Tjaden entered the shadowy room as the peculiar door closed behind him, leaving him entombed in nothing but darkness. Just as the orc began to wonder what the room's purpose truly was, he felt suddenly compelled to shield his eyes as a blazing sun appeared in the distant horizon and the texture of the floor changed to the stinging heated texture of the sands of the Sun Scorch Desert.

Not only was he now standing on the heated surface of the sands, but also the edge of the desert, right in the center of his former clan's territory. The orc's eyes burned for a moment as they adjusted from the complete blackness to such a searing sight, but as they came back into focus, he had to rub them once more to ensure that he was not seeing a mirage.

The Serpent Tribe.

His adoptive home, back in one piece, together, every member of his home alive and well. A human caravan had just pulled into the tribe's village. Orcish children and others rushed to meet their allied traders and see what they had to barter for.

The nostalgia overwhelmed the noble Tjaden, though not nearly as much as whom he saw making his way to the caravan: Elder Je'kal.
His mentor and his adoptive father.

Selce waited for the dweomer to end, giving her the information she had hoped for. She passed the cloak to Erron knowing it would help him more than herself.

After she emptied her hands she smiled at Cervantes and bent down to pick up the eyeglass, wondering as the staff just dissapeared before her. The day's pevious events couldn't dull her mood right now. Her excitement rose as she secreted the eyeglass in her robe. "I have my reward, but I wish for a reward that seems greater than this one right now. Sleep." She joked.

((Longer usefulness items for the win!))

After momments of pondering Laren finnaly decided upon her reward. Taking the Cloak of Feathers she slung it over her shoulder and tested out the enchantment.

((Now its time to figure out how a ranger could hide in an urban area lol))

(( Meaning Monks, Wizards or Clerics can *not* use this item))

(((After everything is said and done we'll see who will make the most use out of it.)))

Erron receives the cloak from Selce and puts it into the party's bag, it was unfair to decide who would get such a useful accessory without the whole party present

Brurag's eyes shone as he quickly reached for one of the weapons. He stopped though, pondering which to choose. To be able to hack apart his foes so easily would be such a gift, but being able to hurl an axe into his foes skull would also be useful. Decisions, decisions, decisions.........it was driving him crazy!

Eventually Brurag decided it would be better to hack apart his foes like a true warrior rather than cowardly lob an axe at them from far away. He used two hands to grip the axe (Twin-Ax of Draconic Fury) tightly and lift it up. It was heavy, but not too heavy for him. He grinned happily at such a well crafted weapon. He imagined the spirits of his ancestors looking upon him with envy at his success and pride in their family that he was born into it.

"What is the name of this powerful axe? Whoever made it should take great pride in their work."

Kal grabbed the mask, thinking it would be more useful for anyone, a majority usable item. Especially Laren, double the arrows, and she wasn't hit often from her distance. Her grabbing the cloak merely solidified his choice. He wanted the cloak(Cloak of Dextrous Touch) badly. He'd give anything, do anything to get it. His mind was set on getting it. He chuckled at Selce's suggestion and nodded. They all needed sleep.

Tjaden choked back a bit of emotion. The heart of a warrior had to be moved by feelings, not controlled by them and though he allowed himself the comfort of the familiarity, he remained as stoic as possible. He started toward the Elder, his old mentor....the closest thing to a father he would ever have...and then stopped. He remembered the Grand Patriarch's story and realized that his tribe may not see him as the Orc he had been back then.

On the other hand, the test would require interaction. He could not very well stand still and let the events unfold around him. Inaction is as terrible a crime as that to which it stands witness. Tjaden remembered the old proverb, uttered from the same cracked lips as the Orc that he now saw.

Tjaden decided to continue his approach and gauge the reactions of those around him to his appearance. It wasn't like there would be a conveniently placed reflective surface nearby for him to look upon himself. His direction took him toward the caravan at roughly the same point Elder Je'kal would meet it.

As Tjaden approached the caravan, Elder Je'kal turned and regarded him warmly.

"Greetings, good warrior," the elder said in the common tongue," What brings you to our humble settlement? You seem garbed in human armor, are you with our caravan friends here?"

Though Tjaden had appeared in the village, there was no recognition in his adoptive father's eyes. The orcish knight stood before his mentor appearing just as he had in the present. A strong, noble soul, clad in shining armor, foreign to the dusty lands of the Sun Scorched Desert.

In the distance, a sand storm seemed to be forming...

"I..." Tjaden's voice croaked a bit when he first tried to speak. He cleared his throat and started again. "I have come from distant human lands in search of wisdom and guidance. I had learned that a wise leader lived here. His name Elder Je'kal..." Tjaden let the unspoken question hanging. He was being very careful not to lie, for any untrue statement could make the difference between passing and failing a test which pierced the very heart of intent. So far, all he said had been true. Not only was Haven a fair distance from the Serpent Tribe's territory, but there was also a distance of time. It was also true that he had come in search of wisdom and guidance. The wisdom and guidance that would be provided by the insight gained from his test.

Suddenly he felt a twinge of uncertainity and he looked to the horizon. There, where sky met ground, a sand storm was forming. It was nothing a seasoned Sun Scorch Desert native would be alarmed at as long as he had shelter nearby, but for some reason, Tjaden felt it had the aura of a bad omen.

The elder chuckled.

"I am he. Though you need not be so formal, noble visitor. We have catered to the needs of travelers such as yourself for many years. There is no need to speak so cryptically either, you remind me of my youngling, Tjaden. He is very inquisitive and ambitious. One day I hope that he might find a direction for all that energy, but I suppose that's a father's right to dream isn't it? Haha, listen to me ramble, I apologize, I have not even gotten your name ye-"

A human from the caravan walked to the pair after a moment and broke their conversation, the man was clearly one of the ranking members of the group.

"I apologize, Elder Je'kal, however there appears to be a sand storm on the horizon... and it is approaching much faster than ones we have previously encountered in our travels here. We had hoped you might give us some insight in what its source might be."

The Elder turned then to regard the storm.

"Heh, outlanders are usually taken off-guard by rogue storms, I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a--"

The older orc paused as he squinted his eyes, as he felt his age was beginning to deceive him. To his dismay they were not.

In the distance was the dust being scattered before the incoming warband of a nearby tribe, one that now threatened the Serpent Tribe's existence.

"The Scorpion Tribe... They've been at odds with us ever since we began trade with the humans. They must have gotten wind that you men were here once more... I wouldn't have thought that they'd have the gall to attack us openly like this... They are in great numbers. It is likely that they have come to wipe us out entirely."

The old orc yelled out in his native tongue to a nearby orc, well-decorated in warpaint and battle scars.

"Threl'mar, gather all of our warriors. Prepare for battle. Send word for the women and children to make their escape now."

The decorated warrior made off with a solemn nod and rushed away. The human captain placed a hand on Je'kal's weathered shoulder and said to him.

"The Serpent Tribe does not stand alone. You have treated us well for years, we will not abandon you now, even if it costs our lives."

The elder smiled in response to his old friend. He then turned to Tjaden once more.

"I wish that we were to have met under different circumstances, warrior. You are under no obligation to stay. We will do as we must however we must to survive."

"I never quite outgrew my formality, good sir, so you will excuse me if I find it difficult to address you in any other manner." Tjaden said politely. But inside he was turmoil of emotion, a storm of confusion which was just now breaking.

Youngling? Father? Tjaden thought to himself surprised. Pride and honour welled up in Tjaden's heart at the man's familial claim over him. He knew this was simply a shadow of the past, but to hear those words from his mentor...to know that the man he thought of as father had thought of him as a son...it meant more to him then any other power he could have.

It was in that moment that he truly understood how pointless his doubt had been. He had been so hung up on bloodline and relations, on family trees and family names, that he had blinded himself to how much of a family he had. He was no orphan...his father had raised him into an upstanding, righteous Orc, worthy of the family name and their ancestors. His ancestors.

He realized that the bonds of family were forged not by the liquid in a person's veins, but the life and love in their heart. No matter what transpired in this test, no matter what horror inflicted or pain endured, Tjaden had learned a lesson more valuable in those few words than he ever thought he would.

Yet, there was still a test to be taken, and as the moment passed in which Tjaden felt his being becoming perfectly aligned, his whole existence was wrenched into chaos as his father spoke. Tjaden turned and saw the Scorpion tribe approaching.

He would be forced to watch his tribe die again!

Tjaden was still injured from the battles in the catacombs, his inner reserves spent, and his body drained. Every joint in his body protested as he drew his sword and unslung his shield, speaking his response to Elder Je'kal as he did so.

"My father was a wise man. He told me once that inaction is as terrible a crime as that to which it stands witness. I have seen your plight and I will be no part of the crime that will befall you. Today, my sword is yours to command, Elder Je'kal." Tjaden said with a curt bow.

Despite his formality, raw anger and fury at the Scorpion tribe seethed below the surface. He need only wait for the moment to unleash his righteous weapon open the transgressors. But would his one sword be enough to save his loved ones? Could his actions really sway the tide of battle in favour of the Serpent tribe and prevent him reliving the single most haunting memory of his life?

I can only try...

Selce looked about at the present faces and grinned. "We have all choosen our rewards, shall we all find some rest now?" She asked not remembering when the Grand Patriarch had said they need be gone from Haven. She tried to stifle a yawn that erupted out of her and made her eye's water. "Or I mean I could sleep while were walking."
