“Monster hunter… wow... Really?! Wait more like, more like Monster Fighter or more like, Pokemon? Or…Digimon? He said rather seriously.

He took the offered hand and gave it a good firm shake and then let his gaze drift back to the more serious face Brother. “Alistaire… my god the temptation to call you Alfred is just nuts man.”

“No, not odd at all,” Wilson reassured, “You’ve just woken up after…” His voice trailed off again as he raised a hand to count off fingers. Then he shrugged, leaning against Eva. “After a lot of months, and most if not all hunters wake up with groggy memories. Things will start to come back eventually.”

Indirectly, the hunter answered Bradley’s question by pointing to himself and then Eva as he answered, “Wilson Hopkins. Eva Valente.”

“As for what hunters are, remember those monsters beneath the bed and hiding in the closet? They’re real. Hunters are humans who can see them and fight them, trying to save the world from the apocalypse on multiple occasions, etcetera etcetera. As for partners, well, why don’t you explain that?” Wilson craned his neck toward with a half-nod.

"It's okay," She assured Bradley, following up Wilson's reassurance by using her still-outstretched hand to pat the man on the head, "Just give it some time! Gods know that you must be confused as hell right now." She offered him a look of sympathy before setting her head against Wilson's shoulders, brows scrunching up in thought.

Explain partners, huh? "Well...basically, to fight these creatures and save the world, you need weapons, yeah? That's where your partner comes in, only we call them 'partners' because they aren't just any regular inanimate sword or staff--they're sentient, with their own names and personalities." Lifting her head off of her cousin's shoulder, the girl grinned.

"Basically, I hope you're ready to have another voice in your head."

Alistaire was just staring in either amazement or disgust, while Ian let out a laugh, shaking his head. He was beginning to like this guy, and not just because he was succeeding in making his brother uncomfortable (not that much didn't make Alistaire uncomfortable these days.

The expression on Alistaire's face shifted into one of annoyance.

"Please," he said flatly, "don't."

Ian waved a hand dismissively. "Call him whatever you like, we're like monster fighters here anyway, so it's all good. What did you say your name was again?"

“Oh! Jasper, My name’s Jasper.” He grinned like a Cheshire cat. “Like the stone…cause I –rock-“ He waggled his eyebrows, which was only marginally better than saying ‘Eh, eh?’ at the end to indicate they should find that funny.

“So… you’re saying you’re basically…heros.” He said sounding oddly…well, hopeful.

“Like… Kaiju battle.”

Ian was still laughing and Alistaire was still looking as though he might be ill. After seeming to pull himself together, he said delicately, "I'm going to lunch. Ian - don't forget, we have an agreement. You owe me already."

Some of the laughter eased from Ian's face, glowering at his brother, but then Alistaire had given a little wave and was gone, disappearing out of the pod room. Ian took a deep breath and then turned back to the new trainee, forcing a smile back onto his face.

"Sorry about that," he said, with a slightly strained laugh. He clapped a hand on the guy's shoulder. "He's a bit of a p***k sometimes. Jasper, is it? Well, it's pretty nice to meet you, Jasper, though, er..."

A pause.

"I'm not sure heroes is quite the right term," he added, slightly helpfully. "But, well, you can be anything, right?"

“Has anyone claimed batman? Cause I totally claim batman,” He stepped out of the pod and glanced around with wide eyes and a surprising amount of enthusiasm.

“Wow… wow…. Fighting monsters, so uh…what do YOU call it? You more into what…like sci-fi? Jedi?” He made light saber sounds and swung his hands back and forth like he had a light saber.

“Oh man, you don’t actually…you don’t have light sabers do you That’s WAY too much to ask isn’t it??”

Ami tapped her pen on the clipboard, waiting for a million idiotic questions to come pouring out of the girl who was clearly trying to sort this all out in her head.

Instead, she got one very simple, very interesting question. Her name- that was new. Most were so self-obsessed they didn't bother asking who was feeding them answers. It was ... intelligent really. This way she'd have a resource for later, and someone to blame if information was incorrectly delivered.

The older life hunter shook her head. This girl could not have possibly thought that far ahead, and she was probably just creating conjecture of her own because her mind thought that far ahead. Still, Ami had a twitch of a smile playing on her lips. "Amalie Raine. I tend to go by Ami, if you please." She then returned to her normal glare. "The doors."

All Kylee had been thinking of was that she knew (or at least, it seemed that she could not remember) no one in this place. It was almost like the very first day of college, when she had stepped into campus and saw many faces milling about, but just had no idea who anyone was. Even those faces in the other pods were unfamiliar to her and she hadn't wanted to go on without even knowing at least one name.

"It's nice to meet you, Ami." She said, managing a smile in return. "And thank you." It seemed as though this was where they parted, and where she would go on to... whatever lay beyond those doors.

He'd remember eventually. Bradley was sure if it, especially because he remember that head patting too. He gave a smile to the pair; Eva and Wilson were incredibly helpful to him, and he was thankful they were here and he didn't just... wander around blind.

He blinked at Eva. It was a weapon? That was sentient?! "Hooooold on. These weapons talk to us? How the hell did we manage to engineer that?" Sentient weapons, oh man. On one hand, the idea sounded incredibly wicked and awesome and he couldn't wait, and on the other, dear god why would you put someone else in Bradley's head. It was bad enough Bradley was in his own mind and that he liked to share it to the world a lot of the time. Putting someone else in that miasma of... well... stuff, was just asking for disaster.

So of course his next question was, "A'right, where do we do this weapon picking business?" Adventurous and reckless to a fault, this one was.

Ian grinned. "You can totally be Batman," he said, clapping a hand on Jasper's back in a friendly sort of way. "So long as I don't have to be Robin. I don't do sidekicks, but I do kind of like the whole Iron Man idea...Tony Stark had it goin' on..."

Laughing, Ian shook his head. "No lightsabers, but we do use weapons. I myself use a long dagger. My boyfriend uses a...er, I'm not sure what you call it, but it's a giant dog head with teeth on a chain. Some other people use guns, others use swords or whatever. Everyone has a different weapon."

A pause.

"I doubt a lightsaber is one, though."

Dorian's first official job after becoming an intermediate?

Pod duty.

Not that he was going to complain terribly much about it - it could be worse - he could be cleaning up some infernal Life room or something that was always offered up to Mist Division since they were the "Jack of all Trades, masters of none. Well, whatever.

Usually when he hung around the pods, good people came out (he did wake up Solomon and Riley, and they were good people right?)

What could possibly go wrong?

There was a hiss as the pod door sprang to life, sliding open and leaving the woman within exposed to the outside air, air that felt cold against her skin and made her visibly shudder before her eyes sprung open wide with a gasp. Her arms raised up then, crossing over her chest, hugging herself as she shivered. Why was it so cold? Only moments before, she had felt warm, she was sure of it. Hot, even. Now, all she could do was shake, and stare about, or at least, attempt to stare about, at the room that surrounded her.

Where was she? Her eyes squinted as she tried to make out the blurry shapes, and she took a step forward, only to find one booted and unlaced foot come colliding into a lip in the bottom of her pod, enough to send her sprawling to the floor with a small screech of surprise, her hands making impact first, the rest of her body shortly afterwards as the wind was knocked out of her completely.

"Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww." Her eyes were watering, and she curled up into the fetal position on the floor, her birds nest worthy hair falling in front of her face as she continued to hiss in pain.

“Oh hell no, sorry I don’t want to see you in little red undies, sorry, at least not till after dinner and a movie.” He laughed warmly. “How about Nightwing? That cool? He used to be robin and then he got a better costume! You kind of can’t be ironman without a drinking problem and a LOT of booze.

“Wow… yeah I got to admit I’m still working out the logic of why the blade would –stop- where it does but I figure it’s the force. If we don’t have light sabers I figure we don’t get the force.”

He looked thoughtful for a moment then more interested. “S…oooo… how do we get assigned these weapons?” He asked and lifted his eyebrows with a bright look in his eyes.

Harland was observing the hell out of those dormant pods. Not only was it boring, it was also repetitive and kind of creepy. Like watching someone sleep, when they didn't know you were even in their room. Now multiply that by every Hunter candidate currently slumbering in their pod, because that was what it felt like for Harland Leander Belle holding tight to a clipboard. The clipboard was his preservation device: so long as he held it, he knew that what he was doing was a training duty and not stalking.

He scanned the faces on the monitors carefully, to keep himself awake, and leaned in a couple times, studying the pod and its inhabitant more carefully.

Over one shoulder, he had draped a red blanket. It was embroidered on the side, and it had a little gold-thread horseshoe on one corner. He would never admit to having made this blanket, but he totally did. It was in case of new Hunters, because he didn't want them to be cold.

That was all he had thought of. It wasn't like he was supposed to bring the blanket, or anything, it just seemed like the right thing to do. Harland tried not to put his hands anywhere near the monitors, no matter how closely he looked, but in studying one particular face he nearly did: it looked like sleeping beauty, to Harland. Like a fairytale princess: surrounded by cascades of pink, lavender and white hair, white roses across her head. Her face looked so angelic, and he couldn't help but feel she didn't belong in their world.

After all, he was a broke alcoholic PI before he came to Deus. He had lost nothing, and gained it all. His memories were even brighter, thanks to Protection, not that he knew that was why. Just as he was feeling concerned for the beautiful Hunter, and some part of him hoped she could sleep forever, Coyote reminded him:
Those aren't peaceful dreams, Cowboy. You don't want her to have nightmares forever, do you? Or die? She could die in there, Coyote reminded him. He didn't sound cruel, not like he had hurt Harland on purpose. It sounded like a gentle reminder, anchoring Harland back into reality.

"Then I hope she wakes, the róisín," he mumbled, tonguing the inside of his labret in thought.

In fact, the pod began to register signs of wakefulness. Harland practically fell over himself, getting out to wait there beside the pod. And wait. And wait.

It was a lot longer process than he had anticipated.
