*Sigh* Well, it seems that I have unknowingly started another LTD on the "Who did Cloud really like" thread. I'll just be frank about Cloud and Aeris. As far as the first disk is concerned I think Cloud liked both Aeris and Tifa equally, as far as romance is concerned. However there is no way he could LOVE anyone at that point in time. People seem to forget that the guy was an emotional wreck, not to mention that Sephiroth kept messing with his head. Having true love for someone is making a commitment. There is no way Cloud could commit to anyone being as psychologically damaged as he was. Perhaps if Aeris were still around after he had gotten him memories back, it would be a different story but that's not what happened. For the sake of argument, even assuming that he was fine (Which he wasn't) He didn't have enough progression with either girl in the first disk to constitute any kind love. Anyway that's how I see it. Feel free to agree or disagree.

I definitely agree with you, mostly. When I first played the game, I didn't like Aeris, but I could see the chemistry between her and Cloud, but that chemistry didn't diminish the one he has for Tifa, either. I agree that Cloud loved them both the same, and the moment that I REALLY started to support Cloti was when Tifa helped Cloud in his subconsious mind. I also started leaning towards Cloti, when before this happened, Aeris seemed to mention that she saw all of these similiarities to Zack in Cloud, and that she wanted to know the real Cloud a lot. So I thought, "Hm... Tifa never has doubts like these", you know? Then, when Aeris died, I could tell that he definitely cared deeply about her, though I can't say if this represents a romantic love or not, because if any other character had died, he may or may not of acted the same towards them. Like, if Tifa had died. I'm sure it'd of been just as tragic. My other mindset is what I mentioned before on the "who does Cloud really love" thread. That after seeing Zack die, and not feeling like he could protect Tifa and keep her promise, seeing Aeris die was the final straw. All of the pain gathered in his heart at that moment seemed to be unleashed. I also think that Aeris's death was a lot more tragic, and Cloud HIMSELF was almost forced to kill her. He was used as a puppet, his mind was played on, all of these contribute to his depression. I can't say that "just Aeris" was the source.
And after disk one, I leaned even more towards Cloti, and not because Aeris was dead. Because, even though she was dead it's obvious that Cloud thought of her constantly, in fact, they all did. I believed in Cloti more, because Cloud and her shared some really, true, genuine moments afterwards that pulled me even deeper into the fandom of their realationship.
ANOTHER opinion that I have, is that Cloud loves both of them, but can't choose. X_X; I mean, this is just a maybe, but maybe so.

Oh wait.....The promised land is the place where Ancients can go right? Hmm.....I wonder if Aeris ever went to the promised land? Last we know is that she was travelling the lifestream.

Was there even REALLY a Promised Land? As far as a recollect, it didn't reall exsist..

Well yeah, she was part of the lifestream, but she had a special ability, able to travel and invoke people that she met during the course of her life. I suppose that it's because she's an ancient, but if she has that sort of ability, I was thinking that maybe the promised land did exist. I mean, she could've met her mother if she wanted to, but she didn't......and I'm thinking that maybe she couldn't because her mom was somewhere else.

Actually it says in The Maddin that she will eventually become a part of the life stream. Remember how she was able to talk to her mother before but then couldn't after a while. It will be the same with Aeris.
