Torment

Torment groaned slightly as he sat up, "Ugh...I'll be fine...hopefully." Torment was one of those guys that, for obvious reasons, prayed small injuried like that never became permanent. As the pain subsided he glanced to Cora, "As long as you don't have any needles I might just take you up on that offer."

No needles...

:::She said automatically as she began to manipulate the utility pouches on her belt and retrieved a small gun-like administrator. She was so practiced with this by now that it only took a few seconds to load the gun with the pain inhibiting nuerochemical reactors, and c**k it::::

:::She began to lift Tor's sleeve with her free hand:::

Tor didn't resist as she administered basic first aid, though he did give the chairs deadly looks. All the furniture in the Brink except maybe the tables now needed to burn. There was no question about it, burning was the only solution. The only big problem was fire, and he was too lazy to think about trying to actually start the burning process. He did delight in the thought though. He glanced to Cora, "Ya know, I've been here twice in like the past ten minutes. Though I'm thinking people would be glad that the series of arrivals wasn't a half hour earlier. Might have had to have a cover charge."

I don't understand.

:::She said quite simply, as she pulled the release on the administrator, pulsing the checmicles into his bicep. No doubt Torment was used to her treating him over and over:::

But, it's been about a week I think since I've seen you. It's hard to gague.

:::She tugs at her hair, still growing:::

Tor shrugs, "Meh, it doesn't matter much. That and the fact this place is completely and utterly insane sometimes." Tor began to stand, offering her a hand once he was up, "Have you seen my father since I last saw you? I mean to talk to him, but seeing as a whole day hasn't even passed in like my last five visits its been kinda hard."

:::Cora gave him her hand to help her up, but she froze solid and still when he mentioned his father. He would have felt her hand grow stiff, and she stopped allowing him to help her up. Her thoughts raced for a moment, and she felt a hundred different things:::

:::She blocked it out now for a while, she decided to keep holding it back, as long as she could. After a moment, she stopped being rigid, and began to stand up normally. Her expression was washed with apathy suddenly, her eyes were still frozen, and cold:::

No. I haven't seen him in years.

:::She said it as though the words were just a simple truth:::

Tor understood and almost wished he could take it back, "Cora...I'm sorry. If you don't wish to speak of him we don't have to, but I don't think its a subject that should be dropped so easily. If nothing else you should go see him, talk to him, spend time with him outside this place. My world is only a few steps away..." He nodded to the door leading back to the patrons' worlds.

:::It was then that she looked at Torment, fear in her eyes:::

He's...there? He's alive?

:::She didn't know what to think or do. She'd worked so hard not to care, not to wish to see him anymore or know that he was ok. Why now? Why so suddenly was it so easy after making it so hard. How was that fair?

Silent tears began to scroll down her paled face:::

Torment nodded, "My sources have confirmed its him, different in appearance to an extreme degree, even to carrying another name, but it is him. I don't know what words you two have exchanged here in the Brink, but you two need to sit down and have a talk with a bit of help from the school of Transmutation." He held her hand firmly as he took a step towards the door, "I can take you to him, but you need to trustme, you have to trust the both of us."

:::But she stood dead still, and Torment may as well have taken the hand of a fixed brick wall. The tears still streaming down:::

I...I don't... I can't! I don't know if...

::She stammered for a moment before taking her hand back, but soon both her hands cupped her face and she sobbed openly:::

I don't know who he is! I don't know what I feel, I don't know! I don't know...and I don't want to do this anymore.

:::She wanted to sink to the ground, but her knees stayed firm, and she herself was afraid to move them:::

Tor moved back towards her and put his arms around her, mostly to comfort her, but also to try and get her to listen, "Cora, listen to me. He is still the same man. Think of it as wearing a mask. Thats all it is. I can remove that mask for a while. It disturbs me on a level unknown to most people to say it, but he truly loves you, heart and soul, and no mask can interfere with that. Let me take you to him so you can find it out for yourself. Don't go on my word, go on his and what you know in your heart. All you have to do is walk through that door."

:::She felt like she had melted into a formless container for pain and sorrow, and that she was only upright now because Torment held her that way:::

No... :::She shuttered::: I don't want to. I don't want to do this anymore. I want... I... I want to stand still.

:::She sobbed. It was the only thing she could think of wanting right then. To not have to worry about what was beyond that door. What sort of further anguish lie ahead of it. She wanted to stay right there, and not think about it at all:::

Tor continued to hold her up as he tried once more, "Cora, if theres one thing I know, its torment. Hell, its my namesake. If you don't resolve the matter it will plague you every time you see him, and I won't stop until you get off your butt and do something about it. Its going to slowly start killing you inside, Cora. Don't make me carry you."
PostPosted: Sun Aug 14, 2005 11:20 am

No! :::She yelped:::

I'll never see him again! He's gone! And he'll never be back here, and this is where I am staying!

:::She pressed herself deeper into Torment as though she could ground him there too, as though it meant neither of them had to go anywhere. She was miserable:::

Tor tried to move her, but as she was, it wasn't going to help much, back to diplomacy, "Cora, if you come back with me I promise you that you will be able to see my father as you know him. Its true he'll never look the same here again, but in the world in which we live he can look just like you knew him. Without you he's a broken man, the simple fact you don't want to talk to or even see him is killing him. Stop being childish and help me help the both of you."
