When the trunk was down, Toby rushed to Holly and scooped her up, sprite in the hair and all.
"Hi, Holly! How are you?!"
Dari smiled at the pair and then moved to stand beside Maia. "It's up to you if you'd like to give a tour or let them wander-- we'll want to at least show them the safe perimeter. Have you marked them yet?" With some sort of growth, of course, not with spray paint.

Holly wrapped her arms around Toby's neck, beaming. "Good!" She studied him. "Poppy was gone a long time," she complained. "Poppy stay now?"
"I can show them around. It looks like Toby's busy with Holly," he looked over to the werewolf. "There's daisies all around the forest. If you go over the line, it's not safe. But the forest is big enough, you guys'll be happy here."

The pixie that seemed at the head of them all (at least she was the largest and wore a tiny woven stem-crown, and tended to officiate business, but Dari asserted that that didn't necessarily mean anything) hovered before Reese and nodded.
"Yes, please. Show us the way." She flew over to take his hand in her tiny little fingers. "We are very grateful for your generosity."
"Their forest was being compromised," Dari added, "It wasn't very pretty."
Toby meanwhile was entirely distracted by Holly.
"Poppy can stay five days," Toby said, holding up a hand of outstretched fingers, "but you know that Poppy lives far away. Do you want to see what we brought you?!" Quick distraction!

Reese smiled at the tiny Sprite. Was she the queen? "It'll be nice having company," he admitted. "It's always been just me, so there won't be anyone to bother you here. I don't let humans come in."
Just five?! But five was a lot, wasn't it? It seemed like a lot. "Want Poppy to stay all the days." She complained. ...they'd brought her something?! She parked up, looking around.

Toby carried Holly to the trunk and crouched down to set her on her feet. He opened the trunk easily (who would steal baby clothes in the protected forest?) save for its air seal and gestured to the clothes, books, and toys within.
"We got you some coats for when it gets cold, too, so you won't have to go sleep!"

Holly studied the contents of the trunk carefully. She hesitated, looking carefully at Toby. She looked back at the trunk. "Poppy stay ALL the days now?" She asked, hopefully. Maybe since he'd brought all this stuff, he was planning on staying. Yay!
The nymph's eyes settled on a book. "Poppy read me!"

"Five days," Toby said again, holding up five fingers. Then he plopped down on the ground. "Sure. Pick one."
It would be nice to read to the kid in person for once. If those adoption classes every came to fruition...

"Five days," Holly echoed. Once he'd settled onto the ground, she selected a book and nestled in his lap. "This one!" She said. "Then more!"

"Okay, we can read while they walk around the forest," Toby said. He adjusted slightly to get comfortable for what he was sure was going to be a long time sitting and took the book to begin. He had entirely forgotten about his job at the moment.

"Kay," Holly agreed. "Missed Poppy!" She turned slightly so she could see both him and the book. "Poppy miss me! Poppy here!" She smiled at him. "Good story?"
Reese was happily providing a tour for the sprites. They were certainly friendly! And sort of cute, the way their voices were.

"I missed you too!" Toby said, and then nodded. "Yes, you picked a good story." He dramatically kissed her on the head began to read. This was a new book, and one he had only scanned for appropriateness, so it would be new to the both of them.

Holly listened to the story attentively. "What this?" She asked, pointing to the picture. "Oooh. What this?" She asked, pointing to another part. She looked up at him. "Poppy in book?"

He paused.
"Yes. Yes, Poppy is in the book. That's Poppy's cousin Rover."

"Rover?" The nymph echoed. She grinned. Poppy was famous! He was in her book! "Love Poppy more," she declared, leaning against him. "Read more, Poppy!"

"What, because my cousin's in a book?! Tsk!" He laughed and continued reading, even doing the silly voices of different characters. It was a while before Dari couldn't hear them any more, and he was smiling the entire time.
