"Only when cold," Holly agreed. She nodded and looked back inside. She pulled a shirt out, studied it and hugged it. "Poppy, so many things!" Would he always bring so many? The forest might get filled up if he did...
She looked back inside, and pulled out several pairs of socks. She immediately put one on her hand. "Monster!" She waved at Toby. "Rawr!"

"Well, we wanted to bring you presents!"
Sock puppets, apparently, were the great unifier of worlds. Maybe Reese had taught her how, but maybe not. He pulled out a pair, popped them apart, and motioned for her feet. "Gimmee those toosties."

"Like presents!" Holly assured Toby brightly.
The toddler paused, then sat to give Toby access to her feet. What for? She took the sock off her hand, opened it with both and peered inside.

When the toddler offered her feet, Toby pulled some socks up and smiled.
"Socks! To keep your feet warm!" Nymphs usually didn't wear anything on their feet, but Reese had expressed that he didn't want his little friend falling asleep in the winter.

Warm feet? Holly was amazed. She smiled brightly and pulled out a pair of rubber boots. "Socks!" She said, looking to Toby. They didn't look like they'd fit on her hands, though.

"Those are boots!" he said, "See? They're made of rubber. That's this feeling." He reached down to touch her boots in the hopes that she would mimic him. "You wear them if you want to jump in puddles, because that might hurt your other shoes. You're doing very good, though! Those do go on your feet!"

"Boots!" Holly echoed. She reached down to feel them. Rubber definitely had a unique feeling! "Puddles!" She grinned. She knew that word. Reese complained when she played in them.
"Jump in puddles, Poppy?"

"Sure!" Toby said. He motioned to the things that she had already pulled out. "Every time we open the box, we have to put everything inside and close it again, or we might lose our presents, okay?"

She had to put things away? That made presents less fun! "Okay," she agreed. She opened the trunk again and began putting things inside. "Not Poppy," she said, offering Toby the little wolf.

"Okay, I'll hold him." Toby took the rubber wolf and helped Holly put the toys away, let her latch the trunk, offered her Little Poppy, and squatted to pick her up. "Ready?"

The nymph accepted her wolf, and wrapped her arms around Toby's neck when he bent to pick her up. "Let's go, Poppy!" She smiled at him. "Puddles?"

"Do you know where some puddles are?" Toby asked. They could find the river no problem, considering they had a survey of the land in the van, but Holly learning her way around was a good thing. Plus, it might tell whether or not she had a perfect memory for the lay of the land.

"Creek!" Holly pointed left. "Puddles there!" Sometimes, anyway. Sometimes they dried out. "Poppy jump in puddles too," she said, then.

"I can't, honey. These--" No. No, that wasn't true. His shoes were just fine. He wasn't in uniform, after all. How would they explain three uniformed FBI agents in the woods if someone were to stumble upon them, or if a cop had stopped them on the road? "Yeah. Sure. I don't see why not."
When they came near enough to the creek, he could hear the water running and simply followed the sound.

Holly rewarded Toby with a smile. She could hear the creek gurgling, but it didn't seem like there were any puddles near by. They must have dried up.
She looked around. "We jump in creek?" She suggested, with a shrug of her shoulders.
