haha I love the way America is getting other countries to speak english..it's not even america's own language to begin with..theives! wink
I think France would like to rule the world, but it doesn't come close. Britain has alot of influence but it isn't controlling anything persay...see..in europe we don't try to rule the world.. wink

I don't think anyone can imagine Ireland ruling the world. We just want to rule our own country, instead of having the British butt in and try to do it for us. Then again, some Irish people love being part of Britain, and that conflict of opinion leads to all the trouble over here.

Yes Neit, I know Europe isn't a country, it's kinda like Asia. I just decided to use Europe as a whole since I'm not too up to date with pretty much all of the countries in Europe. sweatdrop

About the English thing, I find our version of English funny yet mean. It's funny because "American English" is basicly a bunch of different languages edited and mixed together, because a lot of our language comes from different origins. I find it mean because it's so freaking hard to learn! I mean we study the language from when we're an infant until we're going into our thirties, and most of us still don't understand it completly. gonk

hahaha.
words like weiner and frankfurter wink
I find American slang very weird...like if I say someone is "tight" in england that means they're not being fair...like hoarding money away for themselves and not spending even a little bit, that's being tight...but over there it means something completely different wink wink

xd Yup, in American slang terms "tight" means "kool". Like a tipical conversation with that word would be, "Man that shirt is tight!" "Thanks dude."
But I find it's mostly "gangstas" and "wangstas" that use tight in America. xd

I love Irish slang, it's hilarious. No-one but the Irish understand it and only the Irish can see the reasoning and logic behind it.
Especially "Here, jooky out that windy and tell us if yer man's out there."
Translated, that means "Hey, look out that window and tell me if that man's out there."

Other examples:

"Gurning" - means "crying"
"It's lashin'!"-means "It's raining really heavily!"
"C'mere and I'll bate the face o' ye!"-means "Come here and I'll beat you to a pulp!"

The last one is more Belfast slang than general Irish slang though.

It must seem funny to people who don't live in Belfast, but I speak like that all the time. Not with as strong an accent as some, but still.

"Mind the childer, I'm away to do the messages!"-"Babysit the kids, I'm going to get the shopping!"

You know, this could pretty much be in the language thread. We are discussing the difference in languages even if it's just slang. 3nodding xd
(This is mearly a statement, we don't need to move the coversation. It's fine where it is.)

I find U.S. gansta speak ridiculously funny, just because it makes no sense.

"Sup dawg, my fizzle hit the shizzle with a pizzle. You dizzle?" "??????"

hehe I find it ridiculously funny too, it's just stupid.
going back to the using the same words with different meanings thing...if I say to an American friend "I'm just going for tea, I'll be back soon"..I've had responses like "does it take that long to drink tea?" ...but I'm not referring to the drink, I'm referring to the evening meal xp
the way you call going for a ride "a drive"...like "I got a drive back off my friend"...I'd say "I got a lift back off my friend"....unfortunately drive makes more sense rolleyes xp

Well I probably wouldn't have thought you were going for dinner when you said going for tea. I would have just taken it literaly too and thought you were going for tea. sweatdrop

I've had the best idea!
We should record videos!
Mine would be "Kyle/Aquila's guide to street Irish slang!"
Although youtube won't accept my videos for some reason neutral

Aquila: Does youtube have something that only lets you upload videos if you're in england or America? I thought it was everywhere but now it says "youtube is now in the UK!" and I dunno what that's supposed to mean sweatdrop

@Kat: I really don't know-it just said that mine was too big or was the wrong format or something. I can upload the video to my bebo page though-I might do it, it'd be funny biggrin
