There it was, "experiment," a word that Faust knew in almost every language. He knew it was none of his business, and he desperately wanted to stay away from the malice that emmanated from the deeper, probably male voice. But something ancient, powerful, and very uncontrollable urged him forward, saying, we can take them! You and I Faust, your soul and my power!

"I'm not sure, but it's worth a try." Amaya tried to lead Shizuka, who was still under the influence of her 'blackout'. To her surprise, the girl took a step forward to catch her fall when pushed far enough.
"It may take a while, but she'll go wherever we take her."

"Good!" Manta said encouragingly, holding Shizuka's hand as she repeatedly fell forward and caught herself, which looked like slo-mo walking from a distance. "Now... where to go.... oh! Faust! I keep leaving him behind." Manta groaned. "I think he's OK, we should probably find him. Maybe he'll even have a good idea for snapping Shizuka out of this!"
(meanwhile)
"No... I can't... I won't..." Faust said, putting his hands over his ears. You will, and you must! the voice insisted. You underestimate our alliance. Has it occured to you that, not only can I help, I am all of your strength and power, the only reason that you're still on your feet?
"It has," replied Faust, staggering against his will towards the voices. "I've done whatever I could to keep you away from the people I care about... I don't eat... I don't sleep... I compromise my own health to limit your time on earth."
Consider this a sign, then.

"Yes, I hope he can help Shizuka." Amaya replied, leading Shizuka as well.
But I hope he doesn't lose control again. That other shaman girl disappeared, and There's no one else who can protect these two... she thought.

*netsubo silently backed towards the trees, hoping that if she could distract him, she could use the trees as cover and buy herself some time...distantly, she thought she heard faust's voice, but she couldnt be distracted for this...she pushed all thought out of her head and became pure instinct*

Shizuka was lost in her train of thought, her mind reliving the past. Not the depressing parts, but the memories of her mother.
"Kaachan, how come we don't have many friends?" A much younger Shizuka, no older than 7, asked her mother.
"Well, people today don't really understand that differences are natural. Sadly, that's the way thngs work out nowadays." the woman told her child, patting her on the head.
"Well, I can change that right? the little girl's comment took her mother by surprise. "All I have to do is win the shaman fight! And even if I don't win, I'd still make friends with other people like me!"
Little Shizuka's optimism put a smile on Ashieyu's face. (Ashieyu is the name of Shizuka's mom)
"Of course. And don't you ever make the same mistake that most society has made today. don't desert the people you care about. Okay?"
"Okay, kaachan!! I'll never leave my friends!!... Once I make some that is..."
The two laughed, and the girl hugged her mother.
"... And even in the shaman fight, I'll never leave you, kaachan!!"
'I'll never leave... my friends...' the older Shizuka mouthed, still in the blackout's trance.

*the very second she threw the smoke bomb, she darted into the trees....she ran so fast it seemed as if she were invisible.she stopped when she thought she could hide for a moment...what did hao reqiure her blood for?...she kept these thoughts aside and focused on making a plan..hao couldnt be that far behind her*

"Kaachan, I'm going off to Amaya-sensei now!" the young Shizuka, this time only about 5, slipped on her shoes at the door.
"Be careful not to talk to strangers or take a different path on the way!" her mother called, even though she had no doubts that her daughter would be safe.
"I know, I know...
The girl headed off to the shrine for her practice, admiring the scenery along the way. The last of the sakura petals were falling. A soft breeze caressed her body. A tiny fox kit had it's tail stuck under a rock about it's size. The...
Wait, a fox kit is hurt?
Little Shizuka walked over to the injured animal, yet keeping a safe distance away.
"Are you hurt, kit-chan?" she asked innocently. She looked at the animal's sad eyes, avoiding contact.
"And you're stuck, too. Here, I'll help!"
The young shaman went to one side of the rock and pushed the stone off the fox's tail. As soon as it was free, the creature ran around the area a bit, thankful to be free, as the child giggled.
"You're so funny, kit-chan!" Shizuka laughed.
The fox kit soon ran off, probabaly in the direction of it's pack, and it turned and faced the girl before disappearing from view. Shizuka could have sweared that it had smiled before finally running back to it's pack.
"You're welcome, kit-chan."
After finally arriving at the shrine, Amaya expressed her worry to the shaman.
"Shizuka, where have you been?! You're fifteen minutes late!" the spirit shouted.
"I'm sorry, Amaya-sensei. I stopped for a little on the way..." Shizuka bowed respectfully. "Kit-chan needed me. And I'd never leave anyone or anything when I'm needed."
Amaya looked down at the girl. Something definitely happened, because shizuka had never said anything like that before. Whatever it was, the spirit chose not to intrude, and began to work with her.

*there was no way she could win a direct confrontation, but she couldnt just keep running from him either...she had to do something...but what?!..meanwhile, hao was walking along...he could sense where netsubo was, so he wasnt worried about losing her....he'd catch her soon enough*
