Lady Liriel Baenre >v< I want a Mystery snail. How do you take care of them? They just eat up what your fish don't. Supposedly they eat algae too, but mine doesn't. :/ But if you want JUST the snails, you could feed them bits of like, lettuce and stuff. Fish flakes if you have'em. They DO play dead though, FYI. For like.. days. Then suddenly they're back at it. Weird. as. hell. Scientists STILL have not figured out why.

xD Do they have to be underwater?
Or can they survive on land like a crab?

XD you can keep the betta in just about anything separate if it doesn't work out. Of course, he'd love you forever if you could put him in something 1-2 gallons. That's what Malice was in before his filter went kaput on me. :/
and if you're really worried about that but still want a betta, try a female one (petco/petsmart always has them). They're less angsty.

Lady Liriel Baenre xD Do they have to be underwater? Or can they survive on land like a crab? They're fully aquatic, yes. Same with Dwarf and African clawed frogs. None of them can survive on land. and remember: -DWARF clawed frogs = about 2" -AFRICAN clawed frogs = like... as big as my hand. They're huge. Start OUT teeny, but they get really damn big.

You could get like... a plastic tub at petco for 10-12 bucks and keep a snail, DCF, AND a betta in it. They have micro filters too for 10 bucks. Sanity saver. I'm tellin' ya. and Z, you could also do just that if you want your own betta for yourself. Just get a good sized (medium-large) critter keeper, put a little gravel in the bottom and a couple decorations and keep your own betta, separate. I love'em. ^.^ Malice is a BEAUTIFUL dark purple, electric blue, magenta, and black male.

alright, i'll see if i could scrape together a gallon-tank and keep it safe from my cats... >.> other than that though, i wanna know if keeping a crab or two could be a good choice instead of the snail, or would that not keep well with teh fish? i know certain species of fish like to eat crabs, and vice versa.

I don't know about crabs all that much. Ghost shrimp are good, but crabs? I have no clue. I've never kept'em.
