around for a good hour or two.

I don't know if I could ever eat a human or a pet. I'm not a big meat eater anyway. I've always preferred vegetables and fruit and of course rice. heart My sister doesn't eat any meat and my father doesn't eat red meat and I'm a bit lactose intolerant so it makes for an interesting time when trying to cook a meal for everyone to eat. xD
But I don't think I could go without fish. I swear, I get cranky if I don't eat any fish or rice for more than like three days. Must be the Asian blood. Hahaha :B
I've got to stop watching this damn movie. I can't get the songs out of my head now. DAMN YOU MOULIN ROUGE! >:[

I admire one's choice to abstain from meat, though personally it's not the choice for me. As long as it's a good cut of meat I'll eat it... but I also like vegetables and fruit and all that good stuff as well. I just tend to not be much into sweets are snacky foods.
I'd rather not be called to be yelled about how I'm not job hunting when after all I will be living in San Jose over the summer not Chicago neutral

If a stalk of wheat screamed when harvested, would you be a vegetarian after being on a farm with acres of wheat being chopped down?

S'all food to me. The only meat I consciously choose not to eat is veal.
Besides, we're just playing our part in the food chain.
I have a strong Chinese mentality/influence when it comes to food. xd

Setzer ~Another~ My philosophy teacher made a good point. If a stalk of wheat screamed when harvested, would you be a vegetarian after being on a farm with acres of wheat being chopped down? Probably not. In the case of my vegan friends, they believe in "live and let live" to a certain extent. Plants are living things too, but they don't feel "emotion" or "pain," so they're not regarded on the same level. But it makes me wonder: with that in mind, in a logical sense, is it OK to eat HUMANS who are vegetables?

By comsuming more vegtables and fruits etc, aren't they just taking more away from the rest of the animal population's food supply? Ha. Whatever floats your boat, I suppose. xp

Setzer ~Another~ My philosophy teacher made a good point. If a stalk of wheat screamed when harvested, would you be a vegetarian after being on a farm with acres of wheat being chopped down? Hahaha I said something pretty similiar to that before to this one girl who was going on and on about how she was a vegetarian because she thought it was so cruel to kill animals and destroy life and blahblahblah. (But she ate eggs...isn't that like, chicken abortion or something?) I mean honestly, what's wrong with killing a cow that's lived a full life just cruising around and eating grass? Hell, sometimes I wish I had that lifestyle. My uncle on my father's side hunts deer and I don't see anything wrong with that either. I mean, isn't it like population control? Do we let them just overrun the planet? Whatever happen to survival of the fittest? I still think they should run the whole world by that philosophy but my friend says it's because I'm just twisted. I just really don't like to eat meat in general, not for any altruistic reasons, but simply because I don't really like the feeling it creates in my incredibly picky stomach. So the thought of eating a human, which would probably be very rich and possibly fatty, is making my stomach scream at me. ._.
