tis a musical, essential plot:
Pre-WW1, Con-man travels around selling music instruments and promises to create a boys band. Goes to one small town where he discovers the librarian (also the local music teacher) is on to him. In the process of distracting her from his con he falls for her and she for him. Unfortunately another con-man shows up and reveals that he really does now a thing about music and therefor cannot possible create a boys band. The day is saved though when the boys come marching in their uniforms and playing their hearts out, since they have been practicing in secret to impress their parents and the con-man.

the music man is originally a play but there is an old movie edition, 60s? 50s?

i don't know about that most libraries have a copy (it was a very popular musical) and if you use an online video rental site they should have several copies.

how can you survive without a library? I can't fathom such an existence. Do you not realize they have anime and manga and will let you borrow it for free?
