At any rate, thanks to your help I managed to beat the Subway Boss and thanks to that I now understand how the subway works. Basically, you go through 21 battles on the Single or Double Train. When you beat the Boss it unlocks the Super train, and beating those two is what gets you the trainer card star. So that means, you don't have to start from the very beginning again if you get really far and lose. (That was a pain in the tower, getting 40 wins and then losing).
