Raven_Darkholme Obviously Top Cow needs to exercise alot more control over how thir properties are used when they liscence them out. Brian Pulido was far more intelligent in how he dealt with the Lady Death cartoon. Remember that the people who made the Witchblade anime are the ones that wanted to put elf ears on Lady Death. That's just the thing though. They're thrilled with how it's being handled. They WANT it done this way. They're giving them free reign without rules and their libidos are eating it up. It doesn't have to be good, all it has to do is sell. And no one ever went broke by appealing to the sexual appitites of the Japanese. There's a reason I don't see many girls giving two bits about what happens at Top Cow anymore. Most of the ones I do see are in it for the ever shrinking man-candy or they're cheer leaders for the company.

Emma _ Frost Oh Raven, silly silly water retaining Raven. If you spent as much time on your banter as your hair, you might be less than insufferable.

Take it off and pass it around the room so everyone can enjoy.

I remember when I first got into The Witchblade back in '98 at Michael Turner's last issue there were more letters on the letters page from female readers talking about how much they loved Ian and Kenneth. Hell the Fathom swimsuit issue had a two page spread for Cannon and Killian respectively. Now they're just pissing it away. scream

I don't think they even bother to put that book out anymore. They bring it back when they get good writers and artists and it sells like mad because the concept is sound, stunningly good even, and yet then they think that they can coast on it like the Batman and Superman fans do. But they don't. The following isn't THAT strong, and they've already been let down. I'll admitt, the Darkness/Pitt thing looks very good. But then I know that as soon as that's done, the book will slip below my interest again. And there's a book that did its best to appeal to both sexes and it worked. Hell, even Witchblade did that. And ironically, Sara kept her clothing on more often when Turner was drawing her than any of the following artists. Although I admitt, the solicits for the next guy look really good. But, TC does what most companies do. It's tricky to keep both genders interested (or so they think), so they'll pander to the male market's lowest form. Because it is a sure sell.

I didn't get into The Darkness aside from the crossovers until the volume two launch, which started out incredibly strong and then went down from there like you said. It was so frustrating because the book was so strong and all they had to do was keep going. A big part of it was likely that they couldn't stand to let it stay on a bimonthly schedual even though it was the smart thing to do creatively.
If they had the sense and/or the money, the best move would be to do what Wildstorm just did; pull in some of the top writers in the field to totally reboot the line. They don't even need Morrison, Carey, or Azzarello. Put Howard Chaykin on The Darkness and Chuck Dixon on The Witchblade.

Even the Batman crossover was reasonably well done.
I don't think they need to relaunch. I think they need to par down. A LOT. I think they try to create too many projects that all work in a single line of thinking (Hunter Killer, Cyber Force, etc). Hell, I would love to take over the Darkness. I have some Ideas for that line. It can easily be salvaged, because the stories aren't the kind of bad that have ruined the character, they just leave a bad taste in the mouth. The character himseld hasn't been explored, everything that's happened recently has just been about...I don't know. I don't think there WAS a point to it all. It's stuff. That happened. Put ME on the book damnit. I think that the only book that could stand a relaunch is Witchblade, and even then I hesitate because...well, it can still go places. It's not become burdened by it's own weight, just it's writers.

It's all traded now, so I'll give that a go too. The biggest reason I favor a reboot is that ridiculous cosmology or whatever the hell they're trying to pass it off as. You know what I mean, the Chosen Ones, the Trinity, all that bullshit they started in the second crossover; the one with the sex vampires. Plotwise, no The Darkness doesn't need a reboot because the only really significant thing that happened from the synopses and issues I've actually read was Jackie dying and his resurrection was very well handled so no problem there.
But the Witchblade? It's totally suffocating on all these plotlines that Christina Z started as far back as the first issue and were still hanging by the time #75 rolled around. None of the subsequent writers did anything but string along the plotlines and add tons of baggage. I don't think anyone really knows who killed Frank Pezzini, how Nottingham and Irons survived falling off a goddamn building, or even where Irons got his magic powers from say nothing about the Church of Prosperity (lol, Scientology).
I'd love to do a run on The Witchblade though, there's so many places you could take it. Sara's a great character too when the writers realize it. She's the heterosexual Renee Montoya with an insanely powerful mystical weapon.
