Montsho nodded and righted herself gracefully in the branches of the tree before leaping down. She landed behind the strange lion quietly, the large leopard circling round him to analyze the newcomer.

Layla followed only seconds later and proceeded to run up between the two as if she was proud of both bringing someone new to their house and of her big guardian panther. She looked up at Montsho as if waiting for a verdict.

"Yes, it would seem he is quite harmless, now then tell me about what you saw," she turned to stare at Kota for the last bit, askign in her low growl.

As quiet as Montsho might be, she didn't stop Kota from hearing her. His muscles tensed as she landed on the ground. And he stood still for a second, before spinning his head around to come face to face with a large leopard. So that's what she was... a leopard... but a leopard in charge of a lion? Who's ever heard of that? He was slightly startled, but he kept his ground.

Not too long after, the cub followed down the tree. He turned to look at her, as if asking her what they were doing here with a leopard, of all things. But she only looked at Montsho.

He turned back as Montsho began to speak. Harmless? What was that suppose to mean? His eyes blazed as she took a stab at his dignity. He had survived by himself since as long as he could remember. He was anything but harmless. He stared back at her as she said her last bit, and he was silent for a moment. Certainly she didn't mean for him to answer her. Afterall, the cub seemed to know that lioness better than he did. So he turned back to look at the cub, as if telling her to speak instead. Afterall, he was not her prisoner to interrogate.

((Wow, he's getting kinda angsty. xd sweatdrop ))

Layla watched Kota with some confusion...why was it so many were intimidated by Montsho? She was caring and protective, but he was not familiar with the leopard, she is strange to him, that would explain it. She caught the look and returned one questioningly.

"Erm, well," she started as she looked back toward Montsho, "we s-saw a-a biiiiiig lioness...w-with wings..." As she finished her explanation she stared awkwardly between the two and then looking at her forepaws.

"I see...black and gruff would you say," she gave a rather critical look at the young lion, he seemed less frightened than the other, at least he stood his ground.

"Ooooh, yeah...she had...shinies...on her neck," her voice was quiet and timid as she thought about it and looked to Kota for help with the description, being horrible with words herself.

Kota gave an inward sigh as he watched the young cub stumble all over her own words. So that was what she meant, when she said that he could teacher her. If she really was as important as the lioness had said she was, then perhaps it would be necessary for her to lose some of her timidness.

He turned back to Montsho when she spoke. He was slightly surprised that she knew something about the lioness. Then again, perhaps not. If this leopard was in charge of the cub... well...

He almost felt sorry for the cub. What was it like to have to live with a leopard? Especially one like this one. He shook his head lightly before looking at the leopard again. "A goddess," he muttered with certainty, though inside, he wasn't sure at all. Sure, not many lions had wings. And gods were the only ones that he knew of. But still. One could never be quite that certain.

((Kota had some trouble with some rather odd leopards back when he was young. o_0;; He thinks they're weird. sweatdrop ))

Montsho nodded and took a deep, thoughtful breath. Layla stared wide-eyed at Kota, she had learned very little of gods and goddesses but she knew they were big and powerful. She walked up between Montsho's legs, much like she'd done with the goddess, and looked up at her with a great bit of curiousity.

"She was a-a lot like y-you...only...a lion," she corrected herself, and watched as Montsho stepped over her and began to walk toward the river.

"Yes...I'd only assume," her voice was deep and seemed to be a bit confused herself.

Kota watched the leopard silently, a small frown on his face. If he had expected any reaction from her at all, this certainly was not one of them. He had thought that she knew about the goddess. Or at least, something about her. Afterall... she hadn't been surprised when they first mentioned the lioness.

Layla sighed and looked at Kota, allowing Montsho to leave without argue.

"She's...th-thinking," her voice was a bit uncertain on how to phrase it and seemed almost embarrassed at the leopard's behavior, but this was simply how she was, there was nothing she could truely do. "She always a b-bit touchy...I s-sorry..."

Kota's eyes followed Montsho as she walked away, only returning his gaze when the young cub spoke. He nodded to acknowledge her words before looking away again. The frown was still visible on his face, but his voice was soft when he spoke. "It's not your fault." He, too, was thinking...

Maji looked to the male then glanced back in the direction of the caves. The female he had been with was making her way to the mouth of the waterfall. He'd need to help her learn her way around or surely she'd become lost in the mistweaver's clever maze of caves. The zebra had probibly trampled off by then, he didn't care to look back as he padded cautiously away from the male, his ears swivled back so he could listen carefully to the sounds behind him if the large male decided to make a charge on him. He wished he hadn't come to the poor creature's defense now.... it would probibly die with or without him there- and he very well could have lost his own life as well. He adored the zebra though, and the deer. They were his friends... the only creatures that kept him company in the long solitude he had endoured for what seemed like an eturnity. Slowly he began up the rocks again- slowly but smoothely. His paws navigated the all too firmiliar climb easily. Not once did he faulter or slip even, his eyes kept forward and focused on the task at hand, pushing the troublesome recent event to the back of his mind for a more approreate time. Nearing the female he smiled, his ears lowered a bit in an apologetic fasion, "I'm sorry.... I just can't stand the thought of one of those gentle creatures being harmed." He sighed and waited for her to move on. They were nearly to the top now, "I've never seen other lions here before- certainly not an adult. I do hope he doesn't mean to cause trouble here."

((I decided to move along... it's been a while sweatdrop ))

'Kela licked her own shoulder self-consciously, feeling a little embarrassed that she had been caught going into territory that wasn't hers, whether the young male thought of it like that or not. She nodded solemnly and then tilted her head.
"I don't feel there could be much trouble around here... it's too peaceful. Uh... is that the cave there?" She flicked a snowy tailtip in the direction, yearning to explore its depths even though she had never really been one for dark holes.
"Will you show me?" She continued, arranging her face into an appealing expression.

[ Hopefully soon 'Kela can earn her Mistweaver cert 3nodding ]

Maji turned in the direction indicated by the female, a bit of an apoligetic expression came to his face as he nodded in aggreeance, slowly making his way up the rest of the incline to the cave. The mouth was damp but thanks to a thick growth of moss it wasn't hard to grip onto and pull himself into the cave. He padded a safe enough distance from the cave's opening to allow the female in easily. While she was still on her way he allowed himself to shake his silvery blue fur free of the water that had built upon his coat from the waterfall's spray. It was nice to be home after such a busy day. He hoped that the queen and her squire were doing all right- they had been instructed on how to get to this cave and they were more than capable to get into it themselves.

The cave was pretty wide and seemed to go on for miles. One would expect a humid dampness to the cave but it was quite the contrary. Small holes in the celings and walls allowed some air to come in and out but not so much as it allowed too much heat or cold into the caves. The light from the holes glanced down into cleverly placed gems that seemed to line the cave's floors and walls- providing a mysterious light to the seemingly endless miles of cave. The writings on the walls were illuminated by these same gems- some took on a light of their own. IT was quite mysterious to anyone who was not used to it. Maji had grown up around such things and this was all too firmilar to him.

He turned towards the opening of the cave and waited patiantly, he'd not continue on without the female behind him.

A little way behind the female cub padded onwards as if in a dream. Her snowy coat picked up the almost ethereal light, the patches of pearly grey showing darker in the cave's surrounds. Her mouth was slightly open as she gazed around the walls, golden eyes dancing over the markings until suddenly transfixed by a certain symbol.

Kinyamkela was confused as she had entered the cave. Mossy damp holes were not usually her thing, but this place felt different. The big cub had shaken the dampness from her fur, unconsciously imitating her guide, and then followed in some kind of trance. Blurry and sharp runes covered the insides of the cave, scrawled over every wall, hauntingly familiar and then not so. But a large one caught her eye, and she stopped, just staring. And then walked right up to the wall, staring distantly.

"Does this one mean storm," she said softly, not really asking the question, more stating it. She glanced over to Maji as he stood patiently waiting, wondering if he knew the meaning of the symbols.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 11, 2005 10:04 am

Maji paused in his walking and turned to the symbol that the female was looking at, his head turning to one side as he walked closer. It was one of those that he had just learned, "Indeed it does." He smiled, turning to her with a smile, "I think you know more than you're letting onto. It's wonderful- I can teach you to read all of this." He lifted a paw and ran it over the markings, his vibrent eyes studying the markings around the character for "storm". "This is about when one of the largest rains hit these lands..." He said, almost to himself as he read along, "The river was swollen.... it was seen as a blessing to the Mistweavers. Many cubs were born this season..."

He wondered if he was one of those cubs but the writing was much more faded than most of the other walls so it had to have been before his time. He was still searching for events that would clue into where he came into all this and who his parents were- things of that sort. All he knew about himself was the name of his pride and how to read their language. It was a tad bit frustrating to know so little about one's roots but he never seemed bothered by it outwardly. Anything he felt he kept to himself and quite well behind a smiling face.

Turning from the wall he began deeper into the cave, "Shall we continue? I'll show you were I sleep. You can sleep there if you'd like- the ground's soft and it's got quite the story on the wall."

The cub nodded slowly, her eyes faraway. "The story of the storm... there was one like that the old Steward used to tell us of. And another story?" She turned suddenly, her white tipped tail swishing behind her, her expression suddenly intense.
"Please tell me this story. I feel like I've seen it all before... I belong here. Maji... may I join your pride? There are other lions around, I can catch their scent on the damp air. The storm symbol... that's part of my name. The storm who causes a whirlwind. How...I want to learn more of how I know these things. Maji? Will you help me?"

From what had been seen so far, this kind of outburst was out of character for the cheerful bold young cub. The serene and shadowed surroundings of the cave made such a difference from the hot damp jungle outside.
