"You never know," Lin murmured, "I never had to buy anything with lens before."

She carefully put the box into her bag so it would stay safe before untying her horse.

"I know, they're common enough for those with eyesight problems."

Earendil followed Lin out into the street again. "Then I would suppose that they would know what they're doing here," he pointed out. "Would experience not mean that they would be very good at their job?"

Of course he wasn't aware of the delays that sometimes happened with technology, or when businesses depended on other businesses to supply them with things.

Lin looked thoughtful, "Not... really actually. I don't mean that Len's shop isn't good, but Len is a supplier really. What his true service is, is helping people figure out which type of lens and frames they need so they can see. Like what he did for Andarien, that is the main service he provides. He doesn't make the frames or lens, but he does assemble them for his clients."

Then again, a lot of places didn't make things from complete scratch. Not like say a carpenter or a jeweler, though she supposed even they were bounded by their suppliers for the raw materials.

"Though to be honest, when we went in I was worried that there would be a lot of people waiting to be fitted or for an appointment. Glasses are very common among the mortal population because eyesight is one of the sense to worsen as one gets older, and unlike the elves of Arda, not everyone is born with perfect eyesight even for their race. Like, you notice, grandfather Daemon, isn't old by human standards, but he wears glasses, and that's because he's nearsighted. He can't see very far, it becomes blurry to him after a certain distance. Actually he's worse than most apparently, he can't see without his glasses."

Earendil nodded. "Luk said his people had that, that some of them could not see very far without lenses to correct their vision. That's one of the reasons his people created the goggles in the first place - they just expanded on their uses later on."

He was quite familiar with the inferiorities of the human race when compared to the elves.

"Yea... so I was worried that it might be busy, which obviously isn't the case but still a worry before," Lin nodded as she mounted her horse again.

She looked both ways and thought about where the bookstore might be. There were several, but she thought one of the larger ones might be good.

"This way," she pointed out, "I know there's one down this street."

"I shall take your word for it," Earendil smiled, following after her. "I take it there are more than one bookshop in this city?"

That was very different from what he was used to - in Arda, he didn't know of any towns or cities that had more than one bookshop. Other shops sometimes had more than one, but usually not. Bookshops ... almost never.

Lin nodded, "Yes, there are larger bookshops that sell a variety of books, and then there are book shops that cater specifically to students, or books that are not translated, or other specific needs."

She also heard one could order online but that was a bit beyond Lin to be frank.

"We're just going to an all around general bookstore, but I heard it has a good hobby section, which I think is where they keep the puzzle books."

"Okay," Earendil nodded.

Really he had no other option but to take Lin's word for it. He didn't know anything about it, either way, so what else was there to say?

They arrived to a large building where the sign where huge 3D letters that were somehow connected to the store front wall. Once more, Lin dismounted and tied up her horse at the railings provided.

"Here it is," Lin motioned for Earendil to follow.

Earendil followed Lin into the shop and looked around to see how it would be different from the shop where they'd gotten Andarien a journal.

While some bookstores did have the occasional pen, pencil and writing journal, this shop was simply for books. Once they stepped in they were greeted by large tables in front of them full of the latest popular read. While off to the sides were rows and rows of selves full of books. Most were not hardcopies as they were heavy and an expensive luxury. Instead, most were paperbacks.

Lin made a beeline for the shelves, looking up at the signs posted above the shelves instead of the shelves themselves.

"Let's see... historic, general fiction, romance, reference, classic, dictionaries.... comics... ah! Hobby!"

Earendil couldn't read the headings on the shelves, but listening to Lin, and seeing so many books in one place, positively floored him. He hadn't even heard of many of the categories that Lin was listing.

Still, he didn't want to take more time than they were already going to take. They had a long way to go to get back to the manor after all.

"So this is where we will find puzzle books for Andarien?" he asked, looking at the multicoloured spines of the books and wondering what all of them were.

"Hmmm...." Lin stopped at a series of paper back books.

She picked out a book that had a grid on the front with a few numbers in Common Tongue. Lin flipped through it.

"This looks good, and he doesn't necessarily need to know the numbers to know how to do this one."

Earendil peered over Lin's shoulder, his keen sight preventing him from having to lean down to see the print clearly.

"What is it?" he asked, recognizing only the grid pattern and not the numbers written on it.

"It's called Sudoku, the idea is that you put numbers from 1 to 9 onto this grid. Horizontally and vertically each line will hold a number 1 to 9 and it won't have any repeats. So it's a logical and problem solving puzzle."

She flipped through it all, and it even had the larger mutli grids as well.

"I've seen versions that have used shapes instead."
