"Wh-what makes you think that?" he asked, trying to sound brighter than he felt. He looked uneasy and his eyes flicked from the other's face back down to the ground and then fixed on his hands so he wouldn't have to look at the other.

It was easy enough to see through Sayael's attempt to cover up the truth, and Dax.. He felt bad for the boy. He would never have thought a prince would have to go through anything like that. While he felt he had it bad to have over-caring parents, he put no mind to how anyone else had to live. Veering his horse as close as he could to the boy without making either animal too uncomfortable, he reached a hand out to lay on his shoulder. "I'm sorry, Sayael," he said before offering a soft smile. "I don't know why I thought that."

A pained smile twitched onto his lips, but he didn't raise his eyes. "I... it's... it's alright..." he murmured. He looked as if he had been about to say something, but he stopped himself before he had really started, his mouth closing after a moment of silence. "We should... hurry on," he managed to say after a few more uncomfortable moments.

"Yeah.. You're right," the disguised blonde agreed. Before he pulled away, he gave Sayael's shoulder a light squeeze. He felt another urge to apologize, but refrained from doing so. It wouldn't really help anything. Though several questions rose in his mind he wanted to asked the boy, he decided to hold them for another time. Maybe if he could actually gain the other's trust, he'd learn more. Now to try and break the awkward silence. ".. How far do you think we'll get before we have to stop?"

Sayael shrugged, but his releif at the change of subject was evident. "Since your castle is so conveniently placed around the southern tip of the kingdom, we should be able to reach the border tonight - we can pass it if we don't stop. From there we just ride through the Storms to the very edge where it borders the Kingdom of Earth - where my... 'parents' live and where we will 'seel their aproval'. It'll take quite a few days, though. The Nation is quite large."

((He is. But he has Earth blood, right? And you never know who's listening. =o Which is why it's 'parents' instead of parents. And since, on the cover, they are going to seek the approval for their marrage and Dax is so obviously Ice - it has to be Sayael's parents and, lucky for them, he looks like he belongs to the Kingdom of Earth.))

(Ok, ok. Got it.)
Dax's lip quirked with the mention of the Kingdom of Earth. His own Kingdom's enemy since- well, since before he could remember. He had been to the Storms only a few times and with his father, but not beyond. He imagined it to be... excessively green. "And from then on is a happily ever after," he added. ".. Or at least I'm here hoping."

"What's that supposed to mean?! You don't think I'll make you happy?" he asked. He was back to acting childish again, but his heart wasn't quite in it. There remained an unhappy gleam in his eyes and, though he had raised his gaze to look at the path in front of him, he never tried to look over at Dax.

"I'm just leaving open the possibilities of 'what if's'," he explained with a smile. "If you go and try to set the future and expect no flaws to occur, then something is bound to go wrong. There won't be any forcing a happy ending, but if you work hard enough, I'm sure you'll come through.. And we'll work together." He turned his gaze once more to the other prince. "Alright?"

"But, you know, if you expect flaws, then they're bound to happen. So maybe it's best if we don't expect anything since not thinking about it at all is certainly not wise." His usual cheeky grin had returned and his gaze flicked up momentarily to catch the other's gaze.

He was glad to see the other's eyes rise finally, even if just for that moment. "Are you joking?" he asked. "Fine, here's an idea.. How about you let me do all the thinking? That sounds like a fine plan. That way everything will go accordingly for sure. Because with you.. I'm not so sure I'd feel entirely safe with you making all the calls."

"That's cruel, you know that? I've already planned the whole trip, you know - route and everything. How could everything go according when the one thinking doesn't even have a map?" he asked incredulously. The other had successfully taken his mind off of previous thoughts - partly because he didn't wish to dwell on them - and he acting almost normal again.

"Alright, alright.. You lead the way, but I'll be the brains behind the major things," Dax continued, unphased. "Like.. Just like I was the captain and you were my navigator! Or if the title 'navigator' doesn't suit you, I could always make you my little cabin boy. I can see you pulling that off easily enough."

"I feel so unapriciated," he muttered somewhat sullenly. They were outside the city by now, but close enough that the rode they trod on was still civalized. Isfahel tossed his head and snorted slightly. As if he understood, Sayael looked up and cursed softly. "We should set up camp soon, unless you want to be drenched," he murmured, eyes fixed on the oncoming storm clouds. They seemed to have drifted from their own nation for they were coming from the direction Sayael and Dax were headed. "We need to find somewhere covered - that would be best..."
((Slowing them down and allowing Faryn time. xD ))
