"Join with us," she said, her tone coming out more strongly. She joined hands with Chronos and Leo, squeezed her comrade's hands. "Cancer, join hands with Leo. Leo... Just as in Barren Pines."

Her voice carried clearly as she spoke. "Chronos Knights! Join hands with us. The rest of you, please--we need power, and it will come if you call! So call for it! From your stars, from your Wonder, from anything you can. It will come if you call, and if we call as one."

[POSTING FOR DERIVATIVE]

All Leo had left was this. Hope, faith, trust -- in himself, in his comrades, in his princess. They had died before, many times, but they wouldn't die again. Not this time. It wasn't just them, it was every senshi here, every knight; the newly awakened, the veterans. It was every civilian whose soul had given itself up to form a barrier and protect them. It was Earth, it was everything that he held dear. Family, friends, even nebulous concepts like love and tradition and the sense of who they were. He had to trust in everything that he knew, from this life and the past, and hope that it was enough.

His hand, aching from exchanging blows earlier, was curled tightly around Virgo's. It wasn't so much for comfort as it was this was the link, this was the connection; Virgo to Leo to Cancer, and so on. Later, he would have time to stop and talk to his comrades, to welcome Cancer into the fold properly. For now, all he could do was pray.

Pray, with everything he had inside of him, for the strength to defeat their enemy, to expel them from their homeland, and to save who was left.

Zero Dream

As if she could deny him? She nodded and waited until Europa was done with his arm before helping him up, though not without a wince of her own - bad shoulder an all, y'know.

Slowly but surely she hot him there though, and looked to Virgo. If Themis was here to help the Zodiac, she was too.

channel together...

focus...

if only... believe...

Her faith was drained. There was little she had to believe in. But if there was even a chance, a glimmer of hope...a miracle...she could pray for that. Pray to the celestial bodies that gave them power. And through all the sorrow, failure, worry, and other negative emotions, she'd let hope take wing, and shadow it all.

Yes, she had heard it! The shout from Thisbe and Virgo only confirmed what she had thought. Give her power? To protect? The Shame Senshi wished that she had known she could do that earlier--she would've poured every last drop of the energy she had expended thus far into that cause.

Pasiphae looked directly into Nyx's eyes, and she didn't hesitate a moment. Nyx was her best friend, whether in a fuku or a Crystal Academy uniform... and she would do whatever it took to keep her safe. To keep all the forces of good safe. "I trust them, Nyx. I trust them enough... to give them whatever power they need from me."

Then, her eyes closed even though she never left her friend's side, and she dug deep, deep into her heart and soul. It had already given her so much. Powered her when she thought she was defenseless. Gave her the will to protect her allies and her friends. Kept her from falling into despair, even when it was bruised and cut from the pain she had to witness. Please... please, if there is anything else for you to give... please give it now. I want to protect them. All of them.

She only hoped... that her heart could respond.

Super Sailor Neso might look like a linebacker, but he was no warrior. He spent the majority of the battle making girlish noises and darting around saying things like, "Chronos? Virgo? Someone. RUN! People, let's hide! ...Chronos?" He hid in the safety of Chronos Castle for a time, and then, sensing his Princess in need, summoned the courage to actually run into the fray... even if he hadn't hit a single enemy yet.

And now there was a barrier! Huzzah. And a Cancer? Double huzzah! It was huzzahs all around, y'all.

Now people were holding hands too. Neso could not be happier. "We can totally do this, everyone," he said, grinning. "Good always wins! It's why the sun rises." The Senshi of Summer closed his eyes.

He was with them. He always was.

Bifröst listened to the talk around her and nodded, taking a place with the Zodiacs. Her eyes slide shut as she held the hand of someone she probably didn't know.

It is time, Mary... whispered Argabauth quietly in her mind.

Bifröst... Bifröst... I am the Gatekeeper of the Bridge. Bifröst, hear my words and listen! Lend us your power and throw out those who are unwelcome! She had no idea what her wonder was, or why she knew she was the Gatekeeper, but she was and forever would be the Gatekeeper.

Her soul seemed to hum.

"Darwin... Raven... Jett... hold on just a little more."

The convulsion to close his eyes came, and he listened to it - he reached, deep within, for something he'd felt only once, when he'd suddenly found himself on Naica, with MuCephei.

He saw the spires of crystals, he saw the faint images that had danced them for him alone. He saw, and listened...

"I pledge myself to Naica, and to Cosmos." He simply said, eyes still closed, as the song of his wonder overtook him, filled his mind with nothing but it's music, it's song.

The pain seemed to far away now.

Themis was afraid to close his eyes - afraid, perhaps, that if he did, he might not find the strength to open them again.

But he had to. He trusted Virgo with every fiber of his being - like a sister and guidance all in one.

He saw his world, his place, behind his closed eyes, his grip on Bellatrix strong, letting her guide him if she so wished. He saw the frosted glass, the chimes, the silver trees with purple leaves.

He saw the chime in Chronos' artifact room.

'Please... Please, save us all.'

The others would call to their stars and wonders if it pleased them, but Virgo closed her eyes, ignored Hematite's voice. Just as in Barren Pines... she squeezed the Princess's hand, Leo's hand, both of them, and prayed. An end to all of this, a validation of all of those sacrificed. The civilians whose bodies had become golden dust, the senshi and knights who had fallen underneath the Great Youma or its slaves. She didn't want any of it to be in vain. She had to believe that it hadn't been in vain, had to believe that this time, offering her prayers to the Opal would work. Once, it had carried her people far away from the scattered asteroids of their world, to a place safe within the Moon Queen's dominion... she believed it would do so again.

She imagined the look on Hematite's face--when they'd died, again and again, and this time when it had been her hands around his throat, feeling the muscles work. Please, Opal Crystal--please, White Moon. All of those things had to feed into it, everything, because the Opal Crystal didn't run just on the Zodiac's power--it took more than the Twelve. How had she forgotten? No wonder the Surrounding had shattered like brittle glass. It took more than just the determination of the soldiers stationed there.

It always had.

Thisbe didn't open her eyes, even when others began to comment on what she'd said. One fist clenched tightly while the other slid from Arsinoe's arm down to take up his hand, giving it a firm, reassuring squeeze as if that would be all it would take to make him believe too.

She didn't know much about being a senshi beyond what she had been told by Themis and Arachne; and now with the things she had learned during her time spent in the Surrounding. She was certain that there was more to learn; other ways to grow, to pass by expectations and maybe even save people. Knock the Negaverse down. She did know how to find that happy place within, though, and it was there she went, tapping into every bit of hope that she had left, pushing it out into the aura of her sphere and then sending it out to join the others.

Most of the times that Corvus had seen large gatherings of senshi there were squabbles. They didn't seem to all get along that often. Most of them had their own ideas; their own agendas... At least that's how it had seemed at first. Now, although they were still scattered and still separate, they were learning... And that was something that she could believe in.

Thisbe was right. If Civilians could give their all then, by damnit, senshi could too!

Corvus called upon the power of her constellation; on what little of her reserves she had left and everything else that the cosmos would be willing to lend her. While Corvus had been her home, once upon a time, Earth was her home in this lifetime... And she wasn't willing to give it up; not like this.

"In the name of Corvus..." She murmured, lips barely moving as she tilted her head up as though in prayer. "I believe..."

Hara Berezaiti, with her scratched arms still stinging and her kicked knees aching, edged her way back toward the other subjects of Chronos, reaching to take the nearest available hand. It was a bit... hippie... for her... but what else could they do? they'd barely scratched the thing and it just seemed to make the creepy baddies stronger.

Hara Berezaiti... help protect us! So many people have given up everything, even the chance to go home again, to try and stop this thing, how can the rest of us do anything less?

One of the other Senshi may have shouted that Senshi couldn't die, whatever that entailed, but she had no idea about the other people like her. She'd been yanked out of her kitchen and into space, and yanked out of her civilian life and into... into being a Page. Others hadn't even had that chance. They had to give that chance to anyone that they could.

Osumilite rolled his eyes to Pollux's and Avalon's comments.

"Please, boy," he spat to them both. Ever since joining the Negaverse, he felt he had been spending far too much time responding to the petty insults of teenagers. It was a waste of time, really. Their words didn't faze him - he had been insulted and turned down plenty, but despite it all, his arrogance and the memory that he is Tag ******** Swagger always reminded him that he was better than them. "I roll deep in more p***y than you'll ever know as you sit home alone getting cockburn from jerking it with a sock. Trust me, you are from anything close to a fantasy anyways, Avalon. You're more like the equivalent of a cold shower with your flat chest, freakish height and horrible personality."

"For once in your life Nemesis, stop being so damn difficult," Requiem demanded. She did not want to have to fight her former mentor, as much as she was prepared for it. She didn't want to have to see Nemesis be killed due to her stubbornness. She didn't want to see her friend be on the wrong side of this battle. Nemesis was wrong - why was she always so reluctant to see that?

"When this barrier comes down, you are coming with me, willingly or not," she said coolly. One way or the other, Requiem would see to it that Nemesis joined the Dark Mirror Court. Her own initiation had not been so willing, but she owed everything to Princess Ares for it. Perhaps forceful enlightenment is what it took to show these Senshi the truth.

Troy was afraid. They were losing, and this whole new life he had been given felt like it was moments away from being taken back. He was going to lose his life. He wasn't ever going to see home again, smell the baking of his mother's pies, feel the cool waters of a still lake as he cannon-balled off a dock, tell his friends and family goodbye.

Troy did what Ricky Cunningham always did in these times of trouble - he fell to his knees and began to pray.

"Jesus, God," Troy started. He cleared his throat. "Jewish God. Muslim God. Chronos. Troy. Whoever. I need ya'lls help. I dun' wanna die. I ain't gonna give up this fight, but I dun' you to let me die. I dun' wanna see any of these people get hurt any more. It ain't right that them Negaverse and Dark Mirror folks march up in here and take over. We need a victory. Help us."

"... Sir?" Her brows knit together for a moment, as she was addressed by the wrong rank. Or, not. He spoke, waiting for her nod of consent before plunging his hand inside of her.

If she'd been capable of thought, she would have noted that it hurt even more than her recruitment.

General-King Zinkenite released her, and the blonde fell to her knees, now-gloved hands flat to the torn earth. When she returned to herself, body flooded with a newer, stronger connection to Chaos, and the Great Youma behind them, her blonde head turned, dark eyes staring through the barrier.

"They're making their move."

Captain Howlite got to her feet, rolling her shoulders to loosen them, before reporting to General Hematite. She had a job to do.

A new, strange set of ripples rumbled through the air, at their epicenter the glowing hollow eye of the Great One. It wasn't quite sound, nor was it vibration at all... it was more like the area was being punctuated by waves of pure silence that made the road below them shudder and quake.

So touching, how your kind prays for hope...

And there it was again. That voice, that presence that formed words out of the dread and despair that persisted in the hearts of them all. Queen Metallia's tone was liesurely, savoring of the hopelessness that this situation had become for them, plucking and sampling at bits and pieces of their visible feelings as if the ensemble of senshi and Knights were a party snack tray.

But what is really left for you to pray for? Your powers have reached their limits.

Your so-called guides do not even bother to help you.

Your pitiful Surrounding is about to be taken for a greater purpose.

And there is nothing your childish hope can do about it.

Her voice hummed and rumbled, slowly bubbling, a low chuckle that threatened to sap away at any shreds of courage and determination that remained. The Great Youma loomed above the tiny shield, gazing hungrily down at the hapless beings within; the Negaverse and Dark Mirror senshi waited in a perimeter around it, eager for the moment when that bubble would inevitably pop. Behind and around them the stars themselves seemed horribly distant, taking a vigil over them that was as quiet as it was ambivalent -- simple celestial bodies, just the way everyone had initially thought they were supposed to be.

You can't possibly gather enough light to outshine me.

Gunn supported Hephaistos, walked them as close as she dared with that light emanating from the Zodiac Princess, her Court and her knights. Reluctantly, as ordered, she closed her eyes; because she thought it might help, she folded her palms as if she were at church, her brooch in hand like she was pressing a rosary between her palms.

By now she knew enough about her people's view of her, but she knew she shared a connection with her comet that none of the population in the Silver Millennium could have understood. She knew that if she called, it might come. It would answer her, she just had to believe that. Fight through the worries and believe that.

"Fire purifies," she whispered, and she reached out to Gunn for the power she knew she would need.

“Hematite, choose a team and start attacking the shield.” He said suddenly and sharply. “While I do believe that this will wear itself down as a matter of time, all power being limited, let’s make them work for it. However, I want to keep the majority of us rested and waiting for when it does come down.”

Zinkenite's order did turn the general's head, but the expression on his face was one of obvious disdain for what he was hearing. In his crazed state, anyone who wasn't clawing on the shield with him was a personal insult. Hematite began to turn away and made a show of rolling his eyes. He coughed again and peppered the ground with more bloody saliva. Under his breath, he muttered something that sounded like: "Thank you General-King Obvious."

He couldn't slow down for long or the exhaustion would set in. As Zinkenite gave Howlite her orders, Hematite went back to hacking away at the barrier and howling at the trapped senshi and knights.

"THIS ISN'T BARREN PINES, YOU ********! YOU'VE BARELY SLOWED US DOWN!" He continued to bang the sword against the barrier. "YOU'RE ALL GOING TO DIE AGAIN, YOU AND EVERY ALLY YOU LURED TO THEIR DEATHS HERE! IT'S OVER!"

Sailor Chibi Hygiea had stayed out of the way as best she could, even though she didn't really want to. She liked to fight, but so much going on around it was hard to figure out what to do. Healing didn't even seem pratical once the barrier went down and all hell went loose. Best to save it, probably for later probably.

But now, the senshi were being called. Closing their eyes, to help with this new barrier. To believe. The little senshi of herbs found her eyes closing. There was a lot she believed in, so she focused on those. Pulling those beliefs to help defend and save... whatever they were defending and saving.
