Lucas rushed into the hospital wing, still in red pajamas. He was panting for breath. A phoenix of all things had led him here, woken him up and led him here. The moment he opened the doors, the phoenix flew in and vanished with a flash of fire.

"F-fionna?" He panted, looking over at Fionna laying on a hospital wing bed.
"What happened? What's going on?" He turned to the headmistress who was weakly smiling and going to sit in her office. Apparently it was Fionna who called for him. He'd assumed it was the headmistress to talk to him about the upcoming full moon, but he was supposedly quite wrong. There were two other girls, Al and Rose by the looks of it, sleeping in two beds at the other side of the hospital wing.
"What's going on?" He repeated, sitting down next to her.

Fionna gave the Headmistress a smile smile and said, "Thank you." before watching her walk away. Fionna saw Lucas rushing in and he was panting. He had probably run all the way down here. "Hey Lucas." She said and a small smile played on her lips. What had happened? She knew she wasn't allowed to tell, but she really wanted to.

Fionna decided that the only thing to do would be to ignore the question or lie. He was hiding things from her, so why shouldn't she? "Nothing big. Just a small accident, but..." She started trying to find the correct sequence of words. "something has been bugging me and I wanted to ask you. I'm sorry about waking you, but I just couldn't wait really." She told him. Hopefully he wouldn't be mad at her for waking him up. Though if one or a few of her dreams were true then he probably was. She told herself to forget about those. Her imagination was just going wild, but something was definitely up.

His mind ran wild. A small accident? Well, if she didn't want to talk about it fine. But...what? What could she possibly want to ask that was this important?
"Uh, sure!" He said, confused, bewildered and tired.
"What's on your mind?" He asked, genuinely concerned.
If she weren't in the hospital wing, he might've been miffed that she woke him up for a question. But still, he was curious. Was he off the Quidditch team? Did she like him? No, that was absurd. He needed to stop thinking like that.
Possibly she wanted to ask him about her birthday? He really had no idea what was going on, his heart was beating a bit faster than usual, not just because he'd run all the way down here. Well, if he had no clue the only alternative was to listen and find out, so he was silent as Fionna addressed the issue, in the back of his mind still wondering why she was here in the first place.

Fionna was silent for a moment trying to find the best way to say this, but the truth was that there was no best way to ask this. She decided that the best thing to do would be to dive right in and take the consequences. Fionna took a deep breathe. "I keep getting the feeling that you're hiding something. It's only intensified recently." She started. Fionna wasn't sure if she wanted to mention Rhi or not. Would it be a bad idea to? Probably.

Where was she going with this. Fionna was unsure of herself now, but she already dug the hole. Time to plant the seed. "You have a secret. A big secret by the looks of things." She looked into Lucas' eyes now as she spoke. "We all have a right to keep secrets, but my imagination is going wild. I just need some assurance right now." She told him. Fionna's eyes were quivering slightly and were sparkling as her tear ducts started to act up. She wasn't asking him to tell her. Only to assure her of good intentions.

"I promise no matter what, nothing will change what I think about you." She added. She wanted to know. Her curiosity was too great to not be so, but she would never force it out of him. She decided not to continue ranting and she shut up to allow him to say something.

Oh god. His heart must've been racing miles a minute, he felt faint and weak. It was a good thing he was sitting down. He couldn't tell her. He just couldn't. Crap, say something. Say something. ANYTHING. She wants comfort, dangitt, isn't that what guys who likes girls are supposed to do? Why did he never know what to do? Because he was trapped so long. Because he was a werewolf. Nothing would change how she thought of him? Yeah right. As much as he wanted to believe it was true, he'd heard it too often to believe it. It was a good thing it was dark, she might not notice beads of sweat running down the side of his face and that he was shaking slightly.

"Fionna...why would you say that?"
Not good enough. Not good enough. He couldn't stay on the defensive, he had to do something, something to get her mind off of him, anything but him and his secret. Only Rhi and the faculty knew, no one else could.
"Look. You ask me to come down here this early in the morning, but I don't ask why. Please tell me what's happening. If I'm keeping something, so are you. What's happened and who would make you think that? " He didn't meet her eyes, he couldn't bear to. He felt horrible for being so demanding, asking her her secret first. Still, whatever she was hiding couldn't possibly be as bad as what happened to him all those years ago...could it? Regardless, he wanted to know. Before his heart exploded from pounding so fast.

Fionna waited for a response hoping she hadn't gone overboard. She just wanted to know if she should be concerned or worried about him or anything going on. Fionna was taken aback slightly by the change of tone and direction that the conversation suddenly took. He wanted to know? She wouldn't have much trouble telling him, but the Headmistress had said to keep it quiet. She couldn't just disobey the headmistress. Maybe a half truth would suffice?

She decided that it would have to do. She needed Lucas to trust her and if that involved telling him some of what happened that perhaps he would in turn tell her something of his own secret. She sighed and calmly and bluntly said, "Rhiannon and myself got into a fight." She looked down and pulled her knees up into her chest and shivered slightly. She hoped that would do. She wished she could just burst out and tell him everything. She had kept it bottled up really. She needed her sketchbook. It always made things better.

"WhAt!?" Lucas stood up, enraged. He was more pissed off that Rhiannon wasn't in the hospital wing as well. It angered him knowing that Rhiannon had probably used dark arts to win and he stomped into the nurse's office without a word. The headmistress was in there and he sat down and said without preamble;
"That Rhi girl needs to be expelled." He whispered. "Seriously, Headmistress, she corned me the other day, she could tell what I am, she's dueled Fionna now and well..."
He lowered his voice.
"Since according to her we're the same, she told me things about herself, too. She told me she's killed a unicorn before, so I'm assuming she drank it's blood. You need to get rid of her! She's evil, I swear it, there's something wrong with that girl!"

Headmistress Lillian Van Nikolai

Lillian's eyes widened a bit. So he knew as well? She was hoping to keep as few people out of this as possible. Just the people Rhi had attacked so they knew she was getting punished, and her daughter.
"I know, Lucas." She sighed. "She's already gone. She went to Azkaban for what she did and she won't be back for at least a month. She used the torture curse on Fionna and she's gone. But please.." She whispered.
"Please don't spend your energy hating her. I know she's getting what she deserves, but trust me when I say she's a poor, lost soul. And you need to be careful. If she knew your a werewolf, that explains a lot. You aren't the beast she is, but she definitly thinks your closer to her level than normal humans. Fionna must know something because she was asking for you...I don't doubt that you told Fionna she cornered you, correct?"
Lucas nodded.
"Again, explains a lot. Fionna must have dueled with Rhiannon on your behalf, she must have told Fionna something."
((Devon's letting me say this for him))
"She wants me to know what I'm keeping from her Professor." Lucas said.
"Then Rhi told Fionna your keeping secrets, that's all that makes sense." Lillian sighed and leaned back in her chair.
"Just be careful, Lucas, I know you're not the best liar, and neither am I." She smiled. "But we'll manage."

((I know this seems like god-modding, Lillian figuring out so much, but Lillian needs to be in the loop knowing everyone's story so she can lie on Lucas's behalf. Sorry I know it seems too good that she knows so much, but it does piece together pretty well))

Lucas walked out feeling much more tired than when he ran all the way here.
"Alright. I will Headmistress, thank you."
He bowed and left. When he entered the hospital wing he sat down next to Fionna again.
"Well...I was keeping one thing from you but apparently you already know it now." He said.
"I knew before you did that...well...Rhiannon had killed a unicorn." He looked up at her. "She told me before that...ugh, kiss. But Professor Nikolai told me what happened since I already knew about the unicorn stuff anyways." He looked around the hospital wing room, guilt sinking in a bit.
"So we're the only ones that know, huh? I guess everyone else'll just think she quit or something. I mean, serves her right for Azkaban and I hope you feel better soon. Still, it's just weird thinking of a teenager facing those dementors, huh? Most people die in there, but she doesn't even get that much."
He sighed and leaned back in the chair. He didn't know what to say or think. He hoped she'd buy his lie about that being his only secret. Still, he was a terrible liar as the Headmistress knew. Fi was smart enough to know that there was more to it than that. Could he really hide the truth from her forever?

Fionna watched as Lucas stood up and marched into the Headmistress' office in the room. She blinked at him wondering what he rushed off to tell the Headmistress. She waited and wondered until she finally saw Lucas reappear and sit down next to her.

Fionna's face was questioning and she listened to him. Rhi had told Lucas so willingly? She was a little skeptical, but let it slide for the time being. Fionna was glad that Lucas now knew though. She figured the headmistress had probably told him more details about the duel. Fionna tried to convince herself that that was what Lucas had been hiding, but she couldn't help but think that there had been something before that. Something that had to do with him and not RHi. Her mind let it go though and she focused on the here and now.

She nodded before saying, "Only those of us in this room know." It was kind of lonely thinking that. Out of the hundreds of students here. It was probably a good thing though, that wouldn't be something that should be spread around the school and hopefully this way it can be contained. "It is weird..." She said trailing off. Tears started forming in her eyes as she again thought that it was her fault that Rhi was in that dreadful place. She had told on her and she had caused her to use an unforgivable curse. That thought kept returning to her.

Lucas knew she was probably fragile, but he hugged Fionna gently anyways. He was thrilled she'd accepted the answer, that he could use Rhi as his secret. He felt a bit bad though, knowing she was in Azkaban.
"It's not your fault." He said, holding her close so her head rested on his shoulder. His own heart was still pounding just at her very touch and he wanted to cry himself. He'd lied to her, and it was the last thing he'd wanted to do.
"She deserved it, she needed to face the punishment. Maybe it'll do her some good."
If she wouldn't die, then thank goodness. As much as he didn't like her, he didn't want to see her dead. And even the Headmistress said she was just a lost soul. He supposed Rhi showed it when she was getting dragged off.
After a few moments he let go of Fionna, gently letting her sink into the cushions. He held onto one of her hands though, but he hated the feeling. He was holding her hand. He was actually daring to hold her hand with his monster paw after he'd just lied to her. It was a disgusting feeling, but a great one at the same time.

Fionna couldn't hold back the tears. They silently streamed down her face as she sank into Lucas' hug. She shook her head at his statement. "I caused her to step over the line. I tattled on her. Even if she is a terrible person..." She said remembering the last moment before she was taken by the dementors when she cried. She wasn't all bad was she? "She doesn't deserve azkaban. She's a teenager just like us." Fionna finished letting her voice drop off at the end.

Tears still plastered Fionna's cheeks as Lucas pulled away. She wiped at them with the sleeve on her arm that Lucas wasn't holding. She enjoyed the comfort of his hand. It was stable. She needed something like that right now. Fionna figured it might take her a while to recover from the shock of having the curse used on her. Especially the nightmares and jumpyness.

Fionna sighed again. She couldn't help but realize how nice it was to have Lucas comforting her. It seemed her mind had chosen to forgive him a lot more than she realized and she was started to get back the feelings she had before the fight.

"Maybe it will be good for her..." Fionna said reanalyzing everything. Perhaps she needed time to reflect her ways, but that might be just hopeful thinking. Rhi couldn't die in azkaban, but that didn't mean she couldn't suffer.

Now it was Lucas's turn to shake his head.
"Anyone who uses that curse on someone innocent like you deserves that place. She might be a teenager, but she was still wrong. I don't like the idea of her there at all, no matter how much I dislike her. But I rather see her in pain than you, when she's earned it. I doubt it'll change her whole outlook on life, but it might teach her not to push the boundaries."
He just hated seeing Fionna in pain more than anything else. Anyone who could cause Fionna this much hurt was terrible. Even if she was a teenager, she hadn't acted like it, so she shouldn't be treated like one. She stole his first kiss, cornered him, attacked Fionna...yep. She was terrible, all right. Guys just tended not to be as sympathetic and teary, he supposed.

He sighed. He was grateful Fionna wasn't crying so badly now, watching her cry was heartbreaking. Not knowing what he was asking, since he wasn't there, he asked;
"How did she take it? When she got taken away, I mean."

If he'd known about the pearls, he obviously wouldn't have asked.

Fionna nodded ever so slowly. Lucas was probably right. She needed to stop blaming herself. She had just been sticking up for a friend. Rhi was the one that resorted to dark magic and unforgivable curses. She tried to think that it wasn't, but a small part of her just couldn't let it go. "I suppose you're right." She told Lucas.

Tears welled up in her eyes again, but she wiped them before they could spill out. She remembered very clearly the last few moment with the pearls. It had been terrible to watch. She hadn't been prepared to see that. Fionna wasn't sure if Headmistress would mind her telling about that. She had told him everything else, so why should it matter?

Fionna started slowly saying, "Well, she was taking it well at first. She looked like she was going to fight them off or something. Standing tall and confident as the guards came in." Fionna paused and shuddered remembering the sight of the dementors with their shadowy hoods and eerie hands. "As she was going though, things turned worse." She took a breathe before continuing and watched it replay an imagine in her head. "A dementor caught on her necklace and she started freaking out. The dementor kept moving though and putting strain on the string. She eventually started crying and the string burst. It was so terrible to watch and the doors slammed leaving the necklace behind..." Fionna trailed off and the tears reappeared in her eyes. She needed to stop crying. She hated crying. It made her feel too vulnerable.

Lucas listened and remembered the necklace of pearls she wore.
"Oh." He said quietly.
She'd cried? Really cried? He wouldn't have believed it if anyone else had said it. She looked down at their hands for a moment, avoiding looking into Fionna's teary face. Her tears were the worst of it all. Well, it was safe to say that he shouldn't have asked that question. Still it amazed him..cried? He vaguely wondered where the necklace was now but could safely assume that if it had been that important to her, the Headmistress had taken care of everything. Well...he was glad he didn't have to witness it. It sounded gruesome, and he hated those Azkaban gaurds from all the awful things he'd heard about them.

He found he didn't have any more questions to ask, or maybe he ust didn't want to know any more answers. He stayed seated by her side, holding onto her hand doing his best to keep his own hand steady. It still nagged at the back of his brain that he lied to her, but he pushed it out for now. He had no choice. Especially after all this, it would be too confusing for Fionna to know. Besides, he always had the Headmistress to go to, who knew everything that had happened. She alone had put together all the pieces, knew what every person involved in the whole ordeal had been through. Which was good...at least he had someone to talk to now because all of them might very well need therapy once this was all said and done.

When he could still see a small tear glistening on Fionna's cheek, he leaned in a bit and wiped it off gently with his own pajama sleeve. He smiled, looking at her shining, wet eyes, she was still so beautiful even when she was so sad.
