Aran heard a lot of commotion downstairs, but didn't think anything bad was going on. So he stopped polishing his equipment and went downstairs "What's going on?" Aran asked as he just caught a glimpse of Siegell going out the door. He saw everyone had a present of item of some sort. Maybe there'd be something there for him, a card at least.

With a nod and grin, Nils put the new flute to his lips and began playing his standard, lighthearted tune, the one he was most well-known for.

Only... it didn't come out that way.

The song turned out to be much different than he intended. It had a more ominous tone, beckoning the listeners to a better place, to a feeling of bliss and unawareness.

It turned the listeners to mindless servants, unmoving unless commanded by the player.
The little dragon bard was completely unaware of the effects and continued playing, though mentally questioning why the song was turning out different than normal...

(( So, yeah. Listeners = brainwashed.
At least, until Nils figures out a way to free them.

Basically, Siegell gave Nils the cursed flute that the Maestro had (check out Daylight Over Hamelin!).
-dun dun duuuuuuuuun- ))

Amelia drifted out of the main room and up the stairs, intent on checking on the decoration progress that had been made up in the library. The notes from Nils' flute never touched her ears.

Blossom looked up as Nils played his flute. "Whah..." she breathed, still clutching onto her tea with glee. Her fingers went slack, and then her eyes glazed over. She stared blankly at Nils, completely still, save for the slight motion of her chest rising and lowering with each breath, unconsciously waiting for a note or a tune to tell her to move.

[[Siegell's in deep trouble when -- if -- he comes back, then~]]

What is happening around here? That just can't be right. everyone is turning...what looks like into zombies. This won't end well for us.

The imp was affected more before Melethia. Since the imp was her way to see and it wasn't able to help her, Melethia couldn't see. The sound was enough to reach her darkness. Her darkness was rising again, but it was too much for her body when the normal part of her was becoming a mindless person and the darkside was trying to keep it in check. She simply passed out.

(I would think this would affect someone with 2 sides to her would go a bit diffrently)

His song ended. Nils looked at his audience, a grin on his face.
Their silence crept him out, though. A lot.

"Uhm... was it that bad?" He walked up to Blossom and waved a hand in her face. Still, there was nothing in the room but silence.

Terror started to grip at him. He trembled slightly as he thought of the possibilities why no one was responding.
None of those possibilities rested well in his mind.

"... Oh god..." He murmured, staring at the flute in his hand. "This flute... It's..." He couldn't bring himself to speak the last word. Still, the word echoed in his mind.
"Cursed."

The bard placed the flute back to his lips, and played the same tune again.
This didn't cure the listeners. In fact, any new listeners were ensnared by the music of the instrument.
He realized the lack-of-change, and he froze. He wanted to cry.

"N-no... This can't be happening... it just can't be!"

(( Apologies in advance for posting multiple times in a row. D: ))

Panic hit the small bard hard. He shook so much, he could barely keep standing.
"C-calm down... just think..."

Remembering the sequence of notes, Nils played the song backwards.
Nothing changed.

He played the song in the original way, but flatted every note.
Nothing changed.

He played the song in the original way, but sharped ever note.
Nothing changed.

He played the song backwards, flatting every note intentionally.
Nothing changed.

He played the song backwards, sharping every note.
Still, nothing changed.

Tears began to form in his eyes. He hit his head with his fist multiple times.
"Think, Nils, think! Think, think, think..."

Bartre walked into the room, and saw people in there almost statue like.
"What happened in here...oh hey Nils. Do you know why the people here are like this?"

Nils ignored Bartre, too wrapped up in panic and worry and a bunch of other emotions to even think straight.

Which explains why he tried to play the actual flute backwards, in hopes that would free his friends.
Just as with the previous attempts, nothing changed.

He fell to his knees, tears rolling down his cheeks. The flute dropped to the ground.
Even now, he couldn't help but stare at it. Although cursed, it still was a beautiful flute, shining in the light.

It was then that Nils realized something.

"There's... markings." Curiously, he ran his fingertips over the engravings, running up the side of the instrument.
"What could it mean...?"
PostPosted: Sat Dec 27, 2008 11:40 am

The bard ran his fingertips over the engravings, mesmerized. It seemed... familiar to him. Too familiar. He felt like he knew what it was. It was obvious. Really, really obvious!

... But still, he couldn't remember. He wiped his eyes in frustration, trying to understand what the lines and dots could mean.

"Wait. Lines and dots? ... Of course!"

Sue had, due to the melody's effects, ceased moving. She had no thoughts in her mind whatsoever...

Victoria's resistance to the magic behind the flute was a bit better, and she didn't like what was going on around her at all. "That bard... something's different about him!"
PostPosted: Sat Dec 27, 2008 11:58 am

Nils wanted to slap himself silly.
"Why didn't I realize this sooner?" He ran his fingertips again over the design, trying to get the answer from the instrument itself.
"That's it! This has to be it!"

Bringing the flute to his lips once more, he played the instrument again, following the score of music engraved onto the instrument.
The tune began solemn, as if there was no hope, that things will always be dark, but suddenly... it changed. Suddenly, the music turned to a more upbeat tone, showing the light shining through the shadows, the bright side through the dark, the hope through the despair.

The song reached the last note, held out by a fermata.

And then, it was over. The music shattered the effects of the cursed song, freeing them from the unawareness and bringing them back to reality.

The bard wept with relief.

Blossom blinked as the last note rang out, then ended. She rubbed one eye, shook her head rather like a dog, and sat up. "What just happened?" she asked curiously, sounding more confused than anything else. "I think I might've zoned out right there... Nils!" Blossom rushed over to the bard. "Are you okay? Are you hurt? You're crying!"

[[I think Nils might be the only person around there that's anywhere near her height. *snicker*]]

Melethia's little imp was woken from it's trance. It flew its way to Melethia to try to wake up. Her eyes opened.

"Man that was messed up." She said holding her head.

(( ... You're probably right, too. xD ))

Nils dropped the flute Siegell had given him, letting it roll a few feet away from him. He didn't want to look or hold that cursed thing anymore.

"B-Blossom... I-I'm so sorry... I... I don't know what happened..." He sobbed, covering his face with his hands. "I-I'm so sorry..."
