"I helped her figure them out, but asking him would have been too blatant. I prefer for him to think she's simply naturally the perfect woman for him."
He nodded then.
"Alright. Our spot is certainly higher up than any church, but we're not really sure where the white light leads anyway. We avoid calling it 'Heaven' but most people do anyway. It's big and white and glowing and happy, so..."
He shrugged. "Where will we have the reception?"

"I'm sure she is," Cody said. They certainly seemed happy!
He paused, turning to stare at Dari. White light? What? "...it's real?" He demanded, in a hushed whisper. He seemed to recover, after a moment, though. "I don't know, where would you like to have it?" He asked.

Dari shrugged. He didn't care where they had it.
"Sure. Michael's told me a lot about it. When you die, a staircase with a bright white light at the top appears just beside you, and most people go up, but some turn away for their own reasons, usually deep emotion, and have to do something before it'll open up again. He says your family's waiting for you at the top of the stairs. He was angry. So angry he turned away. Now, unfortunately, it won't take him back, but he can help others get into theirs. I don't really know what he does with the crazy ones. He just said 'I made her' and that was it."

So...confirmation on heaven. Huh. Cody's eyes were wide. "So it's like in all those cartoons?" He asked. Staircases leading to bright lights...angels playing harps. He shook his head.
"I have my paradise right here," he looped an arm around Dari's waist.

"Without the angels, maybe." Dari grinned. He liked to give people hope. Unfortunately, he wasn't sure what happened to his people when they died. As he was made of a few, he doubted it was heaven.
"Well now you're stuck with me forever!"

Cody smiled, kissing Dari's cheek. "There's no one I'd rather be with," he said. No place he'd rather be. "Heaven wouldn't have been heaven for me, if I'd been without you."

Cody was probably not the time to find suicide romantic, so Dari just left it there. He smiled and kissed Cody, then turned back to watch the meteor shower. It had picked up a bit now.

Cody looked up. He smiled as he spotted a meteor and watched it flash past. He gave Dari a squeeze.

It was finally the day of Toby's birthday; Maia had been careful not to mention the surprise. Come morning though, she was packing a suitcase. "Toby, get dressed," she urged. "Happy birthday!" She paused in her packing to kiss his cheek.

Half-asleep Toby was more than a little confused as to why his girlfriend was excitedly packing her bags. Had he forgotten a mission? Some sort of long-distance trip? Where was Dari?
"Hmm, whaa-?" Aw, s**t. He clapped a hand over his eyes. "Damnit."

"I booked us a room," Maia explained, and sat on the bed next to Toby. She smiled at him. "It'll be fun." She was looking forward to this. "Surprise!" She pushed her suitcase closed. "Want me to pack you a bag?" She asked.

Toby gave a noise that was either an affirmative or an annoyed groan. His birthday. The last thing he wanted to do was get any older.
"Nonono, I got it." For all he hated waking up, Toby was pretty good at it when he had to be. Being an agent kept you on your toes. He sat up with a long sniff, blinked, and then went for his bags.
"Do I need anything fancy?"

Maia considered Toby's question for a long moment. "Do you want to go out dancing?" She asked. Maybe out to dinner... She hasn't put in a reservation, though! Ack! "Pack your swim suit," she added, thoughtfully. The hotel had a pool and hot tub. It'd be nice. A chance to get away, but not too far from home. No scary ghosts, no entities needing saving, just them.
"What do you want to do first?" She asked. "After breakfast?"

Swimsuit? Breakfast! It was all coming so fast!
"Why don't we take it as we go?" He packed his swim trunks without really considering why he might have to.

Oh, no plan? Maia nodded, latching her suitcase closed and standing. "I wanted to surprise you," she admitted. She bent and came back up with a box. "It's nothing like last year's," she said. Had it really only been a year? It felt like so much longer. It felt like forever. "But I thought you'd like this."
