"I think..." Maia hesitated, thinking. "I've seen him angry once," she said. She wasn't looking forward to the next time. "It'll be the best cake," she promised.
When Dari emerged, she waved. "If you don't mind. I'm bringing Michael along, too," she added. "Want to help us prank Toby?"

"Michael?" Dari asked, looking around for the spirit a moment.
"Hello," Michael said, in his own voice from Maia's mouth.
Dari slowly smiled. "Ah. There you are. Of course I don't mind. He can attach to something in my car if he'd like. We can take it inside. What are you planning to do to Toby?"
He hit the unlock button again and then slid into the driver's seat.

"I don't know, what are we planning to do to Toby?" Maia considered the question. She'd have to leave that up to Michael. She didn't think she was particularly scary.
She climbed into the car. "I don't want to scare him too badly."

"I thought you had a plan," Michael admitted. He thought a moment and then shrugged. "I can startle him, or I can frighten him. It's up to you." Perhaps Maia would like to know what it felt like to fly?
"I won't let him know," Dari said as he started up the car and began to back out. "Just don't cause him any undue pain."
"Of course."

"I've never done this before," Maia said again, and shook her head. "Let's just...startle him?" It wouldn't be a fun prank if it upset Toby. Dari seemed to agree, too.
"I'm going to make Michael a chocolate cake. He wanted to know if chocolate's changed since he was alive. Do you know, Dari?"

"It has," Dari said with a nod. "It was only drinkable when you were alive, isn't that true?"
"Yes, but I've seen people eating pieces and bars..."
"So very much different, yes. Plus there's milk chocolate."
"Milk chocolate?"
"Exactly."

"Oh, so it has," Maia grinned. Drinkable chocolate only? "Milk chocolate is good! There's dark chocolate, but that's kind of bitter. I don't really like it."
"Do you like strawberry shortcake, Dari? Next time we should make it for Michael."

"It was very bitter," Michael said, "but now I'm excited to try it. Everything had changed so much, and I would never have had the chance to experience it if it weren't for you." Maia would feel rather emotionally warm just then.
"Of course I do. I like everything," Dari said, "If you want, we can put an order in at HQ, or we can buy the supplies for next time. If we don't have them already, anyway."

"You'll like it! It's not bitter," Maia smiled. It was the best, sweet and tasty--and maybe she was a little biased. She felt the warmth, and her smile turned soft. "It's the least I can do," she said. "Toby wouldn't be here if it weren't for you and Dari."
"We should do that," Maia agreed. "You'll like that too, Michael."

Michael remained silent then, but was very clearly not gone to Maia's senses. He didn't react well to compliments, Dari knew that. It seemed like he didn't know what to do.
"Alright, that'll be easy enough," Dari said with a nod. "It's pretty simple. Has Toby told you it's not?"

Michael was shy? That was kind of adorable! He'd saved Toby's life, and for that, she'd always be grateful. Maia smiled and turned her attention to Dari. "No, I've just never done it before," she said. "Whipped cream, sugar, strawberries and cake, right?" It was plain white cake, wasn't it? That was simple enough.

"It's a different sort of cake, depending," Dari said. He then went on to quote the recipe to her quickly, in comparison to another that Toby had taught him for generic vanilla cake. It was pound cake or shortcake when Toby did it. This talk of sweets lasted until they pulled into the driveway. Dari put the car in park and smiled to Maia and Michael. "I'll let you two go ahead."
Toby, it seemed, was already home.
"I have a plan," Michael said in Maia's head.

"You'll have to write that down," Maia grinned at Dari. "By the time I'm ready to use it, I'll have forgotten it!" Pound cake then? It sounded good! She wassure Michael would like it. Oooh, could they do the same thing with blueberries and peaches, maybe? She'd have to ask Toby.
Maia climbed out of the car. "A plan?" She prompted.

"Shh," Michael urged. He was quiet until the front door opened, Toby behind, it, smiling. He had planned to use some powers, to show Maia what it was like to float while sufficiently creeping Toby out.
Instead, the werewolf smiled, took Maia's cheek in his hand, and kissed her.
Michael was, needless to say, a little surprised.

Maia...hadn't expected that. She returned the kiss, trying to recover from the surprise. Oh dear! She should've probably warned Michael that that might happen. Poor Michael!
