Lorey wanted to kiss his eyes, she loved them so much.
"What kind of dog? Not one of those little things you can throw, right?"
If Lorey was going to get a dog, he would have to be big... and not smell. Those were the only ways she would get a big companion like that.

"A retriever maybe? Or a Collie or some other sheep dog...or something..." He seemd to think, loving this whole 'planning their future' thing, even if part of it was jest, he still really wanted it to all happen. "I'm partial to retrievers because we used to visit our uncles farm on holidays...an he had a bunch of dogs. My favorite was the gorgeous Golden retriever I had got to basically grow up with. He was a puppy when I was real little, so he was like my twin..." He smiled in remembrance of the sweet old dog. "Oh man He was smart as a whip too! He knew what speeder we had, and used to go crazy when we'd pull up. He'd always snatch my napsack away and run it to the room I always stayed in when we visited...God I loved him..." He smiled shaking his head. Where they lived in the city never allowed pets so keeping him, ecspecially on account of his size, was a definate no no.

She listened and watched his eyes grow bright with his past. See, Lorey, she thought. There's a bit of happiness. There's the Richard smile and sparkle that existed before you came along.
"Would you like to live out in the country? On a big place so we can have big dogs that run around, in the clean air?"
Clean air... that was one thing Lorey needed a lot of. She remembered being on Altru and feeling sleepy because of all the oxygen entering her system. It shouldn't have had to have been like that. They should have always had clean air...

Richard's eyes got wide as he beamed. he took her shoulders in his hands excitedly. "Thats it! That's it! We'll have a farm! A little old farm house, and a garden, a dog, maybe an animal or two,....and and and we can let the kids run around, and I'll build them a swing, or a tree house or whatever they want! And we'll live long and healthy lives together just you and me!" He seemed so excited at the idea, envisioning it as he spoke with a sparkle i n his eye.

Her laughter started bright and lovely from pure happiness, not stopping until her eyes started misting, until she actually began crying from the very idea.
"Y-yeah, we'll have a big old place out in the quiet country where we can raise a family, and have animals and everything we've wanted. Y-you even remembered the garden..."
People usually didn't remember details like that where she was concerned. Lorey had wanted a garden, and a front porch where you could sit. A lawn, like the soft kind Damian had, and a quiet life with Richard. That was what she wanted most.
"Sorry, I'm just emotional. I-I just never thought I could escape what I had before."

Richard smiled, not realizing he was crying a bit too. He jumped to his feet, pulling Lorey to hers, spinning her around in a daze before hugging her tightly. "Yes I remembered the garden! and yes oh dear Lorey yes, I love you and it doesn't matter! We'll be so happy and-" He was breathless. He took her hand and got on one knee again. "Can I propose to you one more time? no, a Thousand! Since you did tell me a thousand times yes!" He was crying as he looked up at her. "Lorey...we're going to do this..."

She was swept up in happiness before she could scarcely breathe. She was laughing and crying out a bit at the rush, until finally she was set down and looking at Richard on one knee. Tears still blurred her vision, just out of happiness.
"Yes, Richard, I'll marry you. Heck, I'm going to marry you, and no one can stop me!" Poor Lorey needed a tissue so badly but she could sniffle for just a bit longer. Her fingers reached out to take away the tears from Richard's face, knowing those were from happiness, too.
She was his second chance, his salvation from his misery. Lorey had to keep telling herself that. It was her, she was the one...
"I love you, Richard. I love you, and yes, I'll marry you and be stuck with your wonderful self forever."

Richard stood again, hugging her tightly. "Oh God Lorey....How perfect is all this?" he asked, just shaking his head. "I mean...my God....Lorey, If you hadn't come along...I...I don think I'd be here...." He cried holding her so tightly. "And If I hadn;t come along, I dont know if you would be....or at least you'd still be your beautiful self, slaving away and being tormented by people who are beneath you...darling....this is ...just so...wonderful..." Richard rarely got emotional, but it always seemed to pour out around Lorey. This being proven once again now as he cried and just held her and rocked her in his arms.

She thought she'd calmed down, but it all came pouring out again as she thought about it all. Lorey hated thinking about her old bosses, or the terrible, thankless jobs she had to work.
"R-Richard, I probably would be in some terrible job, cleaning toilets and getting yelled at for stupid things like using the wrong air freshener. I probably would have been living on the streets if you hadn't c-come. Things were so bad and I never cried, I just kept going because I thought that's what momma would have wanted..."
It was true, though. Lorey hadn't really started crying about anything until Richard came and picked her up. He showed her it was alright to cry, because he would be there to wipe away the tears.

Richard nodded but could hardly talk as he just held her for a bit longer, not knowing if he'd still be hanging on if it weren't for Lorey. "Darling...I didn't think there'd be anything more to my life other than dimly lit, smoky bars and my own ship...My life seemed to short and pointless, My only goal was to get to the end of my life so I could just die and be with Rose, and the rest of my family, but God...Look how much we've got ahead of us now! Look at the future we get to live out and enjoy!" He cried as he hugged her tightly.

"I know, darling, I know..." Lorey calmed herself down, but still held on to him so she could feel him rocking her back and forth. Her mother used to do that for her on nights when frightening things were happening all around in the apartments. Sometimes, on nights when she was gone, Lorey would rock herself to sleep. No matter how hard she tried, she never could quite capture the same safety she felt from another person.
"I love you... I love you, I love everything you've done and are doing for me. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. There's nothing I can say but I love you and thank you."

"The same for me..." He said, calming himself down as he pulled away, though his hands still holding her face. He tried to wipe away her tears with his thumb but to no avail. He instead went back to the coffee table, grabbed another kleenex and began dabbing her damp face, half laughing but still crying all the while. "Look at us...we're a mess..." he smiled through tears as he tried to dry her up.

"I think we both have enough to be a mess about," she said as she finally managed not to cry. "But we have so much to cry happily over, and we sure did that, didn't we?"
Lorey pulled out a tissue and began to dab his face, too, and held it to his nose so he could use it to blow.
"Everything's going to work out... and I love that feeling."

Richard took the tissue not wanting her to have to suffer his messy nose, but he was still smiling. "I do too..." He shook his head, wiping his eyes vigorously. "...It's all going to work out..." He shook his head in disbelief.

Lorey suddenly gave a yawn. She was so tired from everything that had happened all day. Between work, the excitement of Richard coming to visit, and coming home to him again for a great outpouring... she needed a nap.
"Want to snuggle up again and cuddle on this rainy day?" she asked with a smile. "I think we both need the sleep..."
