I has a question! While cleaning my room I found my Nid's Codex (yay!), well I was reading it about the Ripper Swarms and it mentions them being mindless. Well most Nids are mindless correct?

No, only Rippers are. Because only Rippers have the 'Mindless' rule.

Dragonzealot
But it also said that since they are eating machines of death (in more fancier terms) that they did not follow the instinctive behavior rule.

So my question is. Do they need Synapses Creatures, or can they go Willy Nilly like Gene Steelers?

Just like Genestealers, Rippers don't need Synapse. In fact, Rippers gain zero benefit from Synapse.

Amegetsu
Not confusing at all. No they don't go "willy nilly" if out of synapse, You don't need to roll the leadership at the movement phase or any of that and they're still fearless, but you do lose the advantage of synapse like immunity to the instant death rule.

Except that Synapse specifically excludes Rippers from benefiting from immunity to Instant Death. Rippers don't really lose anything for being out of Synapse.

The only thing you have to look out for mainly is Carnifexes, Lictors, and Raveners. All have to worry about synapse. The carnifex is not immune to the synapse rule because of him being fearless. It just means that he cannot flee, but if he fails his test he will be required to lurk.

As for Lictors, although they are a great surprise unit, without the synapse within range they will die from powerfists.

Heh, might as well post here.

I play a Tyranid army, not a very big one at the moment (in the neighborhood of 1,000 points) but I've still gotten some victories.

I more or less just have the army box and some blisters I picked up to bolster it. Oh, and Old One Eye. That thing has saved my a** against my brother's Leman Russ, lol.

So, uh, yeah.
Whats an old one eye? can you post a pic here?

"Old One Eye" was a named carnifex, before the newest codex nixed him....now the nids' are back to zero special characters, boo.

So How do you guys feel about the Genestealer Cults? I'm starting an army myself, and I was wondering what you guys thought.

Genestealer cult was good, a mix of guard (Cheap human troops and tanks) with the genestealers added for a good assault punch....I think they have potential.

Lictors are really not a great surprise unit. The first couple times you surprise someone with a Lictor, yeah, great. But anyone who has some experience with them counters Lictors really easily. Especially for sit and shoot armies. All they have to do is deploy their troops into terrain rather than just outside of it, and oh look, you can't Deep Strike into this terrain without exploding by coming within 1" of enemy models. Not only that, but with only 4 attacks on the charge, chances are he'll kill one or two guys, and then get beat to death by high-tech 2x4's, missile tubes, or rifle butts. T4 helps him against Guard, Eldar and Tau, but he is not impressive at all for what he costs. The best way to use Lictors is to go after unguarded artillery pieces like Whirlwinds or Basilisks, which sit behind cover instead of in it.

That sounds word for word like what happened to me the first time I ever fought a lictor. I hadnt really read the tyranid codex, and my opponent popped his lictor out into a squad of my marines who were in some ruins. Looking at the model, and based on what I had heard I thought "holy s**t, there goes my unit", he killed one marine, and then got beat to death by bolter butts.

Very anti climactic.

No. Lictors have a built in Cover save, not invul, so in CC they're forced to rely on their bad (regular Lictor) or awful (Death Leaper) armor save.

I was meaning to bring that up.... What is the major deference about Death Leapers compared to Lictors?

As I recall, a point of save and an extra attack. Of course, you could have always used some really basic Google-fu and found his stats yourself.
