[[Vain]]

___[Traverse Town .:. Third District .:. Alley]

Vain stared at the newcomer, a feeling of curiosity coming over him as he hand seemed to react to him. What?...

Vain, this guy's heart is filled with darkness, the passive kind that you would find in the heart of a man who has resisted the temptations of darkness.

Vain got to his feet, sighing in relief as he said quietly to himself, "Thank goodness, I was worried we were in for another fight..." The young man suddenly doubled over, pained from the wounds he had received during the fight with Masenko. Dammit, I was far too careless in that fight. I just kept hoping for an easy opening...

Vain, we need to get away from this man. His darkness is almost -too- calming. Besides that, we require a much more unique form of healing than what he is obviously about to offer us.

That's right... My hand consumes the darkness in those Heartless things, right?... Maybe I can get one of them to come over here? Vain struggled to one knee, ignoring the current concern over Artemis in favor of his own. He concentrated his darkness, shutting his eyes as his cursed hand began to burn with an indigo flame. Sure enough, a small Heartless began to crawl towards Vain before lunging at him for an attack. However, even in his weakened state the Revblader was faster. His hand shot out and gripped the head of the Heartless, the darkness fading away into his arm as his body seemed to feel less pained than before. It wasn't much, but it was enough to let the young man stand.

Vain then summoned the False Key, grabbing it with his dark hand before announcing, "I'm sorry, comrades, but this is where I leave you. I have already crossed paths with Merlin once, and I do not intend on bothering him further." He turned and cut at the air with the False Key, tearing a hole in time and space before looking inside the rip. He did this several more times, each time checking the contents of the rip before finally finding the right one. "This rift should take you to Merlin's abode. As for myself, I require a much more... hostile form of healing." He dismissed the False Key and made his way down the alley, passing by the newcomer on his way. He eyed the man as he walked by, cracking the wrist in his cursed hand before sprinting out of the alleyway.

Finally- I'm starving!

~Window~

[Traverse Town::Third District::Alley]

Window thought it was a nice gesture on Nalo's part...but he wasn't one who he felt needed protecting. The man had noticed his furry friend during the battle, his sudden anger, the pain that showed through while fighting. And now, Nalo was frightened. Window could tell--the way the Viera groped for his hand, the way it trembled in his--and it didn't take a genius to understand that Nalo was upset emotionally. Even though he had seen only a glimpse, Window was a little wary of the Viera's dark side, but...he wasn't scared. Looking at Nalo, he felt a wave of sympathy and sadness wash over him. Most men had their internal demons, Nalo included. Window wanted to protect Nalo from having to face them, from having to suffer that hurt. It was in that moment in which Window decided to stick around with the Viera, if only to repay his kindness and open heart. Someone like that was rare to find in his world (or on any other, he guessed), and Window wanted to protect that bit of innocence at any cost. Alas, it was also the moment in which Window sealed his fate.

Turning away from Nalo's face, he studied the present situation. The boy who helped them left. What did that mean? Was this man in front of them dangerous? Window was glad that the boy was able to help them, although he was a bit put off by the boy's absorption of the Heartless. And then, the young man pulled out a key, of all things! From nowhere! But the next thing was even more boggling--the key ripped a hole in reality. There was no other way to put it. Window, in a rare and brief display of emotion, simply gaped with jaw slack and eyes unblinking. He had never, ever seen such a display before. But before he could gather up his face and ask the boy how he did it (or even his name, not to mention an offering of thanks), the black-haired youth was gone, leaving Window, Nalo, and the injured Artemis behind with the mysterious stranger.

Window thought for a moment. Their disappeared battle comrade had voiced sentiment that this man wasn't dangerous, but he had still sprinted off. And now, Nalo was worried. Window perceived that this man was not to be trifled with. Still, verbal contact seemed the best course at the moment. Since he was the least damaged, Window stood up and gently pushed his way in front of Nalo. He didn't know how much longer the Viera would be able to stand with the number of wounds he had accumulated, and this situation needed to be approached without emotion and with confidence.

Plus, the back of his mind growled, you need to be good for something.

Window cleared his throat. "Yes, I am afraid we ventured in here without knowing of the dangers. I myself am a newcomer to this world." He kept a wary eye on the floating green gem, not knowing what it might do. He kept tensed, ready to jump away with Nalo at a moment's notice. "And no, no one has healing magic. We are on our way to Merlin's home, where we are going to seek service. Our parting friend was kind enough to leave a way for us to get there, and I do not wish to tarry much longer in fear that the gateway will close." Window was not sure he was ready to accept this man's help; anything that he could not draw a certain conclusion about he took caution with when interacting. Artemis had been an exception, since times were desperate. Plus, his face had been easy to read once the redhead was up close. However, this man...remained an enigma.

{Death, by any other name... is still death~}

[ Traverse Town : Third District ]

The cloaked man made no movement and gave no response at first as the Revblader walked past, though Vain might have felt his eyes on him the entire time. As he vanished, the man simply went back to focusing on the other three, as well as the strange vortex that the Revblader had opened.

"I have... access to such curative methods, yes," he spoke, the green gem suddenly stopping in mid-air before slowly lowering toward Window, where it hovered in place in front of him, as if waiting for him to grab it. Now that it was closer, they would be able to get a better view of the crystal- it was a translucent emerald sphere, completely smooth, like a crystal ball, and it was about the size of a lemon or small orange. "But that does your friend no good, as I can't stick around, so why don't you have a taste, hmm?"

The moment Window (or Nalo, if he reached out first) touched the green gem, his mind would feel tiny rush of knowledge. Immediately, without explanation or reason, he would know how to cast a small, single-target Cure spell. The moment he let go of the gem, however, the knowledge would vanish.

"It has four charges, which should last you awhile," he said without explanation before turning to walk back toward the center of the Third District. "After that, it'll break. Don't waste it~"

[Fal'navi :: Second District Rooftops]

Fal'navi was no longer interested in playing around. That roar would signal others, and the noise level in his ears was distracting. He wasn't trying to win; Soryuju was stalling. That crafty little...The Wrathful Dragon would not waste time then. With a quick wave of his hand, he resummoned his weapon, probably surprising Suzuran with his spear vanishing.

"Come, Soryuju! Prepare to be beaten! And after you are downed, I shall KILL all of your little friends! Firaga!" Fal'navi roared, charging and then shooting a large fireball towards Soryuju. As the fireball flew towards Sory, Fal'navi began running after it, keeping a good ten feet behind it.

[Moggie : Traverse Town : Second District]

Moggie jumped hearing the loud roar above them. Her eyes drifted up to the rooftops then behind her at Suzuran noticing than the spear that had fell between the two of them. How did she not notice that fall? Then the spear vanished....

The moogle looked up at the rooftops, her nose wiggling.

"I guess that settles, he is close, kupo," she said before glancing at the girl, "Now to find a way up there..." Moggie cursed her small wings and body, mentally.

[[Byoki : Traverse Town : Third District]]

With loud, heavy steps accompanied by mechanical squeals and the hiss of steam escaping exhaust pipes, Byoki, a well build young man with wild untamed hair made his way through the streets atop his ferocious steed. As the machine moved on its own, Byoki stretched out on its back allowing all of his muscles to pull out and pop where they'd become tight from a long day of sitting underneath another machine that required repairs. Resting his head on the machine with a sigh, he spoke aloud to himself,"Why does that old man have to live so far away from the shop. Why couldn't he be right down the street like the scrap metal place and parts store." Byoki listened to the engine inside throb like a heartbeat, feeling the bass vibrate down to his very core. His masterpiece, the love of his life and main means of transportation, Machina Mauler.

Byoki was in his own world, as he passed by a group of individuals on his way to the "old man's" house but paid them no mind, despite the heaviness in the air. But, unfortunately, Byoki had little to no sixth sense so to speak, and didn't even notice their presence. Instead, his mechina continued on by while he listened to its "heartbeat".

{Ignorance is bliss... until reality throws a Heartless siege at you.}

[Traverse Town : Second District Rooftops]

Once again, Soryuju attempted to dissuade the powerful Fire spell using his air magic to push it away; however, his magic was overwhelmed, and the Firaga struck him dead in the chest, knocking him out of his leap and rolling onto one of the rooftops. His body struck a small chimney, knocking the breath clear out of his lungs yet again.

Soryuju was, without a doubt, overwhelmed. He tried to get up, but found his arms too weak. The prior battles had drained him, and his last potion had been given to Suzuran. He growled under his breath.

I won't just give up... just... need a chance.

[[Benk : Traverse Town : Second District Rooftops]]

In between the dragoon and the wind boy, a man wearing pale, tattered clothing jumped onto the roof placing himself in the line of fire. His arms stretched out as wide as they could and just as he might be run through by the man following the fireball, an invisible wall would block his path entirely making it impossible to continue forward.

{You look like you fell down a tree and hit every possible branch on the way down.}

[Traverse Town :: Second District :: Rooftops]

The black haired teen involuntarily flinched as the spear abruptly disappeared from the ground, leaving behind the small crater it had created. Her eyes narrowed as the fireball crashed against the silhouette of Sory as she reached behind her for her scythe. So he's either a fire user or a mage... either way, I'm taking him down! In one fluid motion, she unlatched her weapon and swung it around before her. As the blade traveled, water spilled out of it and crashed into the ground before reforming into a dragon and shooting straight up.

"Mizuumi no Ryū!" The dragon flew towards Fal'Navi, opening its jaw as if intending to swallow the stranger whole. Suzu, wasted no time in responding to the moogle as winds began to form under her feet, allowing her to wind walk towards the rooftops, though it was probably windrunning now. The heiress landed in front of the wounded dragoon and a little behind the new stranger that had appeared. She could feel the use of magic already draining her but she couldn't let her guard down now... she had to gauge the newcomer, but by his stance he seemed to be on their side. Reaching into her pocket, Suzu retrieved the potion she had received from Sory earlier in the maze.

"I've been meaning to return that to you," She said, gently tossing it toward the spear wielder before turning her amethyst gaze towards Fal'Navi. What is up with this town? Is it normally a villain magnet???

~Window~

[Traverse Town::Third District::Alley]

Window stared again at the floating green orb. He looked back toward Nalo, to see what his response might be and if he trusted the stranger's gift. He muttered to the Viera, "I do not know if this man is of good intentions or not, but if this is indeed a healing object...you should have it. You need it more than I do, as a fighter. It is readily apparent that you are more susceptible to injury due to your battle abilities. As one who contributes nothing, I do not need such an object." Nor do I deserve it, since I do not work for it. It is only fair.

But, as the stranger turned to go, Window called out, "Wait! At least tell us your name? To whom am I to address thanks for this?" Or curse, if this turns out to be a false show of generosity? "Can you give us any advice on safely navigating this or any other world?" The last question was a desperate attempt to find some kind of direction or purpose; torn away from his world, what was Window supposed to do? It was a split second of weakness, the question escaping before Window could catch it. It was just...the stranger seemed like he would know information, and if anyone wanted to learn more about the universe, it was Window. Obstacle after obstacle seemed to get in the way of them getting to Merlin, and Window was not one to pass up an opportunity for advice, even if it was just a hint about how he came to Traverse Town.

[Moggie : Traverse Town : Second District Rooftops]

Moggie charged up a spell of her, casting a blizzard spell along side Suzuran's water. The water combined with the ice should be more than enough to keep Fal'Navi busy for awhile.

The moogle 'bounced' a little as the wind brought her up to the roof, she used her wings to fly up in between the new guy in strange clothes and Soryuju. Moggie took a fighting stance along side Suzu.

"You know, it is a good thing we decided to go looking for you, kupo," the moogle said sparing a moment to look back at Sory before turning to Benk, "Though, I am curious as to who this guy is."

[Alleyway ♦ Traverse Town]

Nalo stood there, mouth ajar, staring at Window's unbridled generosity. His head swiveled to gawk at the green orb, an emerald gem; he grasped it firmly and brought it close, still staring at it. "Window, I..." His voice was cut off short as his mind flooded with new knowledge. He started to get a migraine while he held on to the emerald orb. It felt powerful. With the blink of an eye, Nalo learned how to cast cure and quickly tended to their fallen comrade. Bright, green crystals fell over him and most of Artemis's wounds were instantly healed over.

Nalo gave Window a quick embrace. "You take it." He took Window's hand in his own and placed the smooth green gem in it. In the blink of an eye, his knowledge left him. "This way, I don't have to worry so much about you. Besides, these are just scratches. They're no big deal. Now, take this." Nalo took a step back and started to smile again. With Masenko-Ma gone and a way to Merlin's abode in sight, this adventure across Traverse Town might finally be over.

{Death, by any other name... is still death~}

[ Traverse Town : Third District ]

"One charge down, and so quickly, tsk tsk," he muttered lightly as he stopped, listening to Window's voice (and watching as the machina man walked past, heading toward the door). "I'd have hoped you'd use them more responsibly. Alas."

"Names... hah. What value is in a name, hmm~ Names are but silly titles," he began to speak, turning around to face the duo (and Artemis, who was now healed); the cloaked man raised his arms to his hood and, with a nonchalant movement, removed it. However, they didn't see a face. What they saw was a head and neck entirely covered in black wrapping, with only two small openings for his eyes... but there were no eyes. All they could see were two completely black spaces, devoid of light; they even seemed to gleam somewhat in the street lights, signifying that those black spots might be his eyes. "Hmm. I've been asked for a name many times before... what have I gone by... Legault? Nah, not this time. Ephidél? That was last year... How about Xetunos? I like that one. We'll go with Xetunos."

"As for surviving... stick together. Some of us enjoy picking off the stragglers," he sneered, chuckling under his breath. "And keep an open mind... and an open heart. Anything else~?"

"Someone with no destiny is like a blank page with no utensil to write with."

Artemis sucked in a large breath, a wave of warms spreading throughout his body. His hears beat sped up for a moment, and then returned to its average intervals of dadum, dadum. Colour also filled his face, as he sat up; flexing his hand, he looked about, noticing that Masenko-Ma had left along with Vain. Although there was a newcomer who appeared to be eager to leave. "Wha-" was all he got out of his mouth, before he realized that the man was concealed in dark wrappings, which looked kind of sketchy to him. Although, there are alot of sketchy people and things they had already met.

All he had heard of the conversation taking place in front of him was the last sentence that the man had spoken; he picked out the 'us' that he referred to. He wondered if there were more like him, or the man who had attacked them. Raising his body off of the cobblestone, he stared at the man suspiciously. A couple meters away, he walked over toward his scythe; which had been hit out of his grasp when he was knocked down. kneeling down, he picked up the shaft, and dragged it casually until he reached his new comrades. He swung his head to the side, flicking the hair out of his eye which inevitably fell back over it.

~Window~

[Traverse Town::Third District]

Window was surprised by two things: The first was how readily Nalo grasped the orb. Was that a standard item of some sort, then? Because he hadn't thought Nalo was that trusting of the stranger. The healing magic was also wondrous, but expected. The second surprise was the stranger himself. He was a walking contradiction, and everything around him seemed to become contradictory as well (such as Nalo's behavior of seeming frightened and then accepting the orb, or the boy with the sword). How could this man of black so easily and condescendingly dismiss them but at the same time give a healing item--which thankfully worked and Nalo hadn't died--and offer advice like "keep an open mind and an open heart"? If the man weren't so intimidating, Window might have found the line humorous; it was such a campy thing thing to say, but something one might expect out of a wise sage. And what did he mean by "some of us"? Was he one to pick off stragglers?

But, more than anything, this dark stranger sparked...curiosity. Window wasn't one to normally fear things, the man before them included. Sometimes, this curiosity drove Window to a bluntness that he normally avoided due to polite formality, but something about the stranger erased the edges of Window's inhibitions, made him dare just a little more. Despite hearing what could be taken for impatience, Window pushed further, "Who...who are you? And...where can I go to learn more? About this world? About all of the worlds? About..." but he caught himself before finishing "how I arrived here?" He did not feel as if that would be something the man would know. Sure, Merlin might know much information as well, but Window was not one for failing to make the most of an opportunity.

"I..." Window hung his head, another uncharacteristic gesture on his part. The feeling of displacement and loss surged forward again as he was once again hit with the magnitude of the hole in his heart where all that he had loved once lay. In a small, barely audible voice, he murmmured, "I need to know more. About everything. I need to have something familiar to hold on to. I need to find my place." He had said it so softly Nalo and the stranger might not have heard, but he couldn't take the words back now. He wasn't a warrior, or a traveler, or a great man; he was a scholar--knowledgeable, useful. But now here he was, back at the bottom, asking to be taught again by the first person who seemed to have wisdom about the world around them and a firm grasp on the nature of it. Window had a feeling he might be rejected or sent away, but...he had to try.
