little mintchan CPR!!!! gonk seriously what is it anyway? .Hack is a shounen manga/anime series that takes place mainly in an mmorpg slightly ahead of our time (seeing how I have yet to see one that comes with a 3-d headset). There are several sequels and prequels and whatnot. All of them take place in the same mmorpg.

.Hack is about a video game that comes out in "our" world (which we would consider the real world) that allows people to literally be inside the game. But s**t happens, and out hero's encounter evilness on several different levels, and you have your story. There are several different versions of .Hack
It starts out with .Hack//AI Busters (A novel that starts out the entire story)
1. .Hack//AI buster 2 (Sequel novel to AI buster, read the first story)
2. .Hack//SIGN (Prequel anime to the Games)
2. .Hack//AI buster 2 (Sequel novel to AI buster, read the second story)
3. .Hack//SIGN - Intermezzo(AKA Episode 27 of SIGN)
3. .Hack//ZERO (A seemingly discontinued manga series, read the summary online)
4. Games (PS2 only)
4. .Hack//Another Birth (The Games told through Blackrose's PoV)
4. .Hack//Liminality (Tells what happened in the real world during the Games)
5. .Hack//AI buster 2 (Sequel novel to AI buster, read the third and fifth stories)
