Nelowulf No, i haven't. But if it's a monetary-based system, then it really doesn't make application? That's the beauty of it. It's not a monetary based system. Each character has a wealth score based on their profession and their actions during the RP, and that determines what kind of things they can realistically purchase.
I have to run off to work, but I'll PM you the details later if you wish...

Unless you expect me to pirate a book i neither own, or go out and buy one just for an example, then do what you can. But I'm limited in my methods of acquire something that i may not even use.

Non-military NFUs are tricky there, because unlike Jedi, Sith, and military characters, they have no real goal to achieve. For the Jedi and Sith, the goal is to increase in power. For the military, it's ranks. Everybody else doesn't have anything like that, and credits are a non-issue, so that would be rather pointless.
The only thing I can think of right now is, the more impact and overall activity a character like that has, the more room they get to have fancier stuff, like they've been hard at work and earned the credits to afford whatever things they are. So, a luxury yacht that would normally be considered out of the question for a small-time smuggler, is perfectly fine later on because the smuggler's been doing a lot of things and it's likely he's got enough credits rolling in from all that to afford it.

Danika doesn't seem to have much of a goal for power though. Honestly, she seems content as long as she can dance and have a good time. And a Crime Lord character, a NFU without military rights, would also break that argument since they would probably be obsessed with accruing power and wealth.

That illustrates the difficulty of doing a "gear points" system. If a character starts out as a Crime Lord, or a Pirate Captain (my secondary, still in development), chances are he already has his choice of gear and at least one good ship at his disposal.

Btw, here's a rough sketch of that Wealth Score system I mentioned previously:
The way it would basically work is, every character has a wealth score showing his approximate wealth in relation to other characters. As long as he purchases things that are within his means, the score stays level. For example, if I (in real life) went out and bought a cheap sword, my overall wealth wouldn't be affected. However, if the character wants to buy something that is within his means, but would restrict his spending in the near future (such as buying a kayak or a computer) then his wealth score would go down by a few points. If the character wanted to make an extreme purchase that requires dipping into savings or taking out a loan, such as buying a car (or ship), then his wealth score would drop dramatically.
The wealth score goes up again on a regular basis (if the character has a regular job), and/or whenever characters stumble upon loot that they can get a good price for.
The D20 Modern book has a wealth score of 0 for those Impoverished or In Debt, 1 to 4 for characters Struggling financially, 5 to 10 for the Middle Class, 11 to 15 for the Affluent, 16 to 20 for the Wealthy, 21 to 30 for the Rich, and 31 or higher for the Very Rich. But obviously we could tweak this rating system to fit our needs.
This system could work for any character, be he/she force-user, military, or freelance. Jedi would probably be the least interested and the least rewarded by it, because they don't get a regular paycheck and don't pursue wealth, but they get the benefit of being heroic space-wizards. This wealth system rewards mostly those who pursue wealth, which just makes sense...

Okay, but generally with the wealth score, you roll a D20 plus that to acquire an item with a predetermined difficulty rating.
Remember, we're not trying to make a system for /any/ character, only a reward system for neither jedi nor military member. I don't want to have massive lists of various items, gadgets, gizmos, so that people know what the automatic dc must be to beat. Too complicated compared to a simpler model.

Maybe just go with a few points that are all-purpose for changing and upgrading things.
Like, 2 points could mean, adding an extra blaster and improving a ship's performance, or both points could be for upgrading things, or both used for new items, etc.
Just award those points the same way you would the other stuff.

I don't want to have massive lists of various items, gadgets, gizmos, so that people know what the automatic dc must be to beat. Too complicated compared to a simpler model. That's the way it works in the D20 game, but we could easily take that part out and simplify the system to its basic components, like I illustrated above. At the end of each chapter the player and mods would collaborate over any purchases made, and how their wealth score would rise or fall. The system is based on relative wealth, so no lists are necessary and would probably be counter-productive in the long run.
Anyways, it's just a suggestion. Just trying to help out.

It'd still require a relative amount of moderator work to cross check purchases and whatnot. I've got most of the system hammered out for a more interesting variant, me hopes.

Be interesting to see what you come up with, regardless.
Meanwhile, someone should squash those crickets in the RP. They're beginning to turn into an infestation...

Updated the NFU section finally. Enjoy. If it seems too complicated, might i point out that the Force user difficulty is pretty much the same, so if you can figure one out, you can figure the other.
