The nymph that had now braided a length of Holly's hair with tiny fingers took to the sky so as to not be tumbled into the water.
"We'll lift on three, alright?" Toby asked, first looking to Holly and then to Maia. "Ooone. Twoooo. --"

"Three!" Maia chimed in, taking the toddler's hand and lifting her along with Toby.
When Holly's feet touched the water, she giggled. She kicked at the water a few times, then looked up at Toby. "Poppy come in!" She invited.

When Toby was sure the baby was steady, he let her hand go and jumped in beside her. Water splashed up onto her legs, but she mustn't mind if they were back here again. He turned to Maia.
"Maia's turn!"

Maia was pulling off her shoes. She jumped in, pausing only momentarily. Brrr! "It's cold," she said. But the baby seemed fine with it!
"Splash, Maia!" Holly said, before splashing the selkie. "Splash Poppy!" She bent and splashed him as well.

Toby leaned down as far as he could and splashed the nymph lightly. She must not be the cold-fearing sort at all! That was good to know. She seemed to have liked her coats anyway.

Holly sent a splash back and giggled. "Poppy wet," she observed, before looking to Maia expectantly. "Splash Poppy!" She instructed.
Maia bent and splashed at Toby. "Are we ganging up on him?" She asked.

"Oh no!" Toby yelled. He remained bent over so some drips may land on his face for the baby's amusement. "How'd you get Maia to help you? Oh no!"

"Poppy is all wet!" Holly giggled, straightening to wrap her arms around his legs. "We get Maia all wet now, Poppy? Let's get Maia all wet! "
Maia gasped. "You're working against me now?" She teased. She looked to Toby and smiled.

"I am!" He happily pet Holly's hair and then looked up to Maia. "Oh no! Maia's turn now?"
The look on Maia's face said she wouldn't mind all that much. If she had seemed put-off he would have denied and distracted the child. He dipped his hand into the water and flicked drips at Maia.

Holly splashed water at Maia as well. "All wet now!" She announced, before looking to Toby. "Poppy play more?" She asked. "Story now, Poppy?"
"She didn't want to stay still enough earlier," Maia grinned at Toby.

"Well, she's still a peanut," Toby said with a laugh. "I'm going to have to change if it's story time! We don't want to get too cold. We cna head back and read a story, though, sure."

"Poppy change!" Holly agreed, beaming. Story time with Toby was one of her favorite things. "Poppy, lots this time? Lots?"
Maia was grinning. "C'mon love, let's get you into some dry clothes."

Toby held his arms out to pick the child up. It'd be faster to carry her back to camp than to walk at her pace.
"Lots? How many is lots? I think maybe we can read a few, how's that? A 'few' is usually three."

Once picked up, Holly wrapped her arms around Toby's neck. She was frowning thoughtfully. 'A few' didn't sound as appealing as 'lots', but it was the same number she'd hoped for. "A few," she agreed.

Toby nodded. "Alright. We'll read a few."
Leaving was hard, but Toby reassured the little nymph that they would be back and said goodbye to a tribe of very pleased sprites. It wasn't until two weeks later than Toby had another little event to keep him occupied.
He curiously sniffed a display cake. That... was not cake. Of course that was probably a good thing. You didn't want to spend hours decorating and a few minutes rotting it under store lights.
When calling, he had tried very hard to not tell them that it was a wedding, but the clerk had asked and he had relented with a sigh. Hopefully their regular purchases would help them out monetarily when it came to a wedding cake. Really, why did they cost so much more when they were no more fancy than anything else?
