Cody sniffed and wrapped his arms around Toby. "But he's not here," he sniffed again.

Toby took a deep breath and let it out.
"I know. I wish he was." He let the silence stretch a while as he rubbed Cody's shoulder before speaking again.
"Do you want to come to my place? Maia's there, and I don't want either of you to be alone."

Cody studied Toby for a long moment. His frown deepened. "I want to be alone," he said. He didn't want to see Maia. He didn't want to see the house. "...Do you think I'd die if I ate that wolfsbane stuff?" He asked.

"You shouldn't be alone," Toby defended. Even all of this suicide stuff aside, nobody grieving over this should be alone, "and no, you wouldn't."

"That--" Cody protested, but seemed to think better of it. He nodded, pushing himself up off of the couch. "Fine," he agreed. He wiped at his eyes. "How did you...how?"
How did you go on after losing someone?

"Come on," Toby said. He stood and nodded into the room in general. "Grab what you might need for tonight. "How did I... what?"

Cody looked around. He picked up a white Walmart bag and went into his room for only a moment. He selected a pair of pajamas and packed his tooth brush. He was wiping his eyes again when he left the bathroom.
"How did you live? After losing her?"

"Come on," he said again, and looped an arm around Cody's back to guide him out. "At least we can be miserable together."

When they reached Toby's house, the werewolf was even less sure. Maia was going to be hurt so badly. She had grown to like Dari first, after all. They did a lot of things together that Toby knew nothing about himself. He could never replace the alien, in very many ways.
He opened the door and gestured for Cody to enter ahead of him.
"Maia!"

Maia didn't respond. Cody looked around the room and paused. "Maybe she's in the kitchen?" He suggested. He wasn't sure if the selkie had the same habit his mother had; to bake in times of trouble. He wandered into the kitchen.
"Not here," he said.

Toby grunted and tossed his recently-unworn jacket and tie to the couch. He'd bother with them later. Rather than check the rooms inside, he peered out the window nearest the garden, shoving it open to crane his neck out.

No, Maia wasn't out in the garden either.
Cody was frowning in concern. "Maybe...she left to go see Lori?" He suggested. He headed upstairs. No, she hadn't gone to see Lori. He could hear her from behind the closed door. He headed back downstairs. "She's in your room," he said.

Toby heard Cody as he closed and latched the window. That had been his next plan.
"Thanks," he said. "Go ahead and get a drink if you want, anything. Make yourself at home." As per usual. He went up to their room and tried the knob.
"Maia, I'm home."

Cody instead headed for the couch and flopped himself down. He didn't want anything. His stomach felt full, but he hadn't eaten. He felt sick at the idea of taking anything. He buried his face into one of the pillows.
Maia looked up at Toby's voice. She sniffed and tried to stop the tears. She stood and went to unlock the door, and opening it, she wrapped her arms around him.
