The car pulled up outside Cody's apartment in less than fifteen minutes, and Toby went up to ring the bell. Dari seemed rather nervous, shuffling his feet as he waited. It was not all excited energy. He desperately wanted to see Cody, yes, and was sure that he could prove his identity, but Cody had so strongly disbelieved. He had been so hurt, and the shock of him coming back...?

Cody opened the door quickly. He was holding a mug out for Toby with his free hand. He wasn't sure Toby wasn't drunk; and however much he wanted to believe... Toby'd said Dari was gone.
But then he spotted Dari. He took a sharp breath and studied him for a long time. He shook his head and stared again. "...Are you real?"

Toby took the mug reflexively, but then stepped back to allow Dari to come to the front. The alien smiled, though his brows spoke for sadness, and his eyes began to well up with tears.
"Yes."
Oh, he wanted them to be everything again. He was so sorry that it had taken so long. He had missed Cody so much!

Cody took Dari's hand and pulled him inside. He wrapped his arms around him and held him tightly. "How do I know you're not some kind of--" he began, but stopped. His grip on Dari tightened slightly. "You're alive?" Was he dreaming? Was Dari really here? ...What if this was some kind of changling?
...What If Cody didn't really care?

Dari smiled and fell into Cody's arms. He barely heard the thump behind him as Toby closed the door. Cody was a familiar shape, warm and loving. This was what he wanted for the rest of his life.
"I'm sorry," he said tearfully, "I'm so sorry. I'm back now. I'm so sorry." He leaned up to kiss Cody's cheekbone.

Cody held him for a long time. As Dari spoke, his doubts seemed to disappear. This was his love. A ghost or changling or anything--they couldn't imitate love. He captured Dari's lips with his.
Somehow, Dari was alive!

He happily caught Cody's lips and kissed him with desperation. Yes, he had missed this. He had missed it so dearly. For Cody to think he was dead must have been a horrible thing. He could only imagine what it'd be like if Cody were to die!
Toby looked to Maia and raised a brow. They should probably let them be. The confusion over Dari's resurrection (or return, as it was) seemed to have gone and he didn't really want to stay and watch what might go on.
"Call us if you need anything," Toby said, but Dari didn't regard him. Toby opened the door and held it for Maia, offering a little gesture out. Shall we?

Cody didn't say anything, just deepened the kiss. He didn't look up when Toby spoke. He held Dari, reaching to stroke his cheek. "How are you here?" He asked, softly. He kissed him again. "Toby said you were dead."
Maia followed Toby out, and took his hand. "I don't think you're going to get a phone call," she teased him. "I'm glad it turned out this way," she added. Dari being gone had been the worst month she could remember.

"Me too," Toby said, and then with a sigh: "It's amazing." His best friend had dead. Now it would be back to relative normalcy. Now they could have their Thanksgiving properly, with everyone there.
Dari meanwhile smiled to Cody and returned the kiss.
"No, I was never dead. I was just gone. Reconstituting. We're going to have to get my ring cleaned." Rather than wait for a response, though, he initiated the kiss.

"It really is," Maia agreed, and smiled at Toby. She swayed their hands. "Everything can go back to normal!"
"He called me when it happened," Cody muttered. "He said you weren't coming home. I didn't think he'd come back without you if there was any chance." He returned the kiss and held him. "Stay tonight," he said. It wasn't a question.

Dari's lips parted not to kiss, but to beg. He didn't want to talk about this tonight. He didn't want to think about it. Not now. Luckily, Cody didn't seem to either. The subject turned and Dari nodded, then cupped Cody's cheeks in his hands and kissed him hard. He would never die so easily. Not now. He had a life for him at home.
When the kiss broke he turned to kiss Cody's jawline and whisper somthing that is not gaia-appropriate.

Cody paused only for a moment. His eyes seemed to light up. He pulled Dari further into his apartment and towards his bedroom. "Your wish is my command, love," he murmured.
He led Dari off to Rabby's new website.

It was a few days after Dari's return that Cody waited for Dari to leave the house. Making sure the alien was gone, he quickly dialed up Toby.
"Hey. Listen, I don't know how long Dari'll be gone but I had an idea." He wanted to get his fiancée a kitten. Dari had been alone for a month. Completely and utterly alone, at least until he'd spent that night in jail, the poor guy... "I want to get him a cat."

Toby was lounging on the couch when Cody called. The man had planned his timing wisely. Were he at work, Toby might have been less likely to agree. He knew how much Dari enjoyed Peaches, however.
"What, like a cat to live there or a cat to live here?"

"I'm not sure. Wherever Dari wants to keep it?" Cody shrugged. "Here, maybe, But I'm telling you now, I don't know anything about raising babies." He had a local shelter's website open on his phone. "Do you think he'd like that? He's been through so much..."
He wanted to spoil Dari rotten this Christmas.
