Shannon bit her lip to keep from screaming, a bit to hard obviously, as the taste of blood entered her mouth. She sighed and tried to relax for a small amount of time as the contraction passed.

Boone looked at Jack. "Is she starting to dilate?" he asked. Well he wasn't sure of what step started when, but he knew enough about pregnancy.

Jack sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
"Shannon, I know this is uncomfortable for you but I have to see how far you're dialated," Jack said monotonously.
Awkwardness like this was exactly why he had gone into orthopedic surgery rather than obstetrics. He looked up at her softly, waiting for the go ahead.

Shannon sighed in protest but she uncomfortably did what she suspected Jack wanted her to do. "Can you make it quick?" She asked quietly.

Jack lightly took Shannon's hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
"It'll only take a second," he replied.
Before Shannon even had time to think too much into things, Jack had finished examining her and moved back up to her side. He looked down at her and smiled comfortingly.
"You're progressing well, Shannon," he said reassuringly. "You're at 4 centimetres now. A few more hours should do it. Just keep breathing."

Boone sat beside Shannon. He stayed quiet and watched the two. He was stressed and he just hoped everything would be alright.

Locke came running up about this time, but stopped as he saw Shannon, Boone, and Jack. Shannon was going into labor. He took a deep breath, he hated to interrupt them, but this was important. "Jack! Sawyer needs your help, the Others attacked us."

Charlie ran into the caves and saw Claire and the baby. He sighed with relief as he saw that they were alright. "Claire . . ." He came over to her, looking her over. "I think we might be in trouble."

Shannon looked at Locke. "He can't go now, if you haven't noticed he has prior engagements. You can't go." She said as she looked at Jack, panic in her eyes.

Jack looked back and forth between the panicked Shannon and the equally panicked Locke. He sighed and looked down at Shannon.
"Shannon, I'm staying right here, I won't leave you. I promise," Jack said softly.
He looked up at Locke.
"Bring the others here if you can. If not, you're going to either have to wait or you'll have to do your best to patch them up before I can see them. Make sure to take care of the most seriously injured person first. Triage as best as you can," Jack instructed.
He put a hand on Shannon's shoulder, turning back to her and smiling reassuringly.
Kate looked around at the other injured members of their party. She was covered in various scrapes and bruises, as well as having an injured ankle and sore ribs from the fall that she had taken as she ran. She rested back against a tree as they waited for Locke to return with Jack.

Boone looked back and forth between them. "Bring the others here?! Are you insane!" he exclaimed. There was no way that he would put the baby or Shannon in danger.

Jack sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
"Not those others," he said wryly. "I meant the other survivors, whoever is injured. I'll have them rest in the clearning there so that Shannon has privacy but I can keep an eye on them, too."

Boone sighed, glad he had mis-understood. All of the stress wasn't making him think right. He ran a hand through his hair and sat down closer to SHannon.

Jack kept a close eye on Shannon as more contractions surged through her body. They were getting more intense and closer together. He put a hand on her shoulder and smiled.
"This is it Shannon," he said lightly. "It's almost time to push. You're going to have this baby."
