Cody immediately put his phone in his pocket, looking up to smile at Dari. "Hey love!" He greeted, going over to kiss his cheek. Oh, cupcakes! He'd gotten hungry waiting for Dari to come back.
"What flavor did you get?" He asked, looking them over. "Let's have one."

"One?!" Dari asked, pretending to be offended, "Get your own!" He laughed though and looked down at the plastic container in his hands.
"Hot chocolate, creme brulee, German chocolate, cookies and cream, pistachio and whatever 'strawberry blast' is." He tilted his head. "The card was written too small, so it's gotta be complex. Which one do you want to try?"
It made sense to share, of course. They were big cupcakes, and you got more flavors if you just split them in half rather than getting two of each.

Cody looked over the cupcakes and smiled at Dari. "Let's share this one," he said, pointing to the hot chocolate flavored one. He gestured to the couch. "Want to watch a movie?" He asked. "We could play a game, too," he suggested, then.
He wanted to spend time with Dari before the surprise came!

Dari nodded and headed off for the kitchen.
"Sure thing! You pick, either one." He was just happy to be back. Game or movie, it didn't matter. He appreciated every moment, but these just after returning felt different somehow. They felt important.
"Ooh, it's got marshmallow in it!" he chimed from the kitchen as he cut it in half. He came back to Cody with two small plates, one with each half of a large pale-chocolate cupcake with white filling.

"Let's watch a movie," Cody decided. That allowed for more cuddling than playing. Wired controllers got in the way! He really had to invest in wireless ones at some point.
"Marshmallow?" He echoed, grinning. He took his plate and scooted over some. "Want to pick the movie?" He asked.

"I said you had to pick," Dari said with a smile, and he sat with his plate and lifted it to his mouth to take a bite flat off. He eyed the guide on the television and made a soft humming sound. Did he want something he had seen before, so he could pay attention to Cody, or did he want to watch something new so they could cuddle in silence?
"I'm thinking comedy."

"We've done so much together, I forget what movies you haven't seen," Cody protested, and grinned. "I don't want to bore you." He took a bite of his cupcake half happily. He paused and savored the taste. "It's good!" He said, smiling.
Comedy? He took the remote and began to look through the comedy section. "Tell me what looks good," he said.

"It's not boring. It's just how my memory works," Dari insisted. "I could tell you the last time we had cupcakes to the moment, what kind we ate, how we ate them... it doesn't mean I don't want cupcakes again." Seasonal flavors were always nice, though. He dipped his finger into the filling and sucked it off.
"Maybe that one?" But when Cody rolled over the title he saw an actor he didn't like in it. It wasn't his sort of comedy. "No, thanks. What about Ghostbusters? I remember the original, and people lost their minds over this one. Not in a good way, usually."

Cody looked at him. "Exactly," he said, "You shouldn't have to rewatch a movie you remember every moment of," he said. "Cupcakes are different, you got different flavors this time," he considered that for a moment. "We should do something different each time," he said.
"Ghostbusters? I haven't seen the new one. Let's watch."

"I haven't either," Dari said. He decided not to comment on the cupcakes. Why would it matter if they did something new every time? Cody seemed to think that an eidetic memory made things boring, when in reality they were only memorable."I hear the blonde one's a fan favorite."

The next day, Cody called Toby early as he got ready. He was dressed, and breakfast had been had--now all he had to do was distract Dari. It was hard keeping secrets, when your fiancée had the best hearing in the world.
"Hey, are you ready?" He asked. Ready for what, he didn't say. Dari would probably already be suspicious.

"Yup," Toby said. As far as he was concerned, Distracting Dari would be easy. They had been friends since forever and with Cody's appearance they'd begun spending less time together. Now, after the whole incident, Cody seemed to be unwilling to let Dari out of his sight. It would be easy to get the young man to come over. "You want him here or there?"
They had a sort of trust between them. If Toby said they had to turn around and go back, very few questions would be asked, if any.

"Okay, good. I called and they said there's plenty available to look at," Cody said, and looked around. "There. I'll bring it over, alright? Don't tell him! I almost did this morning, but I think I can keep it a secret until I get there." He'd been bursting with excitement since he'd gotten up this morning.
He really hoped Dari hadn't caught on.

"Alright, I'll call him. see you later." With that, Toby hung up. It was like a secret mission. Without code, you just had to say the bare minimum to stay out of trouble.
Predictably, Dari's phone could be heard ringing almost immediately after.
"Hey! No, he's going somewhere, I think. Yeah. Sure! That sounds nice. Sure." He said very little else before he went to find Cody.
"Toby wants to hang out today. Is that alright? I'll have my phone on me."

Cody put his phone away and smiled as Dari came in. "Yeah, that's fine," he said, and stood. "How about I meet you there later? I've got a couple errands to run, but I'll bring lunch." Then he'd bring Dari and the kitten home.
He still didn't like being away from Dari for very long. It was like an itch he couldn't reach, the feeling that somehow, Dari might just disappear. "What are you and Toby going to do?"
