"Layla!... I can't b-" He paused as a sudden blur came inbetween them. Quite startled he nearly jumped from the tree himself but quickly found his footing. For a moment the smile was gone from his face and replaced with a look of shock and suprise. The new cub had totally taken him off guard. He only starred for a moment, listening to the cub's response. Well how rude and intrusive of her! You'd think a cub would know better- him and Layla were in the middle of a conversation. He had to wonder of the mannerism of this one. Either way he masked his thoughts and sat himself upright, trying to appear larger by lifting his head a bit, "You are in the lands of the ancient Mistweavers- those born from the gods of the rains and the storm...."

Layla's balance was shifted with the new arrival and she was quickly in a defensive position, though not entirely inbalance. She snarled a very softly and lowly behind the other cub, her eyes narrowing, sensing the guest was unwelcome in general. She didn't speak, but merely stayed alert...

Jendai sat on the branch, flexing her nails into the bark and letting the green liguid of the tree clean her claws, "Really?" her rouigh voice masked her recognition of the name, "Mistweaver you say? How lovely. Well, I already know you Maji, well, at least your name. What about you little one?" She turned to the female with soft eyes, she had to hunch her neck to look at the girl.

She knew him? How curious... he could swear in all the lionesses he'd met -and there was quite a handful of them- he'd never met one like her. For one all of them had been terribly polite. This one didn't seem to take much reguard for anyone's personal space or polite conversation. There were ways of waiting your turn for a conversation- especially when two old friends were being re-united. Either way the smile never dimmed from his face and there would be no way to tell her was slightly offended at this lioness' arrival, "Perhaps instead of ignoring her as you so politely have been doing you might turn around and inquire as to what her name is from her....", his tone was still pleasent, it sounded more like a sudjestion than anything, "And just how do you know me? I've not the best meomory in the world but I can swear on the rain god himself that I've not met you before..."

Jendayi bit her lip and tried her best not to sound rude, "Maji, I have ears. I may not know who you are personally, but you just said you're name to the young girl. If I were you I'd be a bit more careful about openly talking when you really have no clue who is above you." She turned her back to Maji. "Now young miss, I am very sorry for not catching your name. Then again though, I am happy you do not let loose your tongue like your companion. Oh," Jendayi nearly caught her tongue, "are you two...mates?" she looked from Maji to the sleek, amethyst eyed female.

Layla remained a little tense, the hair upon the back of her neck bristled a bit to show her unease and she attempted in vain to cover a deep, yet soft, growl that was emitted from her throat. Upon hearing the word "mate" she was instantly thrown off guard mentally, she blinked and immediately pulled back her head, her eyes wide with some vague form of astonishment.

"My WHAT? He is still lil more than a child, though I'm only a few steps above...I-I," her eyes narrowed once more, though this time they were a little less convincing as her mind was still wrestling with a great deal of shock. She took a deep breath and let the whole bizarre confusion go before continuing in her low and currently harsh voice, "I am Layla...though I don't believe I caught your name."

"Layla." she said, "Layla," she let the name roll of her tongue a few times as Jandayi is known to do. "So he isn't your mate then? I see, in due process of time then." she gave an inward grin at her comment, "My name?" her tail flinched. She didn't like giving away her name often, especially to strangers. It hurt to say it. At night sometimes she would have dreams of he day she had had to make up her name, "Jendayi." Jumping onto a higher branch, she let her eyes fall upon the boy, "Now tell me of this queen. Dead you say, right?" she paused, "Oh, right. You are not yet ready to accept this fact. Well, what would you say if I was to tell you that I am going to become your Queen? a high and mighty one too." she looke at the cubs with sparkling eyes, "And since Maji is currently single, I think I'll ake him as my King." She nodded proudly.

Maji was never one quick to anger... he could honestly say that he'd never experenced the emotion in his young life but this female was pushing his patiance quite a bit. Not only was she intrusive and completely inconsiderate of proper procedures in the most simple of things she was too forward in her speaking. Thinking and having opinions was one thing, but rash assumptions and blurting out the first thing that came to mind was another. It was-if put in a polite way-indecent. He ground his teeth behind a now very obviously forced smile, his tail flicking tensely behind him as the two made their introductions. At the question of being Layla's mate his eyes widened a bit, the black female's reaction was a bit sharp but as always he did his best in masking any response to that. Not that he wanted to have a mate- or even think of having a mate- at his age but she made it sound almost like it was offensive to consider such a thing. The next things to come of the intruder's mouth nearly pushed the young mistweaver into anger.... she was claiming queenship over the lands- AND claiming him as her king. That had gone far enough.

"NOW SEE HERE!", He stood himself up sharply, his stance taking a far different posture than his normal courtious one, "You've said quite enough. The queen very well may be alive as I assumed that Layla here had died as well and as we both can plainly see- she's quite alive. Making such assumptions just might turn her fate so I'll hear none of it. Secondly you are not a queen- you've not the poise, the manner, the... the... anything fit for royalty. A queen would know how to come about gatiously and present herself in a far more noble manner... rather than intruding and insulting those around her. Thirdly I will not be claimed like that! I'll have you know that it's not how things are done."

It was obvious that the cub was slightly more than annoied. With an agitated huff he leapt gracefully from the tree to the ground. Turning his head he gave a bit of an aggrivated snort to the new comer. "Good day."

With that he turned sharply and made back for the river to cool off. He had never been angry before- it was something he was afraid to be feeling but nothing inside him told him that he was completely in the wrong. Perhaps he could have been a bit more polite about things but she had crossed a bit of a line with him.

How dare she?! She probibly never heard of the name Mistweaver before... how dare she claim queenship over these lands?! Why I bet she couldn't even spell her own name much less write it out. The nerve of that... that... rouge!

Layla resumed a more graceful, if slightly defensive position on the branch, sitting herself proudly as the cub spoke and flexing and unflexing her claws. A little snarl was barely hidden and a the growl came and went. After the cub had leapt from the branch she snarled quite obviously at the lioness as if punctuating what Maji had said before leaping off the branch aswell.

She landed upon the cool ground with some grace, though she made a now wel practised defensive crouch for a second to be sure no predators where around. She continued along the river in the direction she'd seen Maji travel. Her nose was up in the air and she sniffed softly, a little self doubt rising as to which way he'd truely taken.

Jendayi had to try her best to look hurt as the young male spoke. She wasn't quite sure what her plan was, but this was going in the general direction she had hoped for. When the cubs left she wondered if she should follow them. Not now. but, maybe I was closer to my mark then I expected. She didn't want to be involved in this stupid game of king and queen, from what the cute boy had said the queen was most likely gone. And it hurt her to think this, but if she was not dead then literally gone. All she knew was that her homeland needed a ruler. Maji would make a good King. But he wouldn't want to cooperate, that's for sure. And that Layla. Man, she didn't even have a flicker of jealousy. What am i supposed to do with her!?! after a moemnt of thought she shook her head, Why do I do this? Why am I trying to help? she thought of her family, how they had forced her out. She had done nothing wrong. She was barely a cub and she was already fending for herself. She let a great sigh fall from her chest and flicked her tail idly. I'll follow them. I've done i before. I can do it again. She didn't want to cause trouble with the two lions- they may be the only mistweavers left. Don't think that Jen, what about your family? No use. They're dead. I know it. She had nothing to lose, nor gain for that matter. She settled with that and followed the scents both the lions had left.

((Jen babe doesn't try to be nasty, it was only a joke!

Jen: sure it was....don't worry though. It'll all work out in the end...))

Maji continued back accross the river towards the jungle. He'd never felt so insulted in his entire life. The nerve that that female had showed back there... the open bluntness of her opinion, the barging into the conversation, and the insulting of the absent queen... it was all too rude. She couldn't possibly be a Mistweaver. How dare she claim otherwise with her manner? A walk would do him good- clear his head and allow him to return to his normal mind set. Perhaps it was because he had hoped for so long to see another lion, for them to stay instead of leave a few days after meeting them for once... and that he was disappointed. Perhaps it was that she looked very much like a mistweaver but behaved no better than a chattering monkey, perhaps it was that they refirred to him as "just a cub" even. His pace slowed as he came to another section of the river. He allowed himself to walk right into the water, feeling the refreshing cold of the waters pounding against his body was about all it took to clear his mind.

The river always put him in a better mood- unlike other lions he adored the feeling of being wet, of being in the water and having it wash over and around him. The cold was oddly comforting and it seemed just so tranquil. The sound of the running water hitting him added to it and the smell of the river itself, the smell of the jungle around the river was enough to put the young lion into a trance.

Layla couldn't find Maji, she walked up along the river's edge, unsure if perhaps he'd passed through or headed back into the trees, she felt a little inept in her inability and gave up the hunt herself, turning toward a line of familair trees and slipped behind it before taking a running jump at another and embedding her claws with in it. She scaled it with little difficulty and was soon enough gone in the forest.

Jendayi let her mind falter as she followed Layla's sent. The instant she let her thoughts open, images from the past seared into her vision. No. She thought, trying to cast out the horrible thoughts. For a moment she thought she had lost the scent but continued on, trying her best not to concentrate on those times. Her pace was quickening and soon she could see Layla in the distance. No! She thought again, You're supposed to be looking for Maji! Fine. She wasn't going to be able to just flat out tell Layla to go get Maji and turned tail before the young lioness could see her.

She came upon the river by chance, just following her instincts. Maji's gray body was in the water and Jendayi's eyes wandered over his sleek fur. His muscles were beginning to become prmonent as adolescence fell upon the young boy. Maybe... maybe he will be king someday. "Hey," she called to him in her husky voice. "Before you go running away again...sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. Guess I just struck a nerve I didn't know was there." she sat on her haunches and waited for Maji to respond.

He ducked his head into the water for a moment, allowing the tranquility of the simple sound of water rushing past him, he feeling of his slight mane whipping in the current, and the simple cool of the water relax him a bit more. He whipped his head from the water and whirled his mane back so it would clear from his face, the pearly locks clung to his neck and part of his shoulders in the motion, sending a wave of droplets into the air. With a deep breath he continued back to the bank, shaking himself off. An annoyingly firmilar voice broke the tranquility of the river, causing the cub to turn his head slowly in her direction. He had managed to calm himself enough to return the mask of a constant smile to his face. "It's quite alright but it would serve you well to learn common curtosy and some manners. For one- you allow for a conversation to come to a point where it's polite for you to enter rather than bursting in upon it. I was being reunited with a friend from long months past and you so rudely drove her away. It was frusterating... secondly you're intitled to an opinion but it's best that you keep it to yourself concerning thoughts about who shold be your mate. I am not a posession to be claimed so you had no right to claim me as your mate or king or whatever... thirdly the queen may be alive and I'm not one to believe otherwise. She was a cub like myself and I'm alive, am I not? There is hope for her."

Layla was about to high-tail it back to the tree for a small nap and hunting session when she heard the lioness back toward the stream address Maji. Her ears perked and she froze mid-stride some eight feet above the ground. Her curiousity got the best of her and she shifted, turning herself around and quietly returning to the clearing. She stayed in the shadows as she heard Maji's responce and slowly slid her face out, still slightly hidden so she could see where they were speaking.

She strolled carefully out onto a nearby overhanging limb and sat with as much balance as she could, shaking a couple leaves but little else. She peared toward them, a slight grin on her features.

"You under estimate me, takes more than an obnoxious guest to drive me away," her voice was surely quite soft by the time it reached the two, her voice was also quite low given that she was a little rather sleepy.
