Kaegan frowned, shaking his head back and forth as they walked away. The kid didn't deserve that kind of abuse. Isiah was right. Alex was, in fact, the antichrist.

Isiah took more time than he should have recovering from the brief endeavor. He remained in a dangerous, angry fervor for what seemed like weeks before putting the thing behind him.

Betrayal was not something Isiah forgave, and Kaegan of all people knew it. Isiah had taken years to forgive Kaegan for letting the others go through with the old, archaic, and previously thought to be out of practice shame ceremony- the same that had given Isiah the fateful below the belt etchings and the symbol beneath the back of his hairline.

Even then, the trust that they had once shared would never be the same. Kaegan had never given Isiah any sort of a verbal apology, but it was implied. Implication wasn't enough.

Kaegan watched with a wary eye as Isiah continued regaining his former glory within their new, makeshift denzien clan- he made sure Isiah's dealings with the younger and lesser ranking were stern but compassionate, which had always been Isiah's problem previously. He was doing well, though he could tell Isiah was still wounded. It would take time.

He fell into a relationship with the only other gay available, much to the silent dismay of Kaegan. The old denzien addage of procreation- the same that had gained Isiah all that pain- was dead now, because of the fall. These times were not ripe for children.

Despite the negatively charged environ, Connor- the other- and Isiah hit it off in a strange, adverse way. They complimented each other in their difference. Though Kaegan was at first hesitant to think that any sort of gay relations could be good, Connor seemed to level Isiah out- make him more sensible, less emotional- and it certainly kept Isiah's mind off of the past and all the painful things life had once brought him.

Tsurai and Alex, on the otherhand, had gone to the first town, where Cyrus had been.
There, they found nothing they needed. They did find some things, however, so took those, and went on.

When they got back to their sewer home, the person had already died. Tsurai felt so guilty, and Alex seemed to feel the same, but shrugged it off to Tsurai as an inevitability.

Eventually, Alex got sick. Tsurai thought he was doomed, so tried to get other people to help Alex, since she had helped them.
But they all stayed away.
In an unrelated accident, the only child in the town - a toddler- found the switchblade Alex and Tsurai kept, and decided to play connect-the-dots of Tsurai's spine with it.
Alex stitched Tsurai's back up, adding a new scar and taking away the last of Tsurai's feeling in his backside.
Alex had said that if the blade had gone down any deeper, Tsurai would've been paralyzed.

Later on, the woman became an invalid, and after Tsurai had gotten the stitches taken out, she died, too.

The now-twenty year old didn't know what to do with himself, and tried staying in the stable town. But he couldn't stand staying in one place for so long.
The DuPloys had several houses and Tsurai was used to walking inbetween all of them; his travels after the Fallout increased the feeling of needing to move.
He took long trips down each side of the sewers that weren't inhabitated, strengthening his legs, but after exploring it all countless times, he began getting bored and paranoid about the walls closing in on him.

Neighbors and friends suggested he go out again, but he didn't know where else to go.

Connor, on the other hand, knew exactly where he was, what he wanted, and was mentally stable. He was tall - nearly six feet- and slightly tanned. A tattoo at the top of his arm showed a crescent moon and five-pointed star, which could've meant many things, but the man of 24 never talked about it.
His hair was dark brown and cropped short enough to stand up on it's own, yet still have a few stray hairs in his face.
A scowl was almost always present on him, and if not that, then a frown or some sign of no emotion. He hardly ever smiled, but that didn't mean he was having a bad time.

Blue eyes looked to Isiah, who was sitting and smoking again, no doubt thinking about past occurances of somesort.
"One of these days there won't be any more cigs to smoke, you know. Then where will you be?" A rhetorical question.
"You should really try and get away from it, Isiah."
Connor was standing over the other man, but his gaze quickly averted to the group of Denziens off near the well with a "hmph". Kaegan was saying something to them, but they were too far off to make it out.

Isiah gave Connor a gentle half hearted smile- more of a smirk, really- before shrugging. "Well I dunno, Connor. If the rain ever peters out the rest of it's acidic.. whatever, I might be able to grow some tobacco." He took another brief drag before turning to watch Kaegan with the youth, absently. Some things don't change. "Or I could just skip that step entirely and just go with marijuana."

He was joking, of course. He doubted the rain would ever be safe enough to grow something with if you couldn't, at the very least, drink it. People were working on finding a decent filtration system, but so far for all the effort only cups of water had been produced- drinkable water. He wondered vaguely, after the system was completed, what they would do with all the leftover undesireables.

He liked Connor's seriousness, his stability. Even if he was nearly humorless. The lack of humor was what made Connor so amusing, in actuality. His inability to laugh at the blatantly funny was comical.

"What are you checking out Kaegan for? He's too old for you." Joking, again.

Connor frowned deeper than usual. "Even if the rain was clean, there aren't any seeds to plant, nor nutrition in this.." He looked down and kicked the ground, dust flying up. ".. Sand."

Looking back up again, he watched Kaegan some more. "I'm not looking at him like that, and you know it. I'm just watching." With a sigh, he looked back to Isiah, shoving his hands in his pockets. "I still don't understand why you'd willingly obstruct your bodies with all that ink to denote hierarchy."

Connor hmphed once more and sat down, across from Isiah, legs crossed before him. "Don't approve of it, either."

Isiah smiled at connor warmly, shaking his head back and forth. "It's not just for rank, Connor, I told you that. It's part of our culture. Rank plays a part of it, but not nearly as much as explaining our past via skinart. Besides," He looked down at his forearms. "I happen to think they look pretty good."

He paused. "And doesn't marijuana grow in anything? Even sand?"

"I think they overdo it."
Connor looked over to Kaegan, watching. Connor was a quiet person, just liked watching everything. He hardly did anything else- that anyone knew about, anyway.

Looking back toward Isiah at the last comment, he tossed up his hands, "I wouldn't know."

Eying Kaegan once more, a few moments passed before something seemed to catch Connor's attention. Standing up to get a better look, he placed his right hand over his eyes to block out the sun at the very faint dot of a shape coming up from Kaegan's direction.

"Someone's coming," He stated, a very minute hint of excitement in his voice.

Instinctively, Connor went rigid while starting to walk toward the dot that was still about half a mile off.

Isiah answered the 'over doing' comment with a mature, "That's because you're a sissssssssssssssyyyyyyy." Before standing and following Connor's gaze to the dot off in the distance. He turned his head and barked for Kaegan to follow Connor, as it was Kaegan's duty.

Kaegan nodded and muttered a quick apology to his so called students and headed after Connor, squinting. His eyesight was going as he neared fifty, but he struggled to keep it from the radar of most. "Tell me again what you told Isiah you saw?"
PostPosted: Fri Aug 05, 2005 3:31 pm

Connor stopped when Kaegan asked him the question. He gave a slight growl of disappointment, as the dot he was following also stopped.

"I think he saw us. Hrmph." Blue eyes turned to Kaegan.
"Don't know ywt. It's just a dot. Looks like a person. Alone."
He looked back to the dot, who had started moving again.

"We'll have to wait and see what it really is. Too far away to tell." Connor let out a low groan while facing Kaegan. "You're getting to old for this, you know."

"I do," He answered, simply. "I'll go the same way every old alpha does. It's none of your concern."

He shoved his hands into his pockets, stopping next to Connor on the outskirts of the shade, built by tarps on flimsy stands. The town had changed in terms of shelter- bogarted brick and mortar, discoveries of tube caulk and other building materials had meant that the acid-rain water, which was undrinkable, could be used with the mud like substance beneath sand to fashion cheap but sturdy walls, baked by sunlight.

Denziens had an incredible work ethic, as it turned out. Most of the people who couldn't hold their weight were expelled, and those who stayed joined into the tribe for the supposed protection they would recieve. But Kaegan played no favorites. He never had.

He brushed a length of white and red hair out of his eyes and behind his ear, scratching along his beard with a frown. "It's been too long since we've seen an outsider. I was wondering when it'd happen."

"And what are you going to do with it?" Connor crossed his arms over his shirt, wife beater as thin and dirty as some old toilet paper.. That hadn't been used, of course.

"Not kill him, I hope."

Kaegan raised a brow, turning his head to face Connor briefly. "All this time you've lived here, and you think I'll kill him?.. Or her, as the case may be." He turned back to watch as the dot moved closer. "I'd expected a little more of you, Connor."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 05, 2005 3:54 pm

A noise came from his throat. It sounded like a weird mix between a growl and a "hmm".

"I'm not a Denzien, and I don't exactly like you culture, but I'm stuck with it, aren't I?"
Then he finished up, protecting himself, "But I'm only a scout, what do I know?"

Kaegan grunted. "Big words for someone who hasn't moved his a** an inch away from the people he dislikes. Actions speak louder than words. If you don't like Denziens, then leave."

Kaegan was less than sympathetic to whiners. Especially if they just liked to sit on their laurels and do nothing to remedy it. But Isiah saw something in him that Kaegan couldn't. Nor would he really want to.

Connor sighed. "You know exactly why I won't leave." He looked back over to the dot, that was now just vaguely visable.

He noticed the shirt's design though. And despite not knowing Isiah when the event had happened, he still saw it.
"I have a bad feeling about this..."

He squinted, shielding his eyes again. "But it doesn't look like he brought that woman with him, this time. Wonder what's up."

Kaegan squinted harder but still couldn't make anything out. "Describe it to me," He started slowly. He wasn't being rude, simply asking for a favor.

Isiah joined Connor next, his eyes widening and then shutting, a deep sigh raising then lowering his shoulders. He turned around and tried to find somewhere where he could hide, though it would seem to Kaegan just to be disinterest. "Someday I'll teach that boy.."
