Hartley obeyed without any snark, though running through his head was a dozen things he was sure Billy would be dying to say right now.

Wallace tugged on the sides of his mannies, breaking the little threads that held it in place. He ripped the hat off and tossed it onto the floor, then shimmied carefully into the new shorts, trying not to disturb the rat. She had been kind enough to bring them to him. "You can open them again." Wallace was pink, embarrassed at having just been naked in front of Hartley even if he hadn't seen anything.

Hartley opened first one eye, then the other. He and Wallace were about the same size and body shape, so the shorts fit just fine. Hartley patted the bed again.

"Better? Wanna watch some TV?"
PostPosted: Mon Apr 04, 2011 7:50 pm

"...kind of..." Wallace paused, then sat down on the bed again. "But I think we should figure out ...how to not get you so pissed in the future. I don't want something bad to happen because you're angry."

Hartley let out a long, long sigh.

"Dr. Quinzel said, last time I talked to her...that maybe I should look at getting evaluated for some medication."

"What do you think about that?" Wallace curled up beside Hartley, making himself comfortable in the space beside him. He wanted to curl right up and make himself cozy in the curve of his belly, but he didn't really know if he was the vulnerable one right now.

"I don't want to take any drugs."

Short and to the point. Just thinking about it made Hartley both angry and filled him with some sort of dread he couldn't really describe.

"I'll work on it, okay? My mood...It's been a dramatic few days, and I made some bad choices. The Vigilante Club thing was a bad turn...I admit it. I'll get everything back into harmony."

Wallace grasped Hartley's chin, turning his face so that they were on eye level. He made sure Hartley looked him in the eye before he spoke. "And you will let me help you. And we will communicate. And we will get through this."

"A duet. I promise."

Hartley meant it. Right now, he very much so believed it.

Fruit.

Pie.

Factory.

If such a wonderful place existed, and those golden-delicious concoctions of fruit filling and flaky crust didn't just fall from the sky full-formed like mana from heaven, Wally wanted to go there.

SO.

BAD.

"Cassie."

Wally poked her.

"Cassie. Cassie. Casie. Cassie. Cassie! Cassie! CASSIE! CASSIE! CASSIE!"

He poked her and poked her and poked her.

"WE MUST WIN THOSE TICKETS, WE MUST WE MUST WE MUST."

Meanwhile, back at Hero High......

In Len Snart's apartment, Leonard, James, Digger and Evan were watching TV. A commercial came on for the Hostess Pie Golden Ticket promotion.

Each Rogue Boy's eyes glazed over at the prospect of those golden spongey cakes, cream-filled and sold in pairs....the marvelous little cupcakes with the swirl of white frosting on top....and ESPECIALLY those fruit-filled delights with the light sugar coating that topped them off.

They were hypnotized. Made helpless by the merest prospect of Hostess Fruit Pies. When the commercial ended, Len turned to his crew and it was understood. Full-on decided, without having to say a word.

"Crime spree."

No Rogue boy would rest until they had a golden ticket in hand. All of them put their hands into the center of their huddle and swore silently this vow. James was the one to break the silence.

"Someone should tell Piper."

Len nodded.

"I'll have Lisa get him. We can't afford to delay waiting."

Their huddle broke, and the Rogues went their separate ways to prepare for The Great Hostess Theft Spree.

" Ow...ow..ow..ow"

Wally was poking her..usually Cassie could barely feel most people poking her but he was doing it at hypersonic speeds....

" Okay okay Wally we'll pick up a couple of boxes of fruit pies before we go home."

The Hostess people were swamped with orders... Cassie ran into a few stores and they were swamped to.

"This is maddness."

Wallace had been more exhausted than he had realized, and after pulling a blanket up to cover them both, he had drifted off to sleep with his head on Hartley's chest. The sound of his heart beat had been comforting, the thrum and throb of it making him feel secure and ...dare he say loved? (Maybe.)

Instantly, all of Dani's snack cakes were unwrapped, cellophane gliding gently, nay, poetically through the air towards its eventual resting place on the ground.

Wally frowned.

"No golden tickets..."

Hartley was jostled out of half-sleep by the sound of an authoritative knock on his door. For a brief second he was disoriented.

"M' not doin' anything wrong, dad..."

The knock got louder.

"OH. MY. GOD. Hartley, open up!"

Oh. That sucked him back to reality. What was Lisa doing banging his door down at...he checked the clock...2:32 AM?

Hartley groaned and untangled himself ungracefully from Wallace. He opened the door and blinked at the unforgiving lights of the hallway.

"Lisa, what the hell."

"Hart! Len and the guys went out-"

"Goody for them. I'm going back to bed."

"WAIT! I'm not finished! The Hostess Factory is holding a contest! Whoever finds a golden ticket gets a tour of the factory!!!!"

Sarcastic words formed by a half-asleep mind died in Hartley's mouth.

Hostess...There was a saying around the school about that confectionary..."Where Hostess baked goods rise...evil falls." What sort of otherworldly power did those tasty treats have, that no villain, from the lowliest bank robber to the dark Gods themselves, could resist their delicious temptation?

Hartley felt a dark sensation rise up in his heart. To be in the Hostess Factory, that place where mere human ingredients somehow combined to form perfection that no doubt God himself cursed the existence of...He wanted it. He wanted that more than anything else in the world.

No villain had ever managed to scale the walls of that fortress-like complex, where angels wept and their tears were processed into Chocodiles. It was armed greater than Fort Knox, and even if someone managed to penetrate their defense, a single pack of St. Patrick's Day-Themed Snowballs would destroy even the most hardened of criminals.

There was only one option. One way to get those sacred Golden Tickets.

"Crime spree..."

"EXACTLY. Come on, Hartley! We have to start knocking down 7-11's before there are no Suzie Q's left!"

Hartley looked over at Wallace. This, he was sure, Wallace would not understand. The darkness that dwelled with in his soul, that black fire that was stoked by the lemon pie goodness. It was bad enough when he had asked Wallace to rob a bank and he'd seen the look of revulsion and horror on Wallace's face at the idea. To try to explain to him the hypnotic pull that Ho-Ho's had on the Cowardly and Superstitious Lot...it seemed beyond Hartley.

Hartley grabbed his long green ski cap and his green coat and nudged Wallace gently.

"Wallace, Lisa needs me for something. I'll be back later."

Act in Hostess, repent in leisure.
