Skyeborne So while I'm working on ideas for a back-up, does anybody need/want any kind of support character with them? Could always use more PCs in Falcon Company, or some people in Republic Army/Navy and can pull a little weight against the Sith

That seems pretty good to me, but since I'm not playing a NFU, I can't be sure.
However, the idea in general that they could enhance things or buy new stuff would seem to be comparable to a Jedi and Sith getting new powers and all.
You could perhaps develop a sorta chart for prices similar to what the Jedi and Sith have. Stuff like it costs so many points to upgrade a ship's performance, or for a promotion/requisition for military.
It does seem a bit tricky though. They have a lot more to keep track of than FUs, so I would say they should get more of those points to compensate.
Plus, a Jedi and Sith keep what they have. They can't just suddenly lose a lightsaber form or power. Once they know it, they know it. However, a NFU could get a ship destroyed or their gear stolen or otherwise lost, and need replacements. It makes sense that they'd have a way to compensate for that while not falling behind on rewards just to get back to where they were.

Eh, that's debatable. If someone doesn't lose their gear a lot would rack up quite a lot of points and have the issue of having points with nothing to spend them on. So you can't just claim that "hey, grant them more since they have more"....
If anything, the Jedi/sith still have the most to actually keep track of, since the military folk are given their rank arbitrarily in sort of "fire-and-forget"mode.
If worse comes to worse, losing something would come in the way of refundable points too, there's lots of ways to make stuff more permanent.

I saw; first i have to pound out the numbers though before looking at it seriously if i do this whole "gear point" thing. That way, you're not dead in the water, needing to drop gear just to use it again.

kk. I didn't want to give her too much gear so I cut back and went with essentially starter pistols. I could drop the grenades or the carbine if you think they're too much.

As it stands, 1 gear point is kind of looking like the equivalent of 1,000 credits worth of "gear"... only bad point about this is that it may wind up to being gear points in the 100s...

Honestly, I don't know how to look at this purposed system. If you don't play Saga, TOR, or an older system, most 'credit' systems have no meaning to you, really. And even those are not that balanced... Its up to the mods to place a monetary value upon gear, and that means more work for you Nelo...
I think we're going a bit far with the number crunching with the Force User system as it is.

Except it doesn't actually reflect anything credit based. Until it's revealed or what not, then it's still a work in progress.
If you actually have a helpful suggestion, then go for it. if not, I'd appreciate it if you didn't limit your responses to "I don't like it, so you should quit." It's neither encouraging, helpful, or anything more than just negative pessimism from the seat of the person trying to make things more engaging.

I never said that I didn't like it. I think that it might be unnecessary though.

He's trying to put in a system so NFU independent agents have a means of tracking their progress, like military and FU do. So if 2 out of 3 available player options have such a set up, why leave it out for that remaining third?

I applaud the push towards equality, but I think it might prove too unwieldy. Playing a non-military, NFU means you don't have the mystical power of the Jedi/Sith to rely on, or the backing of a military organization to help you. Restricting these characters by adding a system by which they need to buy and sell gear just limits them further, and might keep people from playing a group of characters that sadly do not get enough attention in Star Wars roleplaying games.
That being said, if you are determined to set something up, I'd suggest looking at the Purchase DC rule-set from the D20 Modern rulebooks released in 2002. It is a simple, yet amazingly effective system that keeps the game balanced without distracting from the action by over-intensive number-crunching...

Except the premise that it restricts them is applicable to both the force users and the military as well.
A padawan, for example, really doesn't have much.
A private, also not much.
Yet, even with the restrictions, so many people have been drawn to play jedi and military. The only two major PCs who are NFUs are Sayla and Skuld, of which both advocate having a system. If anything the staunchest resistance is coming from people who will be affected in the least! If a person is concerned with the representation of the NFUs, why have they not made any yet?
Honestly, as it stands right now, the system is designed to reward a person for making a good character, for playing a good game. It's a reward, not a restriction. Same with the jedi. If a person isn't doing much to help the story along or do good, then they dont' get many force points or style points. Yet we don't have anything in regards of this for a NFU.
Admittedly yes, I'm not entirely sure how to make the system work fairly yet. But to suggest that I'm doing this to put a crimp on a type of player?
The "force points", the "rank points", these "gear points", are all kind of like xbox's Achievement point system, in a way. It's to help you feel a sense of accomplishment, not the feelings of limitations. Find new ways to overcome one's weaknesses, to feel as if you've done something meaningful. Not to sit here and be mocked because you can't be Boba fett from day one, or the Emperor Palpatine.

My secondary is going to be an NFU, so it affects me a bit. Did you get a chance to look at the rules I mentioned?

No, i haven't. But if it's a monetary-based system, then it really doesn't make application?
