rubbing sleepy eyes, wren stumbled warily into the demented muffin, smiling dazedly as she left the brilliant sunshine.
i'm finally home...
tears welled up in her eyes. she'd been gone for too long.

Interestingly enough, Cerridwyn entered the Muffin not long after Wren, a rather worried expression on her face. When she saw the other female however, she smiled. Cerri was different now; her hair was shorter but still streaked with white, and her left eye was covered by a patch. "Hello little one."

Wren turned, surprised. "Cerri?!?" Quickly rubbing her tear streaked face, she beamed. "It IS you!" Practically diving at her, she tried to transfer her absolute joy into every inch of her overjoyed hug. "How are you?" She gasped happily, "And what have you done with your hair?"

Laughing, Cerri returned the hug fiercely, then smiled down at the girl. "Well... after I died, I needed the change." she told the girl easily, then ruffled her hair. "How have you been, sweetheart?"

Looking a bit bewildered by the response, Wren smiled and replied with the same casual tone, "Well, i guess deaging eight years, having my animal genes forcibly removed, and running from large scary looking soldiers for three months is a pretty accurate summary. as if being a short eighteen year old wasnt bad enough. now im a ten year old with the wisdom of ages." She chuckled dryly.

Cerridwyn gave a low whistle, then shook her head. "Sorry you had to go through that hon. I would have been there for you if I could, but, well... a lot's happened. Want some hot chocolate?" she asked, smiling at her gently.

Wren grinned. "of course. chocolate solves everything. i didnt mind being alone. the hard part was the emotionless glint in my mothers eyes as she put me out for her experiments. i swear the soldiers brainwashed her. though, its not like my dad gives a flying flip."

"Chocolate doesn't solve everything, but it does put things into perspective." Cerri corrected, single eye full of warmth. "And you're home now... no more emotionless mothers or experiments." she ruffled the girl's hair again, then headed to the kitchen to make the drink.

Wren smoothed down her auburn shoulder length hair. so true... She shook her head and stepped into the kitchen. ah...she thought, uttely at peace. this kitchen smells even better than i remember. Smiling grandly, she leaned against the counter and tilted her head back, taking in the feel of the cozy room.

"So... have you heard from Juno lately?" Cerri asked, leaning against another counter after mixing the drink, waiting for it to heat. "And why on earth wasn't he helping you while everything went down?"

Wren's eyes slipped down into a hurt expression. "No. He was on duty while it happened. It just...came out of the blue. They came up behind me one day while i was out getting groceries, and dragged me off. I havent seen or heard from him since. I dont even think he knows where i am. geez, i miss him. he always knew how to make me smile. even back in the days when i was locked in at the base, he was there every day."

"I'm sorry sweetheart." Cerri whispered, stepping forward to stroke the girl's brow. "I didn't mean to hurt you." Sighing, she shook her head; she'd already made a mess of things, and she'd been back for less than an hour. "Sorry."

Wren sighed, wrapping her arms around her waist. "Its not your fault. We can't all be mind readers." She chuckled, "Besides, even though it hurts, I know it will get better. Talking always helps, no matter who tells you otherwise."

((Slipped into Lily-color. xp ))

Cerri smiled a little sadly, then nodded. "Yeah. Talking helps... that's a good attitude to have." she commented, then poured two cups of steaming cocoa, handing one to Wren. "There you go, hon."

((*cracks up* its ok.))

Wren smiled. "Thanks." Sipping the cocoa siliently, suddenly she burst out laughing. "You know, to any normal person, talking so sagely to a ten year old would be the strangest experience ever. Even stranger if she responded with the eloquency of a veteran of life. And yet...here we are." She took another sip of cocoa, smirking.
