Her face softened and her eyes got watering. Around the middle of the story, silent tears were falling down her cheeks. She had remembered the tale of the Montgomery boy. Had read it a few times. She couldn't imagine how that must have felt. Watching others die right before your eyes and then you living and wondering how it would have been if you had been in another boy's shoes.
She was sobbing by the end and was fighting to control her emotions. Of course she wouldn't tell anybody. Never in a million years would she dream of telling anybody. Now, she would be able to help him though. Be able to make it easier on him. Especially by not scheduling practices near the full moon. Look how that had ended up. Her yelling at him the first time and then him getting hurt the second time.
She finally knew his secret. She had known there had been one, but hadn't thought it was this huge. The real reason for his homeschooling and the real reason behind him sneaking around. Now she felt terrible for yelling at him, taking points away, and ignoring him for all that time. She felt terrible. If only she had known. She nodded and the Headmistress and said, "I'll never tell a soul." It was barely more than a whisper.
Fionna stood up and headed out of the office and back into the hospital wing. She stood for a moment before approaching Lucas. She stood awkwardly for a moment in silence. Then she found her voice and said, "I guess I know your secret now. Hadn't ever imagined this." She took a peek at him as she said this.

Lucas couldn't find his voice for a little while. He wanted to just run and hide and never have to see the light of day or anyone's face ever again. But he couldn't do that, heck he could barely stand up as of right now. When he did find his voice, he choked out;
"Yeah...guesso." He took a deep breath and stared at the cieling, not daring to look into her eyes. If they were filled with hatred, anger, pity...he didn't think he could bear it. Or sadness.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you." He said as quickly as he could with his throat so tight. "I wanted to, I seriously considered it, but...my parents'd murder me and I told Headmistress..." He looked towards to door of the office and saw that Professor Nikolai was still inside it. "I told her I wouldn't tell anyone. And after all she'd done, lying on my behalf, getting the Wolfsbane, arranging for me to come here...I couldn't betray her trust like that...and...I dunno, I'm sorry..." He was shaking a bit again, more ashamed than anything that she knew and saw him like this.

Lucas was avoiding looking at her. She listened to him before saying, "It's alright. I understand. Just, the shock of finding out caused me to burst a bit." That was partly true. She had practically screamed at them both. A small smile played at her lips. "I'm glad I know now though." She admitted. It was true. She had hated being out of the loop she realized. She never knew what was going on and looking back she hated herself for doing some things that she had. It had probably made things much worse on him.
She thought for a moment before continuing, "You were right not to tell me I guess. It shows you won't betray somebody no matter how hard it is." She smiled slightly again with that familiar twinkle in her eye. She admired how brave Lucas was. Taking on the full moon every month all by himself, but she still thought of him as Lucas. The conversation they had in the library came back to her suddenly.

Lucas just nodded solemnly at first, but he couldn't help but smile at the twinkle in her eye. Well, now she knew. She knew why he ruffled his hair to make the grey not show. She knew the tiny things, and now...
"That's why Rhi came at me." He said, almost to himself. It just felt good actually saying it now, with someone to listen.
"Because she'd wanted to kiss another monster, someone else who had the joy of a cursed life."
His hands clenched around the sheets for a moment into fists, but it was too much effort and he just let go and sank into the pillows.
"Thanks, thought." He said sincerely after a short pause. "For taking away those points, for doing what you did. Because as odd as it is to say it..." He struggled as he tried to find the right words to say. "....i guess it was nice to just have finally been treated like a normal student who broke the rules. Get the same punishment. No pity from anyone, and then again not being shunned for what I am, but for what I did. I rather be ignored for sneaking out late at night than for being a werewolf any day." He said, looking content and sincere. As much as he hated Fionna ignoring him, he saw now that it gave him the chance to just be normal. To feel normal heartbreak, normal loss. What life was like if you broke rules, no one knowing what you really are. As cruel as it could be, it was refreshing from what he had been used to.

She waited for him to finish. She was shocked that he thanked her for doing those things. She personally hated herself for doing them. It was the past though. Nothing could be changed. The thing about Rhi made sense, but Fionna truly didn't want to talk about that retched girl right now. Fionna moved and put her hand on one of Lucas' as she looked him in the eye. "I want you to know, that finding out doesn't change anything. If at all, it helps me understand you better. I'm less confused and all the questions that have been running through my head have, for the most part, been answered." She told him honestly and seriously.
She thought again about him thanking her and she said, "Well your welcome I guess. I actually feel terrible for doing that now, but if it helped then maybe I should do it again." A mischievous grin appeared on her face before she turned her head around and hummed to herself before giggling at her terrible joke. It was her sad attempt at pretending to ignore him. She turned back with a happy grin on her face.

Lucas nodded as she spoke and laughed a bit at her joke. She knew the perfect things to say and the perfect moments to say them. How to make him laugh, and how to break his heart. And it didn't look like the latter was going to happen again too soon. And now she knew all about him, and he found that he wanted to know more about her. He noticed she had said for the most part. Before speaking he took a deep breath though and managed to actually sit up a bit straighter without wincing too noticeably. That fall must've seriously done some damage...
"For the most part?" He asked. "Which ones haven't been answered then?" He asked, truly sincere. He took her hand closest to him and held it in his. Their fingers intertwined, he looked up at her with his dull, empty eyes and the dark circles underneath. "I'll answer any question you have." He said fervently. "I won't keep any more secrets from you, Fionna. None, no matter what."

It warmed her. The contact of their hands. Fionna watched as he sat up carefully. She would have helped him, but didn't want to risk hurting him since he already seemed to wince a little bit. He was probably holding it back not wanting her to see how much pain the fall had really caused.
The one question that she really wanted to ask was urging her to ask him. She wanted to know so bad, but should she? Would it be a silly question, and what if he didn't like her that way? He might laugh at her for thinking it. She took a deep breathe and decided that she would regret it if she didn't ask. He promised to be honest, so if the answer was no then she would be able to move on and stop wondering. Fionna took a deep breathe and said, "The one big question is..." She took a small pause, "Do you by any chance, like me as more than just a friend?" She asked him. The blush got deeper a little embarrassed at having actually asked it and she looked away.

Lucas flushed at her question too, but didn't let go of her hand. When she turned away, he just had to do something. He'd basically lost the ability to speak since she asked that, his heart was leaping in his throat now... He let go of her hand and put both his hands gently on her shoulders and turned her flushed face towards him. This would be his first real kiss, he decided as he leaned in towards her and kissed her the opposite of how Rhiannon had kissed him. She'd been harsh and forceful and lustful, so he'd do the opposite. He was gentle and sweet and as passionate as he could be after falling 25 feet from the air. When he let her go a bit later, or a lot later, time was not important now, he smiled a bit.
"I hope that answered your question." He was still flushing a bit, not quite sure if he should've been that bold or not. Still, he didn't get the feeling that she had asked that to taunt him. He really, really liked her...now the moment of truth, did she like him just as much? It seemed that way considering that she didn't care about his... condition. But he waited an eternity for her reply.

He was quiet for a while and it scared her that he didn't feel that way. It seemed like eternity before he finally did something. She felt his hands on her shoulders and as he gently turned her head she allowed him. She looked him in the eyes and was taken off guard when he kissed her. He actually kissed her. It ended too soon. She wished it would have gone on forever.
She smiled at him. Grinned really. "Yes, Yes it does." She said pleased. Honestly, just by the fact that she was grinning and hadn't pushed him away it was probably pretty obvious she felt the same way, but she felt the need to say something. She took his hand again and said, "I love you." A tiny blushed appeared on her cheeks as she said this, not sure why it appeared. She wasn't embarrassed at saying it.

Lucas flushed a bit, but his smile was so warm it could've melted an entire freezer. He hadn't heard those three words spoken to him ever since he got his bite. His parents vowed they could never love a monster, and she was the first one to say it here at Hogwarts. Then the four word reply, he hadn't said in just as long.
"I love you, too."
Had the words actually just been spoken? Yes they had. Had he seriously just found someone to love in what had been over 7 years? Yep. He could not have felt lighter if he was the thinnest feather. He was on a cloud, the highest cloud above the bluest sky where no curse would touch him. He felt dazed again, but not in a bad way. Not at all. He smiled a bit wider, barely containing his happiness and joy.
Proved you wrong, mum. He thought. Finally, after all these years. I proved you so, so wrong.

It made her very happy to hear them come from his voice. Still holding Lucas' hand, Fionna slowly crawled onto the bed with Lucas. She was careful not to push or shove him so that she wouldn't injure him at all. The smile on her face showed how happy she was and she settled down on the bed and carefully let her head rest on Lucas' shoulder. She whispered to him, "I promise things are going to get even better." An idea had formed in her head, but she wouldn't spoil it. It was going to be a surprise.
Fionna couldn't believe everything that had happened tonight. Lucas had gotten injured. She had found out his secret. And she had gotten him as a boyfriend. She could say that couldn't she? Yes. She definitely could. Nothing could bring her mood down. She had a feeling this mood would last a long while yet.

Lucas was almost sure that nothing could get better with her by his side, but he didn't argue the point. Instead he snuggled up against her, her head on his shoulder. He didn't really feel so badly injured anymore and felt much better now that he was with Fionna, which he was sure he'd never get over and be bragging about till the day of his life, that he had kissed the most beautiful girl on the face of this earth. Possibly the most hideous too, but whatever about that, it didn't matter anymore. But it wasn't just going to be one, no he felt like this was going to last a while and he was looking forward to it.
He took a quick sip of a potion on the bedside table that Professor Nikolai had left, it was strengthening solution and with that, he should feel better in the morning. He kissed Fionna goodnight on her warm forehead and let her soft hair graze his cheek ever so slightly as she breathed in an out. He began to doze off a bit too, tired from the events of the day, but praying that when he woke up, it would still be that this was reality.

Headmistress Lillian Van Nikolai
It had gone quite silent, so Lillian went out to see that Lucas was alright and Fionna was in the common room. But no, there they were, their expressions of complete bliss as they dozed off, her head on his shoulder. Like a flashback, she remembered her two close friends and colleages, Professor Epithia and Professor Akahana in a similar position. Though Professor Epithia had been hurt much worse than Lucas, is still brought her back. Sweet memories...
She took the blankets at their feet and gently pulled it over them so it reached Fionna's chin and Lucas's shoulders. These two, Rose, and her own daughter. The trouble they got in and out of was incredible, and she trusted the four of them with the secret of Rhiannon, two of them with what Lucas was...still, the secret about Lucas couldn't get spread around, she had enough to deal with as of now, she didn't want more suffering on her hands. She looked down at them fondly, then swept to her office to sleep herself.

Headmistress Lillian Van Nikolai
Lillian opened her eyes to find a letter attached to the leg of a very haugty looking owl on her desk. Lucas and Fionna must still be asleep. She opened the letter quietly and the bird took off without a sound.
Dear Headmistress,
It is to my dissapointment that I must inform you that Rhiannon's life seems to be coming to a close. It is true, she was put in here for mere punishment, but she has been refusing to eat and hasn't had more than a few spoonfulls of nourishment since Thursday or Friday.
Here, they neglected to tell Lillian about Rhiannon's father, but they didn't need to worry her any further, her hands were already shaking plenty, with anger and grief.
Yesterday, Tuesday, she was handcuffed in her cage and forced to eat something, but she spit the food into our Ministry official's eye. Quite a temper- she says she won't die, if she does it's her choice. We know she has had unicorn blood that will keep her from dieing if she's on the edge, but she is dangerously approaching that edge. Any suggestions are welcome, as it would ruin our good name is she passed away in these walls at only 14.

Here, listed a few ministry officials. Lillian's hands stopped shaking, she threw the letter down on her desk and it didn't float in the breeze like paper does, it was like it was weighted and crashed to the desk, holding all her worst fears with it. She didn't cry, she just clenched her jaw and closed her eyes and buried her face in her hands.

Her sleep had been a peaceful bliss of happy dreams. Upon first returning to wakefulness, Fionna thought last night had all been a dream. It was too good to be true, but when her eyes fluttered open she realized it had been reality. She was laying in the hospital bed with Lucas with her head on his chest. She slowly sat up so as to not disturb his slumber. He needed his sleep because of the fall he took yesterday.
Fionna yawned deeply as her mind recalled all the events from yesterday. She now knew Lucas' secret and were finally a couple. She smiled at the thought. She wanted to get up and talk to the Headmistress. She saw a light on in the office. Fionna slowly eased her way out of the blankets and out of the bed. She looked at Lucas laying there in his sleep looking so peaceful and at ease. She rarely had seen him look so relaxed that she couldn't help but stare at him for a few moments. Fionna then turned and slowly made her way to the office where she rapped lightly on the door.
