"Sure. Peaches is pretty low-key. I don't see why it'd be a problem." Dari wasn't a child. He'd be able to accept responsibility and care for the animal.
"Did he mention it to you? He told me he met that woman's kitten. I'm sure he'd like it, though."

"Really?" Cody smiled brightly. "I'm sure whatever kitten I get him will be just fine with Peaches. Maybe even Seamus will like him."
He paused. "Yeah, that's what gave me the idea. And I think taking care of something would be good for him." It might help Dari feel better, anyway.

"Just pick out a good one. Go meet them first if you can. That's how I ended up with Peaches. Kittens already have little shadows of their future personalities." Peaches was a good cat, too. He was nearly perfect, but then nothing was absolutely perfect, plus Seamus had gotten to him.

"Alright, thanks Toby," Cody smiled. He'd pick out the sweetest, most purr-y kitten in the shelter! Dari was bound to be thrilled. "Thank you! I'll wait for Dari, then go look tomorrow."
He couldn't wait to surprise the alien! It'd have to be an early Christmas gift. Or was it a "I'm so glad you aren't dead!" gift? ...Maybe it was both.

"What all do we need for a kitten? Maybe some toys? A litter box? I've never met a cat that actually stayed in it's bed, though..." he grinned. "Thanks again," he added. "Dari's going to be so surprised!"
He couldn't wait!

"Toys, food, bowls, littler, litter box, bed... cats are easy." At least he hoped that Dari would find his easy. The alien would want to go out shopping for supplies himself, surely, but if the kitten was going to come visit it'd be silly to have him bring everything over every time. Toby definitely wanted to meet this cat.

"Want to keep him busy while I pick out a kitten?" He asked. He didn't know how else to do it. Dari would become upset if he sent him out and he wasn't home when he got back. "Do you think tomorrow would work?" He added.
"I could bring it over there before I give it to him," he offered.

"Yeah, I can do that. Wait, why do you want to come over first?" Was Cody just nervous or did he have other plans? Toby didn't need to sign off on the kitten or anything. It wasn't his, and he had faith it would just become another member of the family regardless of its attitude.

Toby laughed after a moment. Yeah, exactly! He shifted his weight audibly, but he was clearly still smiling.
"Sure thing. Maia's going to want to Face Time with it. Fair warning."

Cody grinned. "Course she will," he said. "She'll be first in line to FaceTime the cutest kitten ever." It'd be Dari's, and that automatically made it cuter. He could just imagine a kitten sleeping curled up on the alien's shoulder.
"I'll call you tomorrow, alright?"

"Bye!" Cody grinned and hung up the phone. With that done, he looked through the kittens on the website. He was admiring one in particular. It had a shiny tri colored coat and yellow eyes. He'd have to meet it to be positive; Dari needed a kitten that wouldn't mind being cuddled and played with.
He wondered when Dari'd come home with those cupcakes. He was looking forward to them!

It wasn't all too long before Dari returned with a half-dozen cupcakes. His reasoning was that any they didn't eat now could be saved for later. Who didn't want cupcakes? He was smiling when he pushed the door open with his free hand and stepped inside. He closed it with his foot.
"I'm back, Cody," he said, because shouting wasn't really necessary any more.
