♟♞ ♝ ♜ ♛ Ҝәɖʁϊϲҝ Ś. Śűѿą & Ďȋɱȋŧʁȋ Ĵ. ᾟűηŧȇʁ ♛ ♜ ♝ ♞ ♟ Kedrick continued to quietly watch Dimitri and his exchange with Maria's family from a distance. He wanted to go over and help him, but he knew it would stretch Dimitri and be good for him to handle this on his own. He sighed softly, having already emptied his hands, he searched for something else to do. Dimitri smiled Maria, canting his head slightly to the side. "Don't worry about it, they're not that bad." He said, bumping her shoulder gently. It was reassuring in a nice kind of way. Yes, Dimitri had been made terribly uncomfortable by Maria's brothers, but once he had gotten over being so nervous, around them at least, he hoped that the three of them could be friends. Dimitri looked up at Maria's mother, shocked by the similarities between mother and daughter. He smiled meekly at Mrs. Vázquez, she seemed very nice, and Dimitri found it hard to be intimidated by her. "It's a pleasure to meet you Mrs. Vázquez" He said, trying his hardest to keep his voice steady and praying he had pronounced her name right. He smiled awkwardly as she apologized for her son's behavior, and murmured a quiet 'it's no problem really.'
Dimitri's heart caught in his throat as Mr. Vázquez approached them, this was the encounter that had been haunting his mind for the past few weeks. Ever since he had realized how much he had come to care for Maria in fact. He stood tensely as Mr. Vázquez looked him over with a penetrating gaze and then said something softly to his daughter in Spanish. This made him even more uncomfortable, he had no clue what they were saying. For all he knew, Mr. Vázquez could have decided right then and there that he didn't want Maria anywhere near him.
For some reason, when Maria's fingers brushed against his, it made his panic skyrocket. Now he was standing here alone, in front of one of the most intimidating men he had ever met. Dimitri swallowed stiffly, trying to squash out his panic although it wasn't working. "Y-yes sir..." He said meekly, ducking his head.

Arielle Shore
"Oh what could papá want from Dimitri?" Maria asked herself worriedly as she made her way back to Arielle and her mother. She knew that he probably had the best intentions for him, but she was so worried how Dimitri was taking it. He had never met her father and it wasn't like him to start off introductions with his cop face on. Could he have already figured out that she had an interest in Dimitri? Sure she had talked about him on the phone with Arielle after every date they had, but she never thought he'd really pay attention. She knew he was going to meet him sometime, but she always imagined that she'd be beside Dimitri, holding onto his hand and being all the support he needed.
She felt an arm around her shoulder and looked up and noticed that it was Ulises. She sighed and looked away. "What is it that you want, Ulises?" She was expecting him to start messing with her again about her sleep talking habits, but when she didn't hear a comical retort leave his mouth soon after, she looked up at him curiously.
"No need for you to be fretting about this, Ria," Ulises said kindly, a gentle smile on his face. Her brothers knew when to be there for her when she needed them to be. "Dad's been waiting for this day every since you came home two weeks ago singing a Spanish love ballad and had this dreamy look in your eye."
Maria looked at her brother curiously, wondering how exactly her father found out she was in love and not just being her goofy self. Then again, like her, her father was really good at paying attention to some of the smaller unimportant things that others would over look. "I still can't help but worry," she said quietly before she felt a hand on her head, glancing over to see that her other brother came over.
"Stop worrying, Ria," Eneas said with a smile, "Our future brother-in-law is so going to pass dad's interrogation. If we already like him, mom already approved of him, and we know how you feel, dad has no choice but to approve of our future brother-in-law."
Maria smiled, feeling somewhat reassured by her brothers' words when she realized that Dimitri was already addressed as their "future brother-in-law". She broke away from them and looked at them hotly, her hands on her hips. "Y-Y-You can't already start calling someone your future whatever when you barely know them at all," Maria hissed at them, not sure why she was getting so upset over that. She had never thought that far into the future about her relationship with Dimitri, especially since he hadn't even asked her out. Could such a thing be possible with him? Would he still love her for all those years and be willing to start a family with her? Her mind couldn't even process that at that moment. She still had to worry about finishing high school and college and what dress to wear for her Junior prom.
With a sigh, she crossed her arms and her eyes scanned until she found Kedrick. Feeling relieved that there was someone sane besides her mother and Arielle, she went over to her friend and hugged him. "Just how long were you going to avoid me, Kedrick?" Maria asked with a smile, "I know Arielle was planning for you to meet my mother and give her a tour. This is a big day and you're not even talking with the guest. Shame on you."
Mr. Vázquez walked slowly, his feet crunching softly against the gravel. He couldn't help but admire the wonderful day and think that Arielle and her friend, Kedrick, had chosen a wonderful day to hold their celebratory barbeque. His eyes glanced over at the young man who was walking beside him, his head low. There was no denying the fact that he could see how nervous he was.
After a couple of seconds, he cleared his throat, getting Dimitri's attention. "So, how long have you know my daughter?" Mr. Vázquez asked simply, thinking it would be easier to begin with a question like that. "And where did you meet her?"
After Arielle brought Maria's mom over to her grandmother so that the two women could catch up, she escorted her best friend's mom over to Kedrick and Maria who already seemed to be in a conversation. As they were walking over, she waved to Maria's brothers again who had once again started a huge debate about which soccer player was the best. "Glad to see that you're finally free," Arielle said with a sweet smile, "Kedrick Suwa, this is Maria's mother, Mrs. Vázquez. Mrs. Vázquez, this is Kedrick."
"Otherwise known as Arielle's boyfriend and husband to be," Maria said teasingly, finding it ironic that she was making marriage jokes with her best friend, but when her brothers did that to her, she was downright embarrassed. She was glad Eneas and Ulises didn't hear that or they would soon be messing with poor Arielle and Kedrick as well. She looked over at Arielle who was just smiling shyly, a blush appearing quickly on her cheeks.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Kedrick," Mrs. Vázquez said with a warm smile, holding her hand out for a handshake, "It's great to finally meet the man who helped out in that entire Jonesy ordeal. It brings me great joy to know that my daughter and her best friend, who I also view as my own daughter, have a young man like you to look out for them. So you have my thanks for all that you've done."

♟♞ ♝ ♜ ♛ Ҝәɖʁϊϲҝ Ś. Śűѿą & Ďȋɱȋŧʁȋ Ĵ. ᾟűηŧȇʁ ♛ ♜ ♝ ♞ ♟ Kedrick smiled broadly when Maria came over and started teasing him about being antisocial. The young man nudged her lightly. "Oh come on Maria I'm not that bad, besides, I had to keep an eye on Dimitri." He said, lowering his voice slightly and placing a hand on her shoulder. He had watched the man and his friend disappear around the corner of the house a moment ago, and he was rather worried. "I seemed to notice that he doesn't handle meeting people well..."
Kedrick looked up as Arielle approached with Maria's mother, waving, his smiled widening. "Hey Arielle," He said, his fingers brushing against her's for a moment before he looked up at Mrs. Vázquez. He nodded politely to her "It's a pleasure to meet you ma'am and it's been," He hesitated slightly as he looked over at Maria before his face cracked into a grin. "It's been quite a wild ride getting to know your daughter." He joked lightly. Dimitri shuffled his feet against the gravel, his head still lowered but it snapped up quickly at his question. 'It wasn't the worst thing he could ask...' Dimitri thought to himself, 'at least it isn't anything too personal.' The only problem was, Dimitri had drawn a complete blank. He couldn't think of anything to do with when or how he and Maria had met. Dimitri scrambled for an intelligible train of thought. His mind too him back to their first 'appointment' two weeks ago, but that wasn't the first time they had met. "W-we met two or three months ago..." He said uncertainly, reflecting on the dance several moths ago. Dimitri fumbled with Mr. Vázquez's next question. "You know Arielle don't you sir?" He asked, his voice slightly husky and he cleared in nervously. "Her- Arielle I mean, her boyfriend Kedrick, well...He's my best friend sir, we've know each other for years now...Maria and I were introduced as mutual friends...Arielle and Kedrick being together all the time like they are, it made sense that Maria and I saw a lot of each other...soon we started haging out, s-semi frequently..." He stammered softly, looking up at Mr. Vázquez who happened to be considerably taller than himself.

Maria nodded at Kedrick's comment about Dimitri not handling meeting people well. She wish she had prepped him with how to deal with her family, especially her brothers, but the thought never came to her. Now she was waiting, worrying about how his conversation with her father was going. She tried not to look too tense as her mother was talking with Kedrick. She grinned at Kedrick's joke and giggled.
"When has being around Maria not been a wild ride?" Arielle asked with a smile, giggling as Maria playfully tackled her. She looked over at Kedrick, her smile still on her face. "I was hoping that you would introduce Maria and her mother to your family. Maria's already met Athena, but Athena's now with Raine. Poor girl got shy when Mr. Vázquez's men came."
"They sure do seem to be having a lot of fun," Maria said cheerfully, noticing how a few of them were in conversations with each other, her brothers, or even Arielle's grandparents. She couldn't help but love the mood that was present around them, minus her worrying for Kedrick. "But please, introduce us to the rest of your family. I'd love to meet the whole gang."
"Maria has told me that you have seven sisters," Mrs. Vázquez said, "How can you handle so many sisters and be the only boy in the family? Have you ever wished for having any other brothers?"
Mr. Vázquez listened to Dimitri's explanation of how he met his daughter. At the mention of the man's knowledge of Arielle, he nodded, a small smile coming across his face that softened his serious look. He noticed that the four children had something in common, they were each best friends with the other, boys and girls of course. He nodded again, finding sense in what Dimitri said on how his daughter would have spent so much time with him as well as Arielle and Kedrick.
When he stopped saying something, Mr. Vázquez took the time to think of another question. Ever since Maria had come home singing a love ballad, which was something she rarely did, he became interested in the young man who was responsible for making his daughter feel that way. He stopped walking and took a deep breath before looking at Dimitri. "How serious are you about my daughter?" he asked simply, "I've noticed that my daughter has been spending a lot of time with you and she's always so happy before she leaves and when she's home. But I wanted to know myself, man to man because I want what's best for my little girl."

♟♞ ♝ ♜ ♛ Ҝәɖʁϊϲҝ Ś. Śűѿą & Ďȋɱȋŧʁȋ Ĵ. ᾟűηŧȇʁ ♛ ♜ ♝ ♞ ♟ Kedrick looked over his shoulder at Maria, Arielle, and Mrs. Vázquez as he lead them towards some of his sister. "I guess so," He said thoughtfully, in response to her question about wishing for a brother. "When I was a little kid that is, but I have Dimitri now, and he's the best brother and friend I could ask for." He said with a smile, turning forward again. Now with Dimitri on his mind, he wondered how the young man was fairing with Mr. Vázquez out in the parking lot.
Kedrick looked up, seeing Samiki standing with Kyla, Keira, Athena and Rain. Gewn wasn't too far away and had her hand on little Terra's back, leading her out of the food line, both of them holding paper plates. He smiled brightly, it never failed to make him smile to see all his sisters in one place. "Gwen, Terra!" He called, "Come over here, there's some people I want you to meet!" Kedrick saw the two girls coming over to join the gaggle of his other sisters. He walked Maria, Arielle and Mrs. Vázquez over to them. "Hey everyone, I want you to meet Arielle's best friend Maria and her mother Mrs. Vázquez." He introduced.
Kyla, socially unaware and slightly impudent as always, stepped forward. "How do you say that?" She asked, cocking her head to the side, her dark blond bangs falling over her eyes before she huffed them out of the way. "Is it Vah-quezzz or Veh-Q'z?" Kyla asked before Keira elbowed her.
"Not polite Kyla." The Gothic young girl said quietly, once again, her voice softer than the others might have expected.
Kyla looked over and stuck her tongue out at Keira, who pulled back, looking affronted.
Sakimi sighed, the resemblance between her and Keira was striking. "Come on you two. Good first impression? Please?" She asked with a sigh, her eyes drifting closed before quickly opening them again and looking up at the two women she was being introduced too. She smiled thinly, resting a hand on her hip. "Arielle's friend huh? Nice to meet you." She paused a moment and looked at Mrs. Vázquez. "Mrs., it's a pleasure." Kyla stifled a giggle, her hand flying up to quickly cover her mouth. Sakimi looked down at her with a poisonous look. "What?" She asked coolly.
Kyla couldn't help herself, bursting out laughing. "Y-You're such a stiff!" She cried delightedly, gasping for air as she laughed. She regained her composure quickly, drawing herself up to her full, and not too considerable height. "It's a pleasure." She mocked in a high-pitched tone. Kyla ducked her head as Sakimi smacked at her.
Athena laughed softly, resting a hand over he mouth. "I-I'm sorry about them." She apologized though giggles. Dimitri overshot Mr. Vázquez by a step and before realizing he had stopped. He took a step backwards and turned to face him, his face even paler than normal. Dimitri took a deep breath, wetting his lips nervously. "I-" He started uncertainly, taking a deep breath and willing his voice to be steady. He knew he loved Maria, he had know it for a long time now, but how could he be truly serious about her if he was going to keep secrets from her. For a second, his mask slipped and horrific images filled his mind from his past, flashing past so quickly he didn't have time to fully grasp them. It made his heart stop and his eyes flicker with panic. Dimitri took a breath quickly, swallowing and realizing that now was the worst time to get stuck in a flashback of sorts, he had to pull himself together. "I care about you're daughter very deeply..." He started hesitantly. "M-more than I can really put into words...I-I love her sir..." He said softly, finally daring to look up and look Mr. Vázquez square in the eyes.

Mr. Vázquez waited patiently, once again observing Dimitri's actions. He wondered if he could have been more relaxed with the boy so he wouldn't feel so scared of him, but he still wanted to make sure he could leave his daughter in the hands of this young man. There was a moment when he seemed terrified of something, but he calmed himself down before finishing his answer. He looked back at the young man as he finally looked him in the eyes and he saw the truth of his words, no matter how nervous he was acting.
After some more silence, Mr. Vázquez looked away and sighed, a warm smile appearing on his face. He was sure Dimitri would wonder what was making him smile the way he did. He walked over to Dimitri and laid a hand on his shoulder. "Well my boy," Mr. Vázquez said, his voice returning a more light and cheerful tone, "I'm glad to say you passed my test. I've known about you for awhile actually, young man. Starting from two weeks ago when I spotted you with my daughter. I always say my daughter gets her curiosity from me and no one else in the family. I know my daughter to be interested in different boys, but nothing like this. I was finally seeing my little girl in love. With each passing day, I wanted to meet the young man who was making my daughter this happy, and I'm glad I got the chance to."
He remembered not too long ago when he had asked Maria who on her friends' side were coming to Arielle's celebration barbeque. He had listened intently to the people she had listed, and when the name "Dimitri" came up, there was a certain way she said it, a certain look in her eye that confirmed the questioning father at that time just how serious she was about him. Before he met Dimitri close up, he always saw him in a distance whenever he saw Maria go out of the house or come home. When they finally arrived and Maria was saying hello to Arielle and some other kids, he knew that the black haired young man was Dimitri, the young man who had his daughter's heart.
"So," Mr. Vázquez started, "Now that this whole intimidating thing is over, there are two things I must let you know. The first is that you have my blessing to ask my daughter out, if you are as serious about her as you say. I have no reason to doubt your word, but as I said before, I only wanted what's best for my little girl," he paused and removed his hand from Dimitri's shoulder, holding it out to him, "And that I have yet to introduce myself. I am Mr. Vincente Vázquez but you may call me Mr. Vázquez or Mr. Vincente, whatever you prefer the most."
He smiled in the most friendliest way so that he could relax Dimitri. "Now.... Isn't there a certain someone you need to go speak to right now? I'm sure she's just as worried about this conversation as you were, and it's no good making her wait at all."
"He must really mean a lot to you," Mrs. Vázquez said with a soft smile, "But then again, all best friends are like that. Take Arielle and Maria for example. Two peas in a pod, barely inseparable, and look how they've turned out today."
Both girls smiled brightly, their arms wrapped around each other's shoulders to prove Mrs. Vázquez's point. They giggled and let go as soon as they were close to Kedrick's sisters. It didn't surprise Arielle, as much as it did Maria, to see all of Kedrick's sisters right there, so easy for them to be introduced to.
When they were introduced, Maria waved slightly to all of them. When Kyla asked about the pronunciation of their last name, Maria almost responded when her older sister soon spoke up. She smiled, nodding and returning a "Nice to meet you too".
Mrs. Vázquez smiled and found herself laughing lightly as well. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well. Although, you have yet to meet the "horror" that are my sons. But it is wonderful to finally meet you young ladies. May I ask for your names though?" she paused and looked at Kyla with a warm smile, "I already know that you're Kyla since your older sister said your name. And you were close with the pronunciation. It goes Vase, an AH sound, and then quez, like in queso. I do hope that helps you and your sisters pronounce or last names. However, if you still have trouble saying them, you can call me Mrs. V or Mrs. Ivelisse."

♟♞ ♝ ♜ ♛ Ҝәɖʁϊϲҝ Ś. Śűѿą & Ďȋɱȋŧʁȋ Ĵ. ᾟűηŧȇʁ ♛ ♜ ♝ ♞ ♟ Kyla frowned slightly, trying the pronounciation on her tongue. "Vase a' quez...." She tried, still looking thoughtful, then she looked up, beaming brightly. "Okay, I've got it." She said with a smile.
Athena stepped forward, her hands folded in front of her. "Mrs. Vázquez, My name is Athena, this is my older sister Sakimi," She said, gesturing to her elegant older sister who smiled thinly and nodded her head. Athena turned her attention to the rather opposite twins. "and my younger sisters, Keira, Gwen, of course Kyla," Athena nodded to the girl with the boyish hair cut and the wide mischievous grin. "And my youngest sisters Raine and Terra. Kedrick falls between Sakimi and I age-wise in case you were wondering." She finished with a sheepish smile. Dimitri blinked, relieved, and, over all, confused by Mr. Vázquez's smile. He felt heat wash over his spine and his breath catch in his throat as Mr. Vázquez laid a hand on his shoulder. Dimitri didn't appreciate being touched by any guy. Correction, Dimitri hadn't when he was young, but that was before Jared, and now even just a touch on the shoulder made his skin crawl. Kedrick was the rare exception to this, and that was simply because he was Kedrick, he had been the one to take him away from all that. Dimitri tried to relax his shoulders, but his mind and muscles didn't seem to want to work together, and they stayed taunt and stiff under the man's hand. He swallowed uncertainly, trying to focus on what Mr. Vázquez was saying to him about him being allowed to ask out Maria. He tried to make it the only thought in his mind, but he wasn't doing very well with that.
Dimitri took a breath, trying to keep his usual calm demeanor. He hesitated, looking down at Mr. Vázquez's outstretched hand. To forestall any suspicions, Dimitri reached out, shaking his hand and managing a weak smile. "Yes Sir..." He said softly, once again looking up at him. "A-and thank you...for..well," He hesitated, rubbing the back of his neck. "For giving my permission...oh" He looked up again, shifting uncomfortably. "P-please don't tell Maria yet, I...I haven't told her...you know...how I feel about her..." Dimitri smiled meekly.

"You're still kinda off with the pronunciation, Kyla," Maria said with a giggle, "But it takes practice. Most Hispanic names, first or last, are hard to pronounce. Especially when there are a bunch of accents in most names. And then you have to count for the rolling of the "r"s for some of them. But that's enough of my lecture on Spanish names. Don't want to bore you to tears or anything."
Mrs. Vázquez listened as Athena introduced all of her siblings, matching each name said to each face that the name belonged to. When Athena mentioned where Kedrick was placed in the order of siblings age wise, it made her wonder what their age differences were, but now wasn't the time to ask silly questions like that. "You have such a beautiful family," Mrs. Vázquez said once Athena was finished, "And I am very glad I got to meet all of you."
What's taking you so long? Maria thought worriedly, trying not to show her concern on her face. Dimitri and her father had been in their conversation for about fifteen minutes, which wasn't a long amount of time, but it felt like fifteen hours to her. The more time passed, the more she worried inwardly, hoping that Dimitri would be fine and that her father wasn't scaring him away.
Mr. Vázquez noticed how tense Dimitri felt when he placed his hand on his shoulder. He wondered if maybe the young man was still worried about how he was acting towards him earlier, or maybe thought that he was going to give some ridiculous threat. He never would've thought there was a deeper meaning to that small exchange. However, he didn't think much of it as the boy shook his hand and spoke again. He chuckled softly when Dimitri had asked him not to tell his daughter how he felt, nodding to his request and started walking back. "You don't have to worry about me doing that," Mr. Vázquez said with a smile, "It's not my responsibility to open up my heart to her. That's all up to you young man. And no need to thank me about the permission. It's not everyday I come across a young man whom I see hanging out with my daughter that I like, and you're one of the first."

"It's a pleasure to meet you as well, meybe you could introduce us to these 'terrors' you call your sons some time." She said with a smile, so Mrs. Vázquez knew she meant no harm.
Kedrick smiled at his siblings, reaching out and tousling Kyla's hair. "You know Kyla?" He asked, crouching down in front of her, a hand still on her head. "I think you and Maria'll get along just fine, you're kind of similar in a way."
Kyla blinked, looking up at Maria and cocking her head to the side. "You think?" She asked curiously, then seemed to come to a decision. "Yeah, I guess, in a way maybe...but there's one reeeeeeally big difference."
Kedrick smirked, looking back at Maria. "Oh? And what's that."
"Simple, I'm not in love. She is."
Kedrick blinked in sunrise, doing a double take between Kyla and Maria. How had she been able to tell?
Kyla smiled knowingly, seeming to guess his question. "She's got that funny look in her eyes, you know, kinda like when you and Arielle look at each other, I dunno who it is, but she's crazy about someone." She announced with a smile. Dimitri blinked in surprise, a hint of a smile on his lips. 'He likes me?' he thought incredulously, it was better than he could have hoped for. Dimitri was thinking that, best case scenario, He would forbid him ever to see his daughter again, not to mention hating his guts. But, he could be seeing something more opposite, He had given him permission to ask Maria out, he seemed almost friendly now, and he liked him! The hint of a smile grew, and he looked over at Mr. Vázquez, before quickly lowering his head again.
The two of them walked around the corner of the house and into the crowd of people that where gathered there. Dimitri spotted Maria, his small smile breaking into a grin. "Maria!" He called trotting over. He took her hand, giving it a gentle tug, almost like an excited child. "Maria, I have something I need to talk to you about." He hesitated slightly. "Now..." Dimitri finished. "N-not now, I mean, as soon as possible, but not here, you'll have to come with me." He said with a smile.

"Oh I'm sure they're around here somewhere," Mrs. Vázquez said with another light giggle, "They were a lot worse before they went to college. There wasn't a thing they wouldn't do, and they always dragged their baby sister into it. But I'm sure if you're interested in these mayhem stories, I could always tell you when I have time." Her eyes scanned for her sons, knowing they had to be somewhere around the backyard. Eventually she found her sons talking to Mrs. Fields. "Eneas! Ulises!" she called out, "Come over here and meet Kedrick's sisters!" She would have shouted to them in Spanish like she would have at home, but she knew that no one else but her family understood. She watched as they were finishing up their conversation with Mrs. Fields before walking over to where they were now. She looked at Athena with a smile, "Might as well meet these horrors now before they do something stupid and embarrass themselves."
Maria was starting to dread her brothers coming over. She knew it would be an introduction to her best friend's boyfriend's family, but they would do something stupid. However, she had more important things to worry about, which were about Dimitri. She had to resist every urge to look back every five seconds to see if they were coming. She blinked in surprise when Kedrick had told Kyla that they were somewhat similar. She titled her head lightly in confusion, trying to figure out why when she mentioned there was a big difference between the two of them. Now Maria would have thought that Kyla was going to mean the confusion of her last name compared to the simplicity of the last name, Suwa, but when she pointed out that Maria was in love, she couldn't help but find her eyes widen, her cheeks warming up.
"In love could be an understatement," Eneas said with a small smirk as they got closer, obviously hearing Kyla's comment, "Maybe a better word would be that she's infatuated with a special boy."
"And we can always tell you who it is," Ulises added with his own smirk, "She talks about him so much that we feel like we know him now. And if she's not talking about him on the phone with Ari here," he said, patting Arielle on the head, "You can hear her singing Spanish love songs and on the verge of spinning in circles."
Maria's cheeks never felt hotter and she was so close to going off on them when her mother beat her to it, telling them strictly in Spanish to stop messing with their sister. Maria didn't stop feeling embarrassed though. She was just glad that they didn't mention the whole sleep talking bit.
"Well, that's one way to show you're in love," Arielle said with a light smile. She had almost forgotten just how silly Maria's older brothers were, and at the same time, embarrassing. She walked over to Maria and nudged her gently, "Don't worry about what they say, you have a right to be happy when you're in love."
Maria looked at Arielle and smiled and was going to say something when she heard her name being called. The sound of Dimitri's voice made her heart leap and she finally looked back to see him coming over with her father. She was so happy right then that she could sigh in relief. She smiled shyly when he took her hand, even though he had done it before. When he said he had something to talk to her about, her mind was already running with many questions, wondering what he could possibly want to talk about. She tried not to think of anything that was bad, especially since he seemed so happy. She looked up and saw her father who gave her a small nod, a smile seen on his face. Looking back at Dimitri, she returned his smile with her own and nodded. "Lead the way then, Dimitri."
Arielle walked over to Kedrick and moved in closer to his ear. "You think he's going to ask her out now? It looks like he passed with Maria's father and I've never seen Mr. Vázquez so happy before," she said quietly, so that not the entire circle would know, even though it was apparent with the way Dimitri and Maria were acting. "Do you think it'll happen?"

♟♞ ♝ ♜ ♛ Ҝәɖʁϊϲҝ Ś. Śűѿą & Ďȋɱȋŧʁȋ Ĵ. ᾟűηŧȇʁ ♛ ♜ ♝ ♞ ♟ Kedrick smiled as Maria's brothers came over. He decided right away that he like these two, they where funny, and seemed smart, even if they did pick on Maria he could tell it was all in good fun. Kedrick looked forward to getting to know Eneas and Ulises better.
He blinked as he saw Dimitri dragging Maria away and an odd, stupid smile crossed his face. He stuffed his hands in his pockets, watching them go.
Sakimi looked at him, squinting. "What's the matter with you? You look stupid." She said with a wry smile.
"Oh, nothing." He said idly to her and then turned to Arielle. "I think you're right, DImitri about to pour his heart out, I'd love to see it but it'd be wrong to listen in. Dimitri took Maria's hand, pulling her away from the noise of the party. He took her to the edge of the yard where there was a small inlet into the trees near the back. It looked like the area had once been an apple orchard but it was overgrown and had an odd kind of beauty to it.
Dimitri turned to her quickly, dropping his hands uncertainly. "Okay, Maria, I have to get this out there right now. I-...." He paused, and faltered, collecting his thoughts and taking a deep breath. "D-do you remember that day at the hospital, when wwe got each other mad and jealous and then we talked, and cleared everything up and...and I told you that I cared about you?" He asked with an uncertain laugh. He stopped, stepping forward a pace, and looking at her urgently. "I've been think, and talking...to...to you're dad...and It's been so wonderful getting to know you, and...I...I have to tell you..." Dimitri took a deep breath. "I love you Maria, And it's not, it's not because of you're hands or your feet, or your hair..." He said softly, reaching out and running his hand gently down over her hair. "Or your eyes..." He murmured, his gaze locking with hers and he smiled almost sheepishly. "I love you...for who you are...for, how you can have fun with me, and laugh, and smile. For what you want to do and be...and for being a friend to me more than anything...." Dimitri trailed off, suddenly shy and his hand slowly slid from the side of her face. "I just...I pray you feel the same...not matter what might be wrong with me..."

Arielle Shore
"I guess this day wasn't just perfect for the barbeque, huh Kedrick?" Arielle asked with a smile, watching her friends walk away, "I think today was meant for something more special then that."
"So she's getting married early?" Eneas joked with a chuckle, "Dad, you gave Dimitri permission to marry Maria, didn't you?"
Mrs. Vázquez rolled her eyes, but Mr. Vázquez just chuckled softly, knowing his sons wouldn't leave the two alone for a long time. "If you're that concerned with what Dimitri and I talked about, Eneas," Mr. Vázquez said with a smile, "Then you can ask him once he's done talking with Maria."
"And what dad basically means, Eneas," Ulises added in with a smirk, "Is "Good luck trying to talk with Dimitri alone for five minutes". He's going to be around Maria the entire day."
Eneas paused, not saying anything before grinning. "So.... My answer is yes! I mean, he's basically our future brother in law now, maybe even our brother in law at this point."
Mrs. Vázquez only smiled and shook her head, "If you boys don't go and find something else better to do than mess with your sister's love life. Plus, it's too early to be talking about marriage for her. She's only sixteen."
Eneas and Ulises gave their mother this "So what?" look before laughing again.
"And this is how my sons are a horror," Mrs. Vázquez said with a light smile, "I'd find it a miracle if they ever settle down and had a family."
"Oh come on mom!" Eneas and Ulises shouted with another burst of laughter.
Arielle giggled herself, suddenly realizing how much she missed the normal antics of Maria's older brothers. She decided that it would be nice to visit Maria's family more often and spend time with them and maybe bring Kedrick along with her if he was interested.
Maria followed Dimitri as he led her away from the excitement of the barbeque to somewhere more private. As they got closer, she realized that she hadn't really seen the outside of Kedrick's estate the night that they had dinner. It really is a pretty spot, Maria thought with a small smile.
As Dimitri let go of her hand, all at once she felt her heart race. She felt so anxious at that moment, waiting for him to speak. She had to will herself to relax, to not mess with her fingers. Once he spoke, she paid close attention, just giving him all of her attention. She smiled lightly as he mentioned that day, which was strange how it was only about two weeks ago. From their misunderstanding to their planned meeting with Keon and Prim to today at the barbeque. So much had happened to their relationship in those two weeks, and each day with him only made her love for him grow stronger.
Maria had never felt happier as Dimitri had told her that he loved her and listed all the reasons why it wasn't something physical, like her hands or her hair. Her heart started racing and she looked back at him, a shy smile on her face. She had never felt so much joy from hearing anyone say that, and as his hand slid away, she took hold of it, squeezing his hand gently before gathering the courage to say what she had to say.
"You have no idea," Maria started, a light blush on her cheeks, "How long I've been waiting for this day, Dimitri. Being with you...around you has been... It's just been wonderful. And I do feel the same way about you... I always have... Probably I realized it when we were salsa dancing that one day. But, I love you Dimitri... I love you so much that, and I'm almost embarrassed to say it, but I sing when I'm at home. Every thought of you brings joy to my heart and I... Well... Yeah..."
She looked away from him, her cheeks getting hotter and she let go of his hand, finally finding herself embarrassed. She hadn't said anything about the final sentence he had said, but it made her wonder what he meant by that. "But I do feel the same way about you," she added with a smile, "But there's nothing wrong with you, Dimitri... Besides you being a flirt, there's nothing wrong with you. There can never be anything wrong with you in my eyes...." The last part was almost quiet as she realized how cheesy she sounded.
After a few more seconds of silence, she gave into her curiosity and looked up at him. "Why would you say there was something wrong with you, Dimitri?" she asked shyly, wishing that she hadn't asked that, feeling like it would all start to go downhill at that point. Stupid curiosity, she thought worriedly, I'll never forgive myself if I ruined this moment.
(Okay... There was a small grammar edit and then I added something else that I wanted to add beforehand, so here we go = w =.)

♟♞ ♝ ♜ ♛ Ҝәɖʁϊϲҝ Ś. Śűѿą & Ďȋɱȋŧʁȋ Ĵ. ᾟűηŧȇʁ ♛ ♜ ♝ ♞ ♟ Kedrick looked over at Arielle and reached out, taking her hand and squeezing it gently, her soft fingers feeling nice and warm against his. "I think today was planed for something much more special than just a picnic." He said, thinking of what Dimitri was doing now. Dimitri had experience with wrapping a girl around his finger, of course Maria was very different from those other girls. But still, He wondered just how different it would be from his own seemingly awkward love confession.
Kedrick found himself grinning broadly as Eneas and Ulises teased about Maria and Dimitri getting married. He realized now how much he wanted that to happen, he couldn't be happier with the match and he was sure seeing Dimitri and Maria getting married would be on of the best days of his life. 'except for maybe my wedding day...' he thought with a small smile. Dimitri listened anxiously, soaking every word she said. He rocked back and froth nervously, feeling almost as panicked as when he was talking to her father. If she said that she didn't feel the same then that was the end of it. It didn't matter if her father approved of him, if Maria didn't love him then that was it. The young man's heart soared so high when she told him that she loved him too that he almost forgot to listen to the rest of what she was saying. Dimitri blinked, bringing himself back to the present, smiling as she told him how she would sing when he dropped her off at her house. Dimitri realized he hadn't heard Maria sing before, he wanted to hear what she sounded like, but now wasn't the time.
Dimitri took an uncertain breath as the words 'but there's nothing wrong with you' fell on his ears. He smiled weakly. 'if only you knew Maria, but I can't tell you...not yet....I'm...I'm a coward and I can't help it...please forgive me...' He reached out, gently brushing her cheek with his fingertips, a small smile touching his lips. "Why?" He asked with a soft bark of a laugh. He took a deep breath, slowing letting hims palm rest on her cheek along with his fingertips. He didn't have to think very hard for excuses, he could think of several very true things right off the top of his head. "Maybe because I'm flirtatious, I made a lot of bad decisions when it came to love, I'm messy, I don't deserve some one as wonderful as you and I'm tactless enough to try something like this without permission." He said, and suddenly Maria felt warm lips over hers. Dimitri's hand slid to the back of her neck and he kissed her gently, a slight shiver running down his spine. He loved her, and he knew it, but he was too cowardly to tell her the truth.

Arielle Shore
Maria started to worry and was ready to apologize when Dimitri brushed her cheek so gentle that it sent shivers down her spine and looked at her with a smile that melted her heart. As he answered her question, a wave of relief went through her as she noticed that he didn't seem hurt at all by the question. She couldn't help but smile lightly as he answered her question. Even she had to agree she wasn't the most perfect girl in the world. She was a flirt sometimes, she used to have a thing for jocks, and she was just weird any other time. She was confused by the tactless thing until he kissed her, and then everything made sense. Her entire body felt weak but it didn't matter to her as she kissed him back. She didn't want that moment to end at all, she just wanted it to go on for as long as possible.
Eventually, Maria moved back, a lovesick smile on her face and her own hand resting on Dimitri's cheek. She looked at him with so much love and warmth in her eyes before she giggled lightly. "Well, if I'm your girlfriend," Maria said with a light smirk, "Then there really is no need to ask me to be kissed because there's never going to be a day when I don't want to be kissed by you, Dimitri."
"And I'm glad we're here for it," Arielle said with a smile, returning the gentle squeeze to Kedrick's fingers. She wished she could've seen how it was going, but she knew that everything had worked out in the end. Before anything else could be said, she heard the sound of her grandfather's voice letting everyone there now that the meat was grilled and ready to be eaten.
"Yes!" Ulises exclaimed happily, "It's been ages since we last had Arielle's grandfather's cooking. C'mon Eneas. We've got to beat dad's men to the line." Without needing to repeat himself, the two brothers hurried on there way to Arielle's grandfather like two excited children getting in a ride at a theme park. Mr. and Mrs. Vázquez laughed before excusing themselves, going over to the food table and also to go talk with Arielle's grandmother.
"This is the excitement people feel for my grandparent's cooking," Arielle said with a smile, "Somehow, I'm surprised they haven't opened up their own family restaurant."

♟♞ ♝ ♜ ♛ Ҝәɖʁϊϲҝ Ś. Śűѿą & Ďȋɱȋŧʁȋ Ĵ. ᾟűηŧȇʁ ♛ ♜ ♝ ♞ ♟ Kedrick grinned at Arielle, looping his arm through hers and linking their fingers together. "You know, if they did, I'd definitely be their first customer, and you'd help with the cooking I'm sure." He said with a soft laugh, starting to walk with her up towards the back porch where the grill was.
Kyla trotted over quickly to catch up with them, Raine in tow. "Ari," She asked, tugging on her free hand. "Are you're grandparents really that good at cooking, Sakimi's really bad at it, but she'll never admit it, she always burns stuff!"
Sakimi came up behind her, looking remarkably like a saber-toothed tiger with a wicked grin. "And what's this you're saying about me?" She prompted with an ominous smirk, placing a hand hard on the top of Kyla's head.
Kyla ducked, a similar wicked grin on her face. "Oh, nothing important, just that you're a horrible cook and always burn stuff."
"Kyla, don't be mean..." Raine said softly, her tiny hand squeezing her sister's. By now they had formed a kind of chain, Kedrick holding Arielle's hand, Kyla, her other. And Kyla had also seized Raine's who was now reaching out to tug on Sakimi's fingers. "Sakimi doesn't cook that badly, an I think Arielle's grandparents are wonderful..." She said softly, her voice dropping off at the end, seemingly embarrassed. Dimitri sighed softly, murmuring reluctantly as she pulled back. He didn't want her to go, he wanted to keep her right there, with him. He brushed back her hair from her face with a gentle touch, warmth flaring up in his chest, seeming to fill him right up. Dimitri sighed softly, a slow smile spreading across his face.
He listened to her every word, captivated as she told him that there wouldn't be a day when she didn't want to be kissed by him. "Hey," He said softly, his forehead still touching hers. "Does this mean that, now that you're my girlfriend, I'm allowed to flirt with you a bit?" He asked teasingly, a smirk touching his lips. "Actually, I'm going to flirt with you anyways weather you like it or not, but the question is, are you going to fall apart and be a blushing mess when I do?" Dimitri asked, poking her cheek gently.
