"So you've reduced yourself to threatening me now, have you? That is low, Lucy-kinz.. very low," he said with a displeased frown. On the inside he was fuming over the fact that only Sayael could change him back to normal. Well, he was sure there was someone else in the world with very powerful magic who could reverse the spell.. But what were the chances of that happening? "Sometimes I start to think you don't care about how I feel about this at all."

He shrugged. "Low, high, what's the difference? Doesn't matter as long as I get what I want - can't you see? Nothing else matters but freedom." He patted Isfahel on the neck. "Isn't that right, Izzy?" He then straightened up and looked back over at 'Ellian.' "I'd have thought you'd agree. I mean, I can't see how you could possibly stand being stuck in one kingdom for your whole life while I can barely stand staying inside the Nation."

What he thought was just going to turn into another one of their short-termed, childish arguments became a subject of freedom. "I had accepted the fact that I wasn't going to get out is all," Dax replied. "You know how guarded I was. It was fine to dream about places beyond the kingdoms, but until you came along.. It's not just dreaming anymore. I guess.. you were my boost to do something more than just imagine."

"Never accept your fate - you can always change it," he said, smiling. "But I'm glad that I helped you out of your state of being trapped." He was speaking seriously for once, a light smile on his lips as he looked across at Dax. "Anyway, you're fun to talk to so it's good you're with me."

"Are you sure that it's I'm fun to talk to or do you just like riling me up?" he asked jokingly, returning the other's smile. "I suppose I'll hold off my thanking you for bringing me along until we actually get somewhere, though. I don't want you get too big-headed just yet."

He shrugged. "Either way. It's about the same, don't you think?" he said, grinning slightly. "But it's certainly better than traveling alone. It can get very boring after years of that. I used to travel in with the merchants just for a little company, but I had to pay for that."

"They.. made you pay to travel with them? Or maybe they were making you pay for them having to put up with you. Hm.. It seems they have the right idea," Dax said. "I should start making you pay me for the same, but I doubt you would be able to produce enough coin for that."

Sayael rolled his eyes. "When you travel with a pack of traders in order to be a large group and thus have more protection as well as food that is provided, then you have to pay. It's custom." The other had certainly been living under a rather large rock.

".. You shouldn't trust strangers, Lucian. Especially merchants," he said as if his reasoning was obvious. "They're only after your money and they'll do about anything to get it." .. Or was that thieves? Well, they were both about the same, he thought. "You trust people too easily."
PostPosted: Thu Aug 03, 2006 12:47 pm

"No, I don't. I hardly trust anyone," he said, his bright smile in pefect contrast with his words. "I was just bored with traveling alone. You won't understand - I'm sure your mother has never left you alone so you've always wanted to be by yourself. Am I right?"

Dax dropped his eyes to the ground as they rode on, giving a silent nod. Sayael was basically right. There was always someone there when he needed them and even when he didn't. "Growing up, I was always told of the dangers outside of the palace," he said. "So as a child, I feared what would come of being alone even though I always acted like I wanted no one around.. I've grown up since then and have come to treasure the time I have with myself, but occasionally.. the thought of being completely alone in the world." He paused a short moment. "It's sort of frightening."

"I... I don't think we are ever truly alone... In my case, I always had Isfahel, but since he can't speak human and I got tired of my voice being the only one I knew, I began to travel with others." He glanced over breifly at the other, nodding his head slightly. "But the thought of truly being alone... it's horrible..." He paused for a moment and then went on, looking slightly apprehensive. "Do you... do you know what they do to extremely high security prisoners that have committed crimes, but haven't been sentensed to death? Different kingdoms have different ways of handling it, but it's all about the same..." He shivered slightly.

Sayael's last statement put Dax a little off center, obviously so. Though he didn't know what much it had to do with their conversation, he was sure the other boy was trying to make a point in some way. "No.. I don't know what happens to them," he answered, his tone laced with an uncertain curiosity. Did he really want to know? "Why? .. What does your Kingdom do?"

"It's more cruel than the death sentance... and it's how I learned to be afraid of being alone..." His eyes were downcast and sad. He ran a few fingers throug Isfahel's mane, seeking some comfort in the soft strands, before curling his fingers around them. "They're shut in small rooms only a little larger than the space it takes for them to stand. They're fed enough to keep them alive but are never allowed any human contact or... anything. They're let out for one hour every day just so that their bodies can remember how to walk." He shuddered slightly. "To me... that's worse than any torture."

Dax was struck silent for a long while. He was expecting something along the lines of physical torture. Not confinement. He didn't know which part would be worse- Being completely alone for so long or the limited amount of space to move freely. It would definitely be enough to make someone go crazy, he thought. "Sayael.." he said, looking to the boy, his brow knitted in concern. "Did.. Did they do that to you?"
